Chapter 56: No One Believes

The morning sun sent a pale light over the sprawling trees.

The frogs were croaking, the wild hares began stepping out of their boroughs, and the lizards on the forest floors began competing in hip-hop battles as they bobbed their heads in all directions.

Mother nature seemed to be in one hell of a fine mood today. And as usual, only humans could truly disrupt her blissfulness.

VRMMMMM~

Groups of reporters stormed through the roads, determined to get the biggest scoop or hoax, depending on how one saw it.

Ah yes~... Nature sure was beautiful. However, she could be even more beautifully enjoyed if the roads were smoother.

"Dammit, my back is killing me."

"Your back? What about my butt? What sort of dungeon are we heading to?"

"Hmph! Technology of the future, my ass!"

"Yeah. That Boss Gort is really bold to say his creation is one that cannot be out-bested by anyone else but himself for the next hundreds of years."

"How ignorant... The young still have a lot to turn before entering adulthood."

Again, just look at their surroundings. It looked like they were heading into one evil location to get sacrificed over a cauldron with booking fluids. If you want their opinions, this whole thing is definitely a hoax, a sham to get people’s attention.

One in a billion year genius, or genius who yearns for attention. Already, they could see it now, the headlines for their next papers, TV sessions, Vlogs, blogs, and so on.

As they say: first impressions matter.

—And yes, they were blaming him for building his company and his base in such a terrible location.

"This guy is arrogant."

"Yes, but the question is... does he have the means to back it up?"

Among them was Lex Gater, a seasoned journalist known for his skepticism and sharp wit. He was assigned to cover what promised to be an extraordinary press conference—a product reveal that claimed to revolutionize today’s era.

What a load of crap!

The country has a bunch of seasoned researchers and top brainy people. Yet, it’s you, a little boy, who will be the one to change humanity, bringing them into a new era?

Just who the hell do you think you are to make such claims?

As Lex adjusted his camera bag and checked his notes, his colleague, Lana, leaned closer with a bemused expression.

"The King, what do you think?... Do you believe it?"

Lex was known as The King by his team.

Believe? Lex lightly tapped a finger on his crossed thigh. "Not really... If I have to say, it’s probably all tactics."

As people swimming in deep waters and news reporting, haven’t they seen such headlines and claims made before, only to show up as advertising strategies?

"I’ll believe it when pigs learn how to hold guns and shoot rabbits." Lex shrugged. "I’ve seen such plots used several times in the past. Talk a big talk, and get as much in the media hovering around you. Then, you apologize for failing to do what was promised, before bringing out one rubbish technology for the world to accept."

It was a classic move... One that worked, he might add.

It was like promising you a batch of flying cars, only to say in the end that you’ve made a certain breakthrough that promises flying cars in the next 100 years or so.

Lex wasn’t looking forward to this Conference one bit. Because after listening to GF WorldTech’s claims, he understood their purpose and didn’t want to come.

Sadly the Company’s CEO told him he must go, giving him no choice on the matter.

Lex has gotten quite a big reputation and fan-following that he can now turn down what news to cover.

Thanks to him the Company has grown exponentially in sales and publicity. So he had leeway on matters in the company. But surprisingly, this one wasn’t up for rejection.

The ’man above’ had personally sent word down and Lex had no just but to take it.

Hmph!

Do you know what else he could have been doing rather than wasting his time on this?

Lex relaxed into his seat, swearing to expose the fraudsters in the way he usually did. He swore that by the time he is done with Gort, he would wish he had never been born in the same period as him, The King of Face Slapping.

Piled in vans, the reporters’ chatters filled with skepticism and sarcasm. Their backs were aching, their muscles crackling and their bodies threatening to break.

"This is ridiculous! I can’t imagine cutting-edge technology coming from a place where they can’t even fix their roads."

"Their trick is all just smoke and mirrors—a flashy presentation to get some attention."

"It wouldn’t be the first time in our careers, right? Remember that so-called ’hoverboard’ fiasco last year?"

The van continued its bumpy journey, the conversation peppered with talks of past tech failures and exaggerated promises.

After what seemed like an eternity, they finally reached Geldhan Village.

...

2:09 PM.

Dammit.

The terrible path kept them on the roads for far longer than anticipated. Their original intention was to arrive far earlier than now and set up in a space closer to the action.

2:09 PM. The Press conference starts at 3 PM.

Although they were taken aback by the security around the village, they felt that it must be Going Gort trying to show off because of their presence.

Are you trying to say that this place is always guarded like this and not because of their coming?

[Villagers]: Yes.

[Reporters and Guests]: Why don’t I believe it?

After showing their permits, everyone drove to the Company’s main Atrium, a massive center hall with a grand futuristic design.

"Ah, hello, hello, Editor-in-chief Lutang, it’s me, Victor Hance from the GNC news station."

"Mr Hulkren, hello, it’s Kate Belton. We attended the Basktonia Conference together..." freёnovelkiss.com

Several people from all walks of life were here. And the reporters and camera crews immediately went to work, capturing everything LIVE!

Today, they must unveil Gort’s true mask to the world... Today, they show him to be the fraudster they always knew he was.
