Chapter 36: Rapid Progress

Amara glanced at the bull and cat-like beasts’ corpses and frowned lightly, "I’m not sure, but they shouldn’t be stronger than Mid Tier-1.

"1-Star Mages can’t tell the level of beasts and humans?" asked Lukas.

"No. Even most 2-Star Mages aren’t able to discern someone’s cultivation. Only 3-Star Mages can do it." explained Amara patiently.

"I see." Lukas didn’t ask any more questions because neither the current situation allowed him nor could he enquire about everything he needed to know about magic path and mages.

After feeling his mana nodes, he realized he had almost emptied one of the ten Mana Nodes.

’This means I can attack 18 times more before exhausting all mana.’ The realization didn’t displease him too much. He was just an Early 1-Star Mage, after all. He couldn’t expect himself to possess a large amount of mana.

However, what did displease and concern him was the fact that despite reinforcing his sword with mana, he wasn’t able to slash through the beasts’ bones.

He voiced the question, "Shouldn’t I be able to cut through their bones since they aren’t much stronger than me?"

"It’s already extraordinary that you can use the Basic Mana Manipulation Technique after comprehending it for just three hours. Normally, people need a few days and then practice for hours if not days before they are able to use it on the same level as you." Amara rolled her eyes at him.

"But to answer your question, no, you aren’t supposed to be able to cut through their bones at your current level because not only is your mana not powerful enough but also because beasts’ in general possess stronger bodies than us.

Still, if you want to cut through their bones, all you need to do is increase mana output when you reinforce your sword blade. But I would advise you not to try doing it right now because without enough practice you’ll most likely lose control of the mana and it will scatter, lending you in a dangerous situation." cautioned Amara.

"I understand," nodded Lukas and after scanning the injured beasts at the back, he walked toward a black ape, one of whose hands was missing from its shoulder and there was a deep wound on its left thigh which made it limp as it scuttled here and there, trying to find a way to charge forward.

Amara couldn’t help but nod approvingly seeing he hadn’t become overconfident after killing two beasts and choose a beast that did not pose too much danger.

When he approached the ape, he immediately attracted its attention.

Roar!

It roared, a crazed glint flashing in its red eyes, and charged toward Lukas, causing the earth to rumble beneath its feet.

Lukas’ expression turned solemn. He could feel the ferocity radiating off it and it made his heart pound.

Taking a deep breath, he moved to the ape’s left side, easily dodging the slap the ape had sent. Then just as it started to turn toward him, he used the Basic Mana Manipulation Technique to reinforce the sword and stabbed toward its one of its eyes.

Swish!

Puchi!

Despite him trying to be as calm as possible and not let the ape’s ferocity affect him, his hand trembled ever so slightly and coupled with the ape moving, instead of piercing its eye, it instead cut across its cheek, drawing out blood. But it was just a minor wound and only served to enrage the already maddened ape.

Roar!

The ape roared and swung its hand toward his head. The swing was fast and very powerful. If it connected, Lukas knew his head would definitely explode.

Amara’s heart skipped a beat. She could see Lukas wouldn’t be able to dodge because his body was tilting forward due to the full powered stab just now.

She hurriedly raised her hand, her palm facing the ape. As it shone with a dim light, patterns started appearing in front of her—she was executing a magic spell but her expression only became worse because she realized that by the time she finished casting the spell, Lukas would already be dead.

’I should have stayed closer—’

Swish!

Just as she was regretting not staying closer than she already was, she saw Lukas suddenly duck, dodging the strike and then grabbing his sword with both hands, he thrust it upwards at the ape’s chin.

Puchi!

A wet piercing sound sounded as the sword pierced the ape’s chin.

Immediately, the ape froze and light slowly vanished from its eyes.

Thud!

As Lukas pulled the sword back, the ape’s lifeless body fell to the ground.

"Hu!"

Heaving a deep breath, he stood up and looked at his hands. Though they seemed normal, he could feel his veins throbbing painfully.

Just now, he had used more mana than he could handle to make the sword stronger to kill the ape. While, thanks to his luck, he didn’t lose control of the mana after coating the sword blade and managed to pierce through its skull bones, his fragile mana veins couldn’t bear the rush of mana and almost tore apart.

"You alright?" He heard Amara’s voice. Glancing at her, he forced a small smile on his face and nodded, "Yes. Don’t worry about it."

Amara opened her mouth, wanting to say something but after hesitating for a bit, she just nodded. She knew if Lukas wanted to become stronger, he had to take risks. Only through them could he grow faster and become a real expert.

Lukas checked the Lust Rune and realized the Blood Quadrant had become saturated after killing the ape.

Glancing at the Knight Henry and trainee knights slaughtering the beasts and then at people on the town wall, he noticed no one was paying them attention. So, taking a deep breath, he activated the Rune.

Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!

Immediately, the surrounding mana started rushing toward him.

’Oh? This speed is almost double compared to the Sex Quadrant’s cultivation speed even though the mana here is thinner compared to that of Neera City.’ thought Lukas, satisfied. ’This speed can make up for its short duration.’

Looking at the beasts, his lips curled up. With so many beasts to kill, the duration wouldn’t be an issue.

Lukas watched the people and beasts for a while before closing his eyes to direct the refined mana into his mana nodes.

Since the knights weren’t mana sensitive, none of them noticed the movement of mana, not even Knight Henry.

While there were several mages on the town wall, because they were too exhausted after fighting for so long because, they also didn’t notice.

Lukas wasn’t concerned about them but the magic beasts. Fortunately, they also didn’t seem to notice anything abnormal and were focused on fighting the knights and trying to topple the town wall.

Beside him, Amara, who had obviously noticed a large amount of mana rushing toward him , was staring at him in shock. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing.

’This... Just what kind of Magic Cultivation Technique is he using?’

Compared to this technique, her Rivervale family’s Serene Water Art that was the source of countless people’s envy was nothing.

After her shock subsided, she furrowed her brows tightly.

In her opinion, he was being really reckless right now. Once Raymond and others realized he had run into some heaven defying opportunity and possessed such a powerful magic cultivation technique, they would definitely do everything in their power to capture him.

Based on their recent interactions, she knew he wasn’t a fool and must be aware of the consequences of openly displaying his cultivation technique.

She swept her gaze across everyone and seeing they seemed oblivious of the disturbance in mana flow, she couldn’t help but think, ’Don’t tell me he believes no one will notice anything since everyone is focused on fighting the beasts?’

Shaking her head, she stopped thinking about it. She would just wait and see what he was planning.

Seconds ticked by and exactly after eight minutes, the Lust Rune deactivated.

Haa!

Lukas opened his eyes and exhaled deeply, a smile appearing on his face.

In just eight minutes, not only did he fill up the two mana nodes he emptied while fighting, he also filled up another two, increasing his filled mana node count to 12. Not only that, he also discovered something.

When refilling the two empty mana nodes, he realized those two nodes’ capacity had increased as he needed around 10% more refined mana to fill them up.

With more mana in them, he could fight longer without worrying about exhausting it quickly. It would have been a good thing if he didn’t have Raymond to worry about. But because he did, he couldn’t afford to slow down his progression. Unfortunately, however, he could do nothing about it and could only accept it.

’Well, a few more days wouldn’t change anything... probably.’ He shrugged the worry and swept a glance through the crowd.

Picking another beast, he moved toward it while circulating the Basic Mana Manipulation Technique to reinforce his sword.
