Chapter 257: [LEANNA] 3.2

"Come on. If you want to go back up there, you’ll have to follow me," Sin said, voice so soft he never knew he could make with his current form when he saw her face lost in thought. She was so adorable!

A few seconds later, the girl answered, cautious of her words, "Why should I trust you?"

For a moment, Sin lost himself. Not because of the obvious distrust she gave him, but because of her voice. Her sweet melancholic voice that was still the same whichever era they were.

"For now, I am the best chance you’ve got to return to that tower. I know a way . . . You just have to trust me," he said, couldn’t stop his smile. Not minding his sharp teeth.

He was like a menacing shark demon as he grinned, and the girl couldn’t help but tremble. She watched the man with scrutinizing eyes as he bared his dirty teeth and claws at her.

"You better hurry, we are garnering attention." Sin urged the girl to take his hand.

The girl took a quick peek of her surroundings, and true enough, some Kunks were already on their way to their direction. Panic coursed through her veins, and she scrambled to her feet, not grabbing the man’s hand.

Sin just smiled as he shook his head a little. He removed his jacket and gave it to her.

"Put this on and cover your face."

The girl grabbed the jacket despite her hesitation and done a quick inspection of it. After making sure it had nothing on it, except the awful stinging smell, dirt, and mud staining the fabric for who knew how long, she wore the jacket and covered her face with the hoodie. She also wore the cloth the man gave her to cover half her face, trying her best not to hurl at the disgusting smell and stains.

"Let’s go."

Sin led the way into a secluded rocky area where a crevice was hidden just enough to fit a person.

"After you."

He then said, gesturing with his hand even though all he wanted to do was hug her.

Embrace her.

Make love with her.

But he knew she didn’t know him. He would only freak her out. Or worse, she would run away from him in a panic. And running around the surface was a big ’no-no.’ He didn’t have any choice but to control his urges. Comforting himself that all he was doing was for her to survive.

For a long while, the girl hesitated before she sighed and entered. I’m going to die here on my own anyway . . . might as well try my luck with this Kunk.

----

The underground cave was dim, though not dark, and the light of the burning magma was illuminating the place. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

The girl felt that she would die of suffocation at any moment. The atmosphere and climate were very different from Heaven’s Tower. Like the difference between heaven and earth. It was not even an hour that she came into this unfamiliar place, yet she was already melting. Even her bones seemed to be melting. Her vision was getting hazy, and her head was pounding so hard it was difficult to walk. Her skin itched, and the air was so tight that every breath she took, her throat burned.

Though she replaced her lungs with machines to filter the air, the mechanized lungs were designed to filter Heaven Tower’s air, not the surface air! In fact, the machines couldn’t filter the poisonous air of the surface world at all!

"Careful."

Sin grabbed the girl when she stumbled. He knew she was holding on to dear life at the moment. The surface was very different from Heaven’s Tower, after all. He had to deliver her to Heaven’s Tower –– fast!

An average human could last a day on the surface if he were lucky. But from a mechanized human came from Heaven’s Tower, at most, they could last half a day.

"T-thanks." The girl shoved Sin away and continued to walk.

Sin didn’t know whether to be amused or be angry at the stubborn girl as she sauntered, so desperate to steady her steps amidst her shaking legs.

"How far?" the girl asked.

Sin could tell she was having difficulty just opening her mouth.

"We will be there in just minutes if you let me carry you," he said grinning. He was telling the truth, though.

The girl didn’t react and continued to walk, but she knew what he said was plausible. She had to stop every once and a while when she was caught surprised by the burst of hot air from the holes and crevices. Or she had to take the long way to avoid the magmas. Whereas, the guy just strolled forward, not minding the hot air and lava altogether. Like he was just strolling down the park.

The girl stopped, sensing her vision was blurring as she felt shaky. Luckily, Sin was right behind her and without a word, carried her in his arms when she was about to fall.

"L-let go . . . ," she croaked weakly. She took in his aquamarine eyes, dismissing the familiarity at the grazing of their skin.

So beautiful. His eyes.

Sin ignored the sparks when their skin touch and dismissed the urge to touch her more as he sprinted deeper into the cave. It only took minutes did they finally saw the gigantic column with an open door where a colossal platform was standing by.

Sin’s original plan was to take as much time with her as possible, even for just an hour. However, he didn’t expect she wouldn’t last even an hour on the surface.

There is another platform? The girl thought and shot a questioning look at the man.

"There are a total of five platforms in a single tower, and it will take you back to different levels of Heaven’s Tower," Sin said, knowing the questions painted all over the pretty girl’s face.

He placed her at the center of the platform with the utmost care. He stared at her for a moment, memorizing every detail of her face. Taking in as much as he could.

It was only until she vomited blood that he stood to his feet and went to the control panel.

"H-how do you . . ." Though weak, she tried to talk. Wanting to ask how on earth a Kunk of the new generation could possibly understand the machines which only the geniuses at Heaven’s Tower could operate. And if he did understand, why didn’t he went to Heaven’s Tower. Why chose to stay at the desolate surface?

"Let’s just say I have experience with these kinds of things," Sin said, guessing her thoughts.

He already had his past life’s knowledge. He was able to study the complex mechanism and put everything together. It was hard at first, and it took him years –– but he did it.

Not to mention the first concept of the tower came from VIOS. Came from his very brain.

"In here, no one knows this cave except me . . . ," he then added, "and if someone did know, no one could operate this machine besides me." He was sure of that.

He shot her a smile before he resumed typing on the computer. Once everything was inputted, he entered a code that would seal the entrance forever.
