Legendary FBI Detective-Chapter 841 - 843: Interrogation
Seeing Luo An completely unfazed, Winslow and Reesi exchanged a glance and chuckled lightly, feeling a weight lifted from their hearts. They tidied up briefly and went with Luo An to the hotel to rest.
Everyone was exhausted from the day's events, and it wasn't until after ten in the morning that the group leisurely walked back into the temporary office.
Soon after they arrived at the office, a white man in his forties, wearing a suit and glasses and with his hair neatly slicked back, walked in.
"Hello, Group Leader Greenwood."
The man smiled and extended his hand to Luo An:
"My name is Ilhan, and I'm Mr. Vasel Wen's lawyer.
For the upcoming interrogation, I will be accompanying Mr. Vasel Wen. I hope Group Leader Greenwood won't mind."
There indeed exists a federal law allowing lawyers to accompany suspects during interrogations, so Luo An was not surprised. He simply extended his hand for a handshake:
"Hello, Lawyer Ilhan."
Lawyer Ilhan chuckled and asked:
"When shall we start the interrogation?"
"No rush, we still have some work left to complete."
Luo An gave Lawyer Ilhan a deep look, then gestured and said:
"Winslow, please take good care of Lawyer Ilhan."
"No problem."
Winslow grinned, walked up to Lawyer Ilhan, and said:
"Please follow me, Mr. Lawyer."
"..."
Lawyer Ilhan was half-invited, half-coerced by Winslow to wait in another room. Luo An poured himself a cup of coffee and said:
"Mona, I recall you previously found that Vasel Wen's double-crossing team is linked to several bank robberies in Georgia, right?"
"That's correct."
Mona added:
"Atlanta's police discovered a lot of suspicious clues but couldn't find any crucial evidence."
"OK."
Luo An pondered for a moment and quietly said:
"Mona, Michelle, look into Lawyer Ilhan's background. Investigate the stakeholders of his law firm and closely examine his personal relationships."
"No problem!"
Mona and Michelle got to work, and Reesi raised her hand to ask:
"What about me? What should I do?"
Luo An thought for a moment and said:
"Reesi, Chenier, head to Vasel Wen's residence and conduct a thorough search to see if you can find anything useful."
"Alright."
Reesi and Chenier nodded, gathered their things quickly, and left. Luo An hesitated for a moment, took out his phone, walked to the water cooler's corner, found a number, and dialed:
"Good afternoon, this is Luo An."
Time ticked away, moving from ten thirty in the morning to three in the afternoon.
Lawyer Ilhan stayed in the room waiting, but Luo An never mentioned interrogating Vasel Wen.
When Lawyer Ilhan looked for Luo An, he found Luo An lounging idly in a chair, yawning when he noticed him.
"..."
Lawyer Ilhan felt quite helpless, but because Luo An didn't initiate the interrogation, he couldn't interfere with his work and had to continue waiting. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
Time moved on. At seven in the evening, Lawyer Ilhan left the FBI building to get dinner. Just as he reached the restaurant entrance, his phone rang.
"Hello, Lawyer Ilhan."
On the other end of the line, Luo An chuckled:
"I'm going to interrogate Vasel Wen now. Since you're his lawyer, you can come along."
"..."
Lawyer Ilhan's eye twitched, and he took several deep breaths to suppress the negative emotions within before leaving the restaurant to drive back to the FBI branch building.
Twenty minutes later, inside the interrogation room, Lawyer Ilhan and Vasel Wen sat on one side, while Luo An and Chenier sat opposite them at the interrogation table.
Lawyer Ilhan looked unhappily at Luo An, while Vasel Wen stared blankly at the ceiling, completely uninterested in engaging with Luo An and Chenier.
Luo An sipped his coffee slowly, ignoring Lawyer Ilhan's gaze. Chenier sorted through documents silently, saying nothing. Despite there being four people in the room, the atmosphere was noticeably quiet.
A few minutes later, Chenier finished her organizing, nodded at Luo An, who in turn put down his coffee, picked up the first document, and cleared his throat:
"Vasel Wen, did you kill Gold Teeth Vernon?"
Vasel Wen turned to look at Lawyer Ilhan, who sat up straight and said sternly:
"Group Leader Greenwood, please show specific evidence.
Without evidence, my client has the right to refuse to answer such leading questions."
Chenier furrowed her brow, this was why she disliked lawyers; shielding criminals, calling black white, and sacrificing conscience was extremely excessive.
However, Luo An just smiled, seemingly unconcerned, set down the first file, and picked up the second:
"Vasel Wen, besides Herman, is there anyone else alive from the counterfeit money team?
From the treasure-seeking team you double-crossed, who else is alive? What about Benson? Where is he?
Was the fire at the warehouse started by you..."
Luo An continued asking dozens of questions unhurriedly. For some, Lawyer Ilhan still mentioned the lack of evidence, refusing to answer, while Vasel Wen deflected a few questions and even replied with a few "I don't know."
Chenier looked increasingly displeased, but Luo An remained exceptionally calm.
"So, you're saying that Benson from the treasure-seeking team was severely burned in the fire and was shot by Gold Teeth Vernon to relieve his suffering.
As for the counterfeit money team, two people survived, one of whom you killed, and Herman is useful, so you've kept him until now."
Luo An nodded, summarizing the answers he had just received. Vasel Wen looked at Luo An in disbelief, unable to comprehend what was going on.
Lawyer Ilhan glanced at Vasel Wen's expression, then looked at the calm Luo An, his face darkening instantly, and he said in a grave tone:
"Group Leader Greenwood, without evidence, please don't make reckless statements. The FBI cannot slander federal citizens."
"There's no slander; Vasel Wen knows full well what's true and what's not."
Luo An closed the file, shifted his gaze to Lawyer Ilhan, and said:
"As for you, Mr. Lawyer, it's not a good idea to know the law and break it."
Lawyer Ilhan frowned and was about to speak when the interrogation room door suddenly knocked. Luo An stood, opened the door, and two white men in suits walked in.
"Hello, Group Leader Greenwood."
"Hello."
Luo An smiled, shook hands with the two of them, exchanged a few pleasantries, and the two men didn't waste words, taking out a badge and showing it to Lawyer Ilhan, saying:
"IRS-CI, Mr. Ilhan Zoro, your financial situation has some issues. Please come with us."
"?!"
Lawyer Ilhan immediately stood up, staring wide-eyed in disbelief:
"Impossible!"
The two men in suits were done talking, lifted their coats to reveal the guns beneath:
"Please come with us."
"..."
Lawyer Ilhan's breathing became rapid, his chest heaving with intensity, and suddenly he turned, glaring at Luo An, and shouted in anger:
"It's you! Group Leader Greenwood, you really are too..."
"Without evidence, don't make reckless claims, Lawyer Ilhan. Be careful, or I'll sue you for defamation."
Luo An chuckled, Lawyer Ilhan was silent for a long time, then gave a cold snort and had no choice but to follow the IRS-CI out of the interrogation room.
Vasel Wen looked astonished at this scene. When Lawyer Ilhan closed the door and left, he realized what happened, and just as he was about to speak, Luo An smiled and said:
"Vasel Wen, Herman has already confessed everything. What will you choose?"
