.
The Hanxu continent was divided into four main territories.
Among them, the vast Frozen Prison Land occupied nearly two fifths of the entire landmass.
The remaining three fifths were split between three ruling empires:
The Qinglan Empire, whose population was mainly composed of the elven race,
The Shouyuan Empire, inhabited by the beastmen,
and the Tianguo Empire, populated mostly by humans.
For countless years, these powers had been locked in endless wars,
conflicts driven by racial differences, territorial disputes, and a long history of hatred and prejudice.
Eventually, after generations of bloodshed, an uneasy peace was reached.
This fragile peace brought about significant changes to the continent.
Agreements were made between the three nations, covering everything from trade and mutual assistance treaties to military alliances against common threats.
But perhaps the most important, and controversial, change was the abolition of slavery.
For centuries, due to racial prejudice, it had been normal practice to treat citizens of other empires as lesser beings.
It took very little for someone to be captured and enslaved, simply for belonging to another race or nation.
The abolition of slavery was a turning point, an agreement born not from mercy, but necessity, to keep the continent from descending into a total war once again.
However, slavery wasn’t completely eradicated.
Those who committed severe crimes, or certain enemies of the state, could still be enslaved as punishment.
Moreover, illegal slave markets thrived in black market, where illegality and cruelty continued to be part of everyday business.
Even with the strict laws enforced by all three empires, some basic problems couldn’t be completely eradicated.
And the place where Zhu Rong was currently standing was exactly one of those.
A slave market.
Zhu Rong, in his past life, had many opportunities to come into contact with places like this, since they made it easier for him to obtain some rare and often illegal resources.
At that time, he wasn’t yet a famous blacksmith, and often found himself in such places to get rare minerals or special items,
which if obtained legally would have cost him much more.
There were many other similar places throughout the city he could go to, but he chose this one in particular,
because from what he remembered, the person he was looking for should be here.
"It’s been a long time," he murmured with a strange emotion as he looked at a female figure crouched in a corner of the cell.
She was a girl, a bit shorter than him in height, with long black hair, two pairs of emerald green eyes that seemed to look at him with a mix of terror and sadness, and a pair of slightly long and pointed ears.
She was a slave of the elven race.
"Oh, I see you’ve noticed one of our newest products," said the merchant, who didn’t miss a single movement of his customer.
Seeing that he seemed curious about his slave, he continued.
"This is one of many who arrived this month, and although she’s just a mortal slave, as you can see, she has her own charm," he said,
pointing to other nearby cages and talking about how the other high-ranking slaves were special,
but Zhu Rong didn’t seem interested,
his attention remained fixed on the fragile figure of the slave in front of him.
"How much for this one?" he said, interrupting the merchant’s explanation.
"Oh, it seems you have good taste," said the merchant with a peculiar expression,
"10 gold coins.
This one is the cheapest we have, well, for obvious reasons,
but if you want, I have higher quality products here," he said, gesturing toward the other cages he had been showing before.
Zhu Rong nodded as he said,
"I’ll take her," while pulling out ten coins and giving them to the merchant without worrying too much.
Unlike before, when even one gold coin was very important to him, now he had more money.
After he returned from the exam, he took the beast cores he needed for his mission, and sold all the others of the first stage on the market.
It should be known that even a beast core of the lowest stage could be sold for tens of gold coins or more,
and the higher the stage, the higher the price.
A beast core from a first stage beast at its peak could already cost more than a low grade spirit stone, and since he had many,
these were easy money.
He had collected numerous first stage cores and some second stages, but he kept the higher level ones for his cultivation
while selling the lower level ones as they weren’t useful to him.
He could have handed them to the academy for extra credits, but for cores of this level, the credits given wouldn’t have been many,
so he thought of selling them directly in the city market where at least he could finally get a bit of wealth. freewebnøvel.coɱ
Sure, compared to his past self these were peanuts, but for the him of now they were a lot of money, enough to start some of his initial projects.
The merchant, although unsure why he wanted to take his cheapest slave, decided not to ask questions.
The reason the price was so low was not only because the Elf girl had no cultivation, making her basically a mere mortal,
but also because she was of mixed blood.
It should be known that there are two kinds of elves,
the forest elves, the predominant kind,
and the dark elves, a similar race but differing in skin color and their low affinity with nature.
This had caused several internal conflicts within the race, and needless to say, offspring between the two races were considered a stain by both sides.
Zhu Rong knew this but didn’t care, and this was because he knew this elf very well.
After all, she had been his first disciple in his past life.
The most exceptional of them all, and the one who stayed by his side for the longest time in his past life.
