Let's Squander A Billion First!-Chapter 1518: Death List (31)
The other end of the city.
Chuzheng surveyed the surroundings, deeply suspicious that Jih Youtang intended to get them killed there.
Chuzheng lagged two steps behind, walking parallel to Xi Mu: "Why did you come with him?"
"Why did you come with him?" Xi Mu stared straight ahead, responding with a somewhat ambiguous retort.
Chuzheng rolled her eyes internally: "I came because you came."
Otherwise, I would have dealt with him already!
"If I didn’t come, you wouldn’t have come?"
"Obviously." You’re the Good Person Card, if you don’t come, why should I? Card and person must be together!
Xi Mu glanced at her and said no more.
The relationship between him and Jih Youtang couldn’t be described as completely adversarial, as they had clashed before, but neither could defeat the other.
Sometimes they would collaborate, but they both found each other equally loathsome.
You dislike me, I hate you in return.
Despite Jih Youtang calling him "Xi Mu brother" so nonchalantly, who knows if he’s plotting to skin him alive.
Jih Youtang, humming an unknown tune, sauntered ahead, seeing the two of them leisurely strolling, he urged: "Xi Mu brother, little sister, hurry up."
"What exactly did you discover?" Xi Mu asked impatiently.
Jih Youtang shot a smile back: "You’ll know when you see it. Oh, did you guys find anything?"
In that building, Chuzheng and Xi Mu discovered several laboratories with specimens of those Yingying Monsters.
The specimens looked no different from the current Yingying Monsters, clearly captured for research after some incident.
They also found a few bottles of mysterious liquids labeled as "antidotes," though it’s unclear what they’re antidotes for.
Moreover, they found a map—not of the city—but marked with strange numbers, completely incomprehensible in their hands.
Xi Mu downplayed these findings when dealing with Jih Youtang.
Though Jih Youtang seemed to notice, he didn’t make a fuss and acted agreeable.
"Ah, we’re here."
Jih Youtang pointed at the high wall ahead.
The wall loomed over three meters high, obscuring whatever lay inside, with no sign of a door or entrance.
Jih Youtang walked along the wall, reaching a heap of debris conveniently piled against it.
Within a few moves, he climbed up and sat on the wall: "Come on up."
Chuzheng: "..." Can a big shot climb walls in front of you guys?!
-
"Boom!"
The wall collapsed with a crash; Chuzheng waited for the dust to settle, then walked in with hands in pockets and an air of nonchalance.
Jih Youtang wanted to say something, but remembering she’s a Grim Reaper Player, he held his words.
Benefiting from Chuzheng’s efforts, Xi Mu followed her through the gap, and even Lv Yuan entered cautiously.
Jih Youtang felt a bit dejected...
It seemed his prestige dropped significantly.
Upon entering, Chuzheng saw that inside was simply—a vacant lot.
Barren.
Utterly barren.
"Is this what you brought us to see?" Chuzheng asked with an icy tone.
"Of course... not," Jih Youtang grinned, using a tourist guide’s tone, "Follow me."
Jih Youtang led them toward the center of the empty grounds.
From afar, Chuzheng saw something climbing out from the center, and those claws unmistakably belonged to Yingying Monsters.
The Yingying Monster crawled out rather slowly, its size appearing notably smaller than those outside.
After a moment of wandering in place, it suddenly fixed its gaze on Chuzheng and company.
"See? This one’s easy to handle," Jih Youtang commented on the side: "If I’m not mistaken, this should be the monsters’ lair."
The three of them silently turned their gaze to Jih Youtang.
Leading people to a monster lair, with what intent?
Jih Youtang was quite excited: "Why don’t we go down and take a look? Who knows, there might be treasures."
"..."
Not really eager to go, as I’m a Grim Reaper Player and on their side!
Must uphold my stance!
-
Five minutes later, Chuzheng stepped over the body of an ally and descended from where it emerged.
It was a set of stairs leading downward, covered in strange viscous liquids, with the air filled with a foul odor.
Chuzheng used a Prop Card, with the card now floating in the air providing light.
Jih Youtang led the way; the stairs were slippery, making his gait awkward.
Chuzheng, however, walked steadily; she looked back at Xi Mu, whose balance was slightly better than Jih Youtang’s.
Chuzheng stretched out her hand to grab his arm.
Xi Mu raised an eyebrow, frowning, "What are you doing?"
"Supporting you."
"Not necessary."
Xi Mu tried to pull his arm away, but after two attempts, it remained stuck.
"You need it," Chuzheng asserted firmly.
If you slip, I’d have to fish you out of these odd liquids, wouldn’t I?
Xi Mu: "..."
Doesn’t he know if he needs it?
Just as Xi Mu was about to get angry, Chuzheng suddenly exerted force, making him slide forward, and then tighten around his waist.
Chuzheng had her arms around him on the steps, their bodies pressed together.
Through their clothing, it felt like they could hear each other’s heartbeat.
Xi Mu felt the warmth from the arm around his waist.
The searing warmth spread like a wildfire through his limbs.
Xi Mu’s ears gradually burned; he gritted his teeth, growling, "Let go!"
"Oh."
Chuzheng released him and gave a gentle push.
Xi Mu, unprepared, started falling, instinctively grabbing Chuzheng.
Chuzheng took the opportunity to pull him back: "You grabbed me first."
Xi Mu: "!"
Xi Mu was about to explode, anger written all over him. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Lv Yuan, behind them, dared not breathe heavily, attempting to minimize his presence.
"Xi Mu brother, little sister, if you’re going to snuggle, at least pick a better spot?"
Jih Youtang’s voice rose from below.
Xi Mu’s face darkened, motioning with his eyes for Chuzheng to let go, but she continued clutching him as they descended.
Probably because Chuzheng was supporting him, though his footing remained slightly slippery, he stayed upright.
Xi Mu was a bit curious about how she kept steady...
At the bottom of the steps, Jih Youtang stood watching them come down, his eyes filled with mischief and interest.
Under his gaze, Xi Mu grew even more irritable.
At the base of the steps were four tunnels.
Each path was identical, with slime coating the flooring and walls.
Chuzheng looked at Jih Youtang: "Which way?"
Jih Youtang shrugged, appearing innocent: "Little sister, I’ve never been down here, how would I know?"
Chuzheng: "..."
Get rid of him!
Better off without him!
Always striving to be a good person!
Lv Yuan timidly spoke up: "I think... that map might be useful; the symbol matches."
Lv Yuan pointed to a dim mark on the tunnel wall.
He remembered it matching what was on that map.
"What map?" Jih Youtang immediately grasped the key point.
Chuzheng and Xi Mu both turned to Lv Yuan.
Lv Yuan: "..." Did he say the wrong thing?!
Xi Mu looked at the hand Chuzheng had around him, then silently took out the map from his pocket.
