Life In The Limelight : I Married A Gamer Girl-Chapter 43: Roleplay
Chapter 43 - Roleplay
The evening was warm, with the faint sound of cicadas drifting in through the slightly cracked window of their home office. Kazuma and Masako were working diligently on the Exaslia DLC, refining every detail to ensure the new romance options felt authentic and engaging. This particular night, they were focusing on testing the branching dialogue for one of the new romanceable characters, a charming and flirtatious rogue named Aria.
Kazuma, seated at his desk, was deeply immersed in tweaking the dialogue options, his light blue eyes scanning the lines of text on his screen. "Alright," he muttered, mostly to himself. "I think I've got the timing of this scene worked out. Let's test how it flows."

Masako, who had been sketching costume designs for the rogue character, set her pencil down and looked up, her golden eyes twinkling with mischief. "Dear," she said sweetly, pushing her chair back and standing up. "Why don't we make this a little more fun?"
Kazuma glanced over at her, raising an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
Masako grinned, walking over to him and plucking the script from his desk. "Let's roleplay the scene. I'll be Aria, and you can be the player character. That way, we can see how the dialogue feels when it's spoken aloud."
Kazuma hesitated, his light blue eyes narrowing slightly. "I don't know... Are you sure that's necessary?"
"Oh, it's absolutely necessary," Masako replied, her grin widening. "We need to make sure this feels natural, right? Besides, it'll be fun!"
Before Kazuma could protest further, Masako pulled up a chair across from him, flipping through the script. She cleared her throat dramatically, her golden eyes gleaming as she slipped into character.
"Well, well," she began, her voice dropping into a sultry tone. "Look who's stumbled into my lair. Didn't anyone warn you that getting too close to me could be dangerous?"
Kazuma blinked, momentarily caught off guard by how seamlessly she embodied the character. "Uh... I'm just passing through," he said awkwardly, trying to keep up.
Masako leaned forward, resting her chin on her hand and giving him a playful smirk. "Passing through? Oh no, darling, you don't get to just pass through. Not without paying the toll." She paused, letting her eyes glint with mock mischief. "And lucky for you, I only accept one kind of payment—your time and attention."
Kazuma's cheeks flushed slightly as he glanced at the script. "This... doesn't feel exactly like the lines I wrote."
Masako laughed, breaking character for a moment. "I'm improvising, dear. It's called bringing the character to life!" She straightened up, flipping to the next page. "Now, stay in character. Let's continue."
Kazuma sighed, shaking his head but unable to hide his smile. "Alright, fine. What's the next scene?"
Masako's expression softened, her tone shifting into something more tender. "Aria sits down beside the player, her teasing demeanor giving way to something more genuine. She looks at them with curiosity, as though trying to figure out what makes them different from everyone else."
She reached out, gently placing her hand over Kazuma's. "'You're not like the others,'" she said softly, her golden eyes locking with his. "'Most people come here looking for something to take, but you... you seem like you're looking for something to give.'"
Kazuma stared at her, momentarily at a loss for words. The way she delivered the line was so heartfelt, so real, that he almost forgot it was a roleplay. "Uh... I—"
Masako grinned, her teasing nature resurfacing as she leaned in closer. "What's the matter, dear? Is the brave adventurer lost for words?" She tilted her head, her tone turning playfully lewd. "Or are you just distracted by my... overwhelming presence?"
Kazuma groaned, his face turning pink. "Masako, you're taking this too far."
She laughed, sitting back and crossing her arms. "Oh, come on, dear. I'm just getting into character! Isn't that what you wanted?"
"I wanted to test the dialogue," Kazuma said, rubbing his temples. "Not... whatever this is."
Masako smirked, reaching over to flick his forehead lightly. "Relax, dear. You have to admit, this is more fun than just reading lines off a screen."
Kazuma sighed but couldn't hide the faint smile creeping onto his face. "Fine. Let's keep going."
For the next hour, Masako threw herself completely into the role of Aria, effortlessly blending her teasing, flirtatious nature with moments of genuine affection and vulnerability. She played every scene with a level of dedication that left Kazuma both impressed and flustered. At one point, she even stood up and dramatically reenacted a scene where Aria confesses her feelings, spinning around with an exaggerated flourish before collapsing onto the couch in mock despair.
By the time they wrapped up, Kazuma was laughing despite himself. "Alright, I'll admit it," he said, his light blue eyes twinkling. "That was a lot more fun than I expected."
Masako beamed, her golden eyes glowing with satisfaction. "See? I told you! And we managed to test the dialogue at the same time. Win-win."
Kazuma leaned back in his chair, shaking his head. "You're something else, Masako."
"And you wouldn't have me any other way," she replied with a playful wink.
As they tidied up the office, Kazuma couldn't help but feel grateful for moments like these. No matter how stressful game development could be, Masako always found a way to make it enjoyable. Her energy, creativity, and unwavering support were what made them such an unstoppable team—and he wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
