Chapter 220: Chapter 220: I choose you Emily and then Emily Unleashed

Astrid circled Jax slowly, studying him like some kind of rare specimen that needed to be dissected and analyzed.

"This is suspicious. Very suspicious." She narrowed her eyes dramatically. "Are you sick? Dying? Having some kind of emotional breakdown?"

Jax sighed heavily. "I comfort one student and suddenly I’m dying."

"It’s unprecedented!" Astrid threw her hands up in exaggerated disbelief. "The Professor Jax I know would have made fun of her for looking sad. Called her pathetic. Maybe compared her to a wet cat or something equally insulting."

"Wet cat?"

"You know what I mean!"

Seris actually smiled at that exchange. Small but genuine. The first real expression she had shown all evening.

Jax felt warmth spreading through his chest. He was happy, as if he had won some small victory by making her smile.

But then his eyes caught movement in the distance. A little girl running toward him with a jolly face beaming with excitement.

A vicious grin spread across Jax’s features. He looked at Astrid, and she immediately stiffened.

Something about that grin made her shiver. She knew instinctively that something terrible was about to happen. Something directed at her.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Her voice came out broken with concern.

"Nothing." Jax’s smile remained pleasant. "Just admiring the beauty ahead of me."

"Your face says otherwise!"

Jax ignored her completely. He bent down with his arms spreading wide, ready to catch Emily as she approached at full speed.

And as Emily reached him, she kicked his shin with surprising force.

"I am not a child, so don’t treat me like one."

Witnessing the unexpected assault, Astrid burst out laughing uncontrollably. Seris joined her too, though she covered her mouth politely to muffle the sound.

Jax turned to Astrid. She expected some cursing, some expression of annoyance or anger. But his smile never faded. Not even a little.

And that’s when she realized this was far worse than him cursing.

’He is definitely plotting something.’

Jax turned back to Emily with that same pleasant expression. "Where have you been, little one?"

"Mother locked me in a room." Emily crossed her arms with a pout. "And I don’t even know the reason."

Jax understood immediately. He was the cause of that imprisonment. Lysandra must have sent her away to avoid hearing those unholy sounds that had been broadcast throughout the ballroom.

"I see. That must have been boring."

"It was."

"Well, I’m glad you’re out now." He patted her head gently.

Emily felt uncomfortable at the gesture, yet there was also an unexpected warmth in it that she couldn’t deny.

Then Jax’s eyes slid toward Astrid. His smile turned predatory.

"Oh, Emily. Do you see this girl here?"

Astrid’s remaining smile faded instantly. She gulped audibly.

"She was mocking me just now. Abusing me. Saying terrible things about your big brother."

Emily’s gaze shifted to Astrid. Cold. Calculating. Those eyes promised revenge.

Jax simply added fuel to the fire. "And you know me. I don’t abuse girls. It’s against my principles."

Astrid’s defenses activated immediately. "First of all, I never abused this piece of—"

She caught herself and coughed awkwardly.

"And secondly, don’t abuse? Seris, look at this hypocrite! This is the same man who—"

But her words died in her throat as she saw Emily approaching. Like a final boss in a dungeon. Slowly. Dangerously. Each step deliberate and menacing.

"Look, kid." Astrid raised her hands defensively. "Whatever he told you is mostly lies. And I was just joking around. No need to—"

"You look like a failed experiment."

Astrid blinked in confusion. "Excuse me?"

Emily’s expression remained perfectly flat. "Your face looks like someone drew it while having a seizure. Then erased it. Then drew it again while drunk."

Silence crashed over the group.

Seris’s jaw dropped open.

Astrid stood completely frozen.

Emily continued without pause. "Your hair color is ugly. It looks like someone vomited grapes onto your head and you decided to keep it as a fashion statement."

All eyes went to Astrid’s purple hair.

"I— What—"

"I bet even mirrors crack when you stand in front of them." Emily tilted her head innocently. "Not because of bad luck. Because they refuse to reflect something so disappointing."

Astrid’s face turned crimson with rage. "Now listen here, you little—"

But Emily didn’t let her finish. "Your parents must cry every night wondering which ancestor they offended to deserve you. Probably all of them."

Seris had completely lost it now. She was bent over, shoulders shaking violently with barely suppressed laughter. Tears were forming in her eyes.

Emily tilted her head to the other side. "Also, the way you talk makes me want to shove cotton in my ears and never remove it. Your voice sounds like someone is strangling a goose while simultaneously stepping on a cat’s tail."

"I have a beautiful voice!"

"You have delusions." Emily’s expression remained absolutely flat. "But I understand. Delusions are probably the only way you survive looking at yourself every morning."

Astrid whirled toward Jax with desperation written across her face. "Control your gremlin!"

"She’s not mine to control." Jax shrugged with perfect innocence. "She’s an independent thinker."

Emily wasn’t finished. "In conclusion, if disappointment was a person, it would look at you and feel better about itself. You’re not even good at being bad."

Having delivered her final blow, Emily turned around like she owned the entire moment. Which honestly, she absolutely did. She raised her hand toward Jax, and he reached down to take it.

When their hands locked together, Jax smiled proudly. "Good work."

"She deserved worse, but I’m tired right now." Emily sighed dramatically. "Can we leave? Also, my mystic eyes will soon reach their limit. They can only look at shit for a limited time."

Astrid stood there, utterly defeated and petrified, knowing exactly where that statement was directed. "I— You— She—"

But it was already too late. Jax and Emily were walking away like a proud father and daughter who had just conquered an entire kingdom together.

[An hour later]

Jax’s carriage pulled up outside his mansion.

He had genuinely enjoyed his time at the ball with Emily. They had shared stories, exchanged observations about the nobles, and laughed at the chaos they had witnessed.

Jax had even given her additional knowledge on how to mentally break a person more efficiently. The two of them were craving more chaos, but both had shown restraint.

Jax knew he had hit his limit for today, and Emily understood that her mother was not in a good mood.

Now Jax walked toward his mansion entrance. Behind him, Elira descended from the carriage steps, holding her dress carefully as she trailed after him in silence.

She followed him into the main hall. There, Jax spotted Rudiger cleaning the table beside the sofa. The servant’s eyes glistened with relief when he saw his master.

"Master, please help me out."

At the mention of Jax, Roxana’s head popped up from behind the sofa like a cartoon character. She had apparently been lying there the entire time.

Her eyes found Elira standing behind Jax, and her expression twisted with confusion. Before she could ask anything, Jax spoke first.

"So this is where you’ve been. Abandoning your role at the ball and stuffing yourself with alcohol." He waved dismissively. "But I don’t care anymore. You can either die from drinking or from your stupidity. Just make sure that for tonight, you don’t disturb me."

"But what are you planning to do?"

Jax ignored the question entirely. "I will be using the master bedroom with my guest tonight. Make sure you don’t create chaos like the previous time."

Roxana struggled to her feet despite her drunken state. "Professor, please. I request you to reconsider. You can’t do something like—"

Jax kicked the side table hard. It slid across the floor and slammed into Roxana’s feet, making her stumble and lean against it for support.

Then she looked up and met his eyes.

Those angry, dangerous eyes.

She understood immediately that stopping him was impossible. If she tried, she would definitely be cooked.

Jax grabbed Elira’s hand. The vampire princess looked genuinely scared now, all her earlier composure stripped away. He began walking toward the stairs.

"Go to sleep, Roxana. I don’t want you to ruin my night."

He paused at the first step.

"Or else I will make sure this becomes your last night."

Upon reaching the master bedroom, Jax sat down in a chair facing the bed. He gestured toward the mattress.

"Sit."

Elira walked over and lowered herself onto the edge of the bed. Her hands gripped the sheets tightly.

Jax studied her for a moment, then spoke without any warmth in his voice.

"You know why you’re here. So let’s not waste time. Strip yourself and spread your legs for me."

Elira’s hands trembled slightly. "Professor, I—"

"You offered your body as payment." His eyes were cold as ice. "I accepted. This is a transaction. So proceed."

She swallowed hard.

Then her hands moved.

First to her feet, removing her elegant heels one by one. Then her stockings, rolling them down her pale legs slowly. Then her long gloves, peeling them from her arms.

Meanwhile, Jax simply watched.

But his gaze held no lust. His eyes never wandered across her exposing skin. Never traced the curves being revealed to him.

Instead, his eyes remained fixed on hers.

Watching. Waiting.

As if he was expecting something entirely different from what she was offering.
