Chapter 57: Limitless Partiality

Three things had happened in the span of three seconds.

Firstly, there was an instantaneous movement from the man.

He had been standing in the center of the arena, 6 meters away from White, yet before White could blink, the man had appeared by his ear, whispering into it.

That was the first ability used: Teleportation.

Something especially unique to Psychics only.

The second was a hand-edge strike to his windpipe, powerful enough to knock the breath out of him, followed by a kick to the face that sent him ten meters back.

That was the second ability: Increased Physical Power, something unique to Physically Enhanced awakeners.

And finally, being thrown into the air, then impaled by the iron, without the man himself personally digging the iron into him.

It was Telekinesis, also something especially unique to Psychics only.

This made it very clear to White.

The man before him was able to use both sides of Limitless as a Psychic and as an Awakener.

But... he wasn’t the only one.

With Limitless Body activated, Zeras watched as the boy’s body began to glow, sending a pulse of blue runic lines across his entire skin.

The space before him shook, and in an instant, the iron bars came flying out of his hands with speed.

BOOOM!

The wall where White was nailed to was covered in cracks as he burst forward, appearing right above Zeras.

Raising his leg high,

BAAAAAANG!

The air shook as the back of his foot slammed towards the center of Zera’s head.

It had all happened in an equal three seconds, but instead of dodging, Zeras raised his face instead, allowing the back of White’s foot to connect solidly with his forehead.

One would expect him to be instantly sent into the ground, but all that happened was White’s feet slowing down the closer it came to his forehead, up until it completely stopped a centimeter away.

"The last time you punched, you were stopped 10 centimeters away, but this time, you reached up to a centimeter away."

"That’s a clear sign of Limitless Body."

BOOOOM!

Withdrawing his leg, White slammed out with a second kick towards the side of his head, but once more it slowed down before completely stopping a centimeter away from contact.

’What the hell? I can’t even hit him!?’

"And also, you used Limitless Interval to repulse the iron already stuck in your hands, a clear sign of the Psychic aspect of Limitless."

BAANG!

BAANG!

BAANG!

Slowly, Zera’s face switched from deep thinking, then to a slow disbelief, and then to pure shock.

"IRITIS!"

He roared, turning back up where the tall instructor stood with an amused smile.

"He can really use both aspects without Infinity Eyes!"

Zeras roared in excitement as Instructor Iritis’s chuckle boomed through the hall.

"I told you he was interesting."

BAAANG!

BAAANG!

BAAANG!

While all of that conversation was still happening, White never for once stopped punching and swinging with everything he’s got, yet none of it reached Zeras, who clearly didn’t even think of the attack, as he continued communicating his disbelief to Instructor Iritis.

In fact, it was almost like he wasn’t being attacked at all.

"Okay, boy."

Zeras finally said, turning to White, whose punches aimed towards his face, only to be grabbed the second it stopped a centimeter away from him.

Once more, White felt his entire weight lifted off the ground and in the next moment,

BAAAANG!

The world spun, and a sharp gasp tore through the arena.

A massive one-meter-deep pothole opened up on the ground as White was slammed down, eyes winded from both pain and disbelief.

His shocked eyes focused as he looked, finding Zeras crouched before him with an amused grin on his lips.

"You have my interest from now on."

He said, but in reply, White raised his right hand.

The space before him began to twist into a dark vortex, an obvious sign of Limitless Collapse being activated, but then Zeras shook his head, before saying.

"Watch."

His hands reached forward towards the vortex in space, and he folded his hands against it.

CRAAACK!

The clear sound of something being cracked to pieces rang out, and White’s eyes widened as the notification panel flashed.

[Host’s skill, Limitless Collapse, has been forcefully deactivated]

"Huh?"

"You don’t think the only thing the Infinity Eyes does is just allow me to use both physical enhancement and psychic aspects, do you?"

He whispered to White, whose heart pounded loudly in his chest.

"Limitless is a conscious energy and thereby has biases."

"If two Limitless awakeners fight, the winner might indeed be based on who has the most comprehension of their Limitless skill, but..."

At this point, Zeras rose, looking down at White.

"When it’s a battle between a Limitless user with Infinity Eyes and any other ordinary Limitless Awakener, Limitless becomes partial, giving more power and authority to the Infinity Eyes holder."

"I can deactivate all of your techniques, and in extreme cases, even make you lose them forever."

He said expressionlessly, before walking away.

It left just White there on his back, mind reeling from shock as the world around him slowly darkened.

’There’s... there’s such a thing?’

The last thing he felt was Instructor Iritis grabbing him by his waist before throwing him over his shoulder.

"With the power he has, I’m not afraid he’ll face an untimely death in the hands of the Newcomers."

Zeras called out, both hands in his pockets as he slowly floated up from the ground, reaching for the hole high in the arena.

"What I’m worried about is one of these 2nd-year averages going after him, so keep an eye on him, Iritis."

He said, and Instructor Iritis nodded, replying,

"Yes, Young Lord Zeras."

In the next moment, his image stalled and then slowly turned into blue motes of light that dispersed into thin air.

Without wasting any more time, Instructor Iritis also reached for the exit with White in his arm before becoming a blur that soared through the sky back to the first-year area.
