Legendary Architect of Apocalypse-Chapter 138: When she catch the lie
Elias returned to the hall, and found Lyra still sitting at the same place where he had left her before. Even after a few hours had passed, she hadn't moved.
Her eyes looked tired, as she looked like she had run out of tears. The bottle of water was also lying next to her, untouched.
Elias walked over to her and crouched down beside her. "If you just stay here sulking, will it change anything?"
He opened the bottle of water, and brought her close to Lyra's lips. "Drink."
This time, he didn't simply ask her to drink, but used a command. Lyra opened her dry lips, allowing Elias to touch the bottle with her lips.
He tilted the bottle, letting the water spill in her mouth, making her drink. Lyra drank water until the entire bottle was completed, and Elias tossed the empty bottle away.
Even if she could force her to do things that he wanted thanks to the contract, he didn't find it to be a long term solution. The girl had completely lost herself, as if she didn't even have a reason for existence anymore.
She reminded him a little of himself from the past, when he was the only person left alive on earth. She needed a reason to live, and Elias could only think of one reason to keep her going.
"The old man is not dead," he told the girl. And for the first time, she gave a proper reaction. Her eyes rose up and her lips trembled. She was looking for hope, and Elias gave her that hope, even if he had to lie about it.
"Your grandfather was special. The Academy wouldn't kill someone like him. What you saw was nothing more than an illusion that the Academy used to calm down the escaped Soul Beasts."
"You mean..." The lifeless eyes had started gaining their shine once more, in response to Elias's words.
Lyra was someone that hadn't seen much of the treacherous world. Even the concept of lies wasn't completely established in her mind, especially when coming from someone that she knew.
"Not only is the old man alive, but everyone else that escaped with him is also alive. They were just caught and sent back to their homes since they weren't allowed in the land of living."
Elias brushed his fingers through his hair, letting out a long sigh. "They would have sent you back as well, but you have been contracted to me. That's why, they kept you back."
"I want to meet him." Lyra said. Even though she was a little confused, her eyes had gained their usual shine as she heard that her grandfather was alive and back safely.
"The Soul Beasts that are contracted can't return to that land," Elias answered right away. "That's why you were left behind. Do you understand now?"
"Contracted...?" Lyra tilted her head sideways, looking at Elias naively.
Elias had thought that the girl might know the concept of a Soul Beast at least, but her ignorant face made him understand that he had overestimated her.
It made him understand what Astralious felt when telling him some of the most basic things.
"Did you eat a small gem after I left?" he asked, describing the Soul Beast in as much detail as possible.
Lyra nodded innocently. "I found it near the bed. It looked tasty..."
Elias took a deep breath, mumbling, "It's going to be a long night."
He could occasionally hear the muffled laughter of Astralious, which made his lips twitch.
Astralious was experiencing the glee of watching someone suffer from the same problems that he had suffered multiple times. He was quite enjoying the sight.
Elias started explaining to Lyra about the concept of a Soul Contract that bound a Soul Beast to a human. Once the Soul Contract was accepted, it could never be broken unless the Soul Beast died.
"The Land of Fables is made for the Soul Beasts that haven't entered a contract yet. But the moment you are the Soul Beast that I accidentally dropped, you subconsciously accepted the contract."
"Even if I wanted to send you back, I can't do that. If you do return to that place, the world itself might collapse and the old man will get hurt when the sky falls on him. Do you want it to happen?"
Elias talked to her as if talking to a child, even making some stories to make her give up her stubbornness to return.
"No!" Lyra shook her head repeatedly, her face ghastly pale at the thought of the sky falling on the old man. "I don't want to hurt the old man!"
"Then just stay here." Elias patted Lyra's head. "The old man will also be happy as long as you are happy. I have already sent a letter to him, telling him that you are safe and with me."
The girl nodded her head even faster, like an electric fan. Even if she was an incomplete fable, her agility still didn't miss an opportunity to surprise Elias.
"Are you sleepy?"
The girl slowly shook her head, but her eyes truly looked exhausted. Even though there were no signs of the previous dead anymore, the exhaustion was still impossible to hide.

"Be honest. Are you sleepy?" Elias asked again, this time glaring at her as if he had already caught her lying.
Lyra lowered her head, akin to a child who had been caught lying. She gently said, "A little."
"From now on, we are partners. So you don't have to hide anything from me." Elias placed his arm under Lyra's knee and another arm around her shoulders. He stood up, holding Lyra in his arms and walked to the bedroom.
He placed her on the bed and covered her with a bedsheet. "Sleep well."
He turned off the lights of the room and left the room, leaving Lyra who had immediately fallen asleep without any complaints.
Elias slowly closed the bedroom door, trying to be as careful as possible to not disturb her anymore.
"Have you ever thought about what would happen when she catches your lie?" A voice appeared in Elias's head.
"We will deal with it when the time comes," Elias answered, hoping that the issue wouldn't surface anytime soon.
