Chapter 137: Summon

It hadn’t even been a day since Jon secretly left the Gordon camp, and he had already found Jenny and Alexa’s legions.

"Jon? How is it? The camp..." Alexa and Jenny bombarded him with questions, eagerly waiting for his response.

But Jon’s deadpan look made them fall silent.

After a while he began speaking,

"Well, Robin and Laura have already occupied good positions. They’ll handle your entry. I can’t stay, we don’t have time. Let’s talk later." Jon gave them a light smile before disappearing.

They snapped out of it and exchanged glances.

’He’s always like that,’ Jenny thought, shaking her head before resuming their advance.

...

Jon’s journey back to the camp was a silent one. There were monsters around as Jenny and Alexa’s legions had taken care of them.

His mind was absent as he kept thinking of an issue. He didn’t know what to do concerning it. So he decided to break the silence and ask,

’Amelia,’ Jon called out as he continued his journey back to the camp.

-Mm?

Her voice echoed in his head.

He still didn’t understand why she was following him everywhere.

Aside from the fact he had spotted her, but that was a while ago and she was meant to have lost her interest, right? So why was she still following him.

So, he had a thought, She had to be following him for his talent, right?

However even that wasn’t direct. He didn’t think he would complete his requirements at all, and he knew she was aware of that too,

Yet, he didn’t ask. Recently, she had been speaking to him less, and he wasn’t about to pry about that also.

Rather he asked,

’Those top factions... where are they located?’

-Hmm... So, you want to know where the Moon Clan is located?

’Yes.’ Jon wasn’t surprised she figured it out immediately.

-Their locations aren’t a secret; however...

’However?’

-Their defenses are among the most difficult to breach, and the gravity of their planet alone would crush you, not to mention their people.

Jon fell silent.

-Is this about that girl’s story?

Jon’s face showed a slight flicker of surprise, as if asking, How did you know?

-It’s easy to link the two. What happened?

Her tone held a slight trace of worry. She was asking of his story, she knew he had a situation already but wanted to wait for a good time.

While the truth was, Jon felt a bit embarrassed.

He had already realized that, compared to Laura, his story was trivial, so trivial, in fact, that it felt foolish to dwell on it.

Laura had been just a child when her parents died and she was turned into a secret agent and forced into a mission where she had to befriend someone likely to die.

And what about him?

He resented his parents simply because their relationship had soured at a certain point in his life. Though that was just looking at it from a different point of view, in the end that was how it was.

During his three-day break, he had done some serious self-reflection.

They didn’t speak often but did that change the fact that they were still family? No.

He had claimed to be abandoned, but who sends their abandoned child that much money while leaving behind the words ’Meet us soon?’

He had been angry that they sent him away. But wasn’t that better than never acknowledging him at all?

The more he questioned himself, the more he realized his anger had been misguided. He no longer knew why he was mad.

But this resentment had lived inside him for years, a mere day or two of reflection wouldn’t undo that.

That was why he wanted to meet them. Even if they wouldn’t speak, at least he could see them.

But now, he was being told he had to get stronger before he could even reach them. And to do that, he first had to find Sun.

He had just a slot left and he wasn’t any closer to finding it.

Amelia didn’t rush him. She let him process his emotions before speaking,

’When I was young...’

Jon finally opened up, recounting how he had felt abandoned by his parents and the anger he had carried for so long. The more he spoke, the more foolish it sounded, even to himself.

After he finished, silence filled the air for a moment.

-Hmm... I can’t say that isn’t childish.

Jon listened intently.

-But as you now know, your parents are from the Moon Faction. That means they had countless responsibilities. And despite all of that, they still found time to see you. That, in itself, proves their love.

-However, that’s from a neutral perspective. You didn’t know any of this at the time, and they couldn’t tell you either. Compared to Laura, your issue is much smaller, but it still hurt you.

-You carried that pain for years, and over time, it festered into a scar.

Jon nodded. That was exactly it.

To an outsider, it was childish. But to him, who had lived through it, it had been very real.

’So what do I do?’

-I have an idea.

Jon’s eyes gleamed with hope as he looked up.

-Your ’Mind World’ contains all your past memories, right? So see through them.

-You can’t meet them now, but you can relive those moments in a near-real setting. Maybe that will bring you clarity.

’My memories...’ He mumbled to himself. His memories... He had stored them away in the sky of his ’Mind World,’ never daring to look at them since they only served as painful reminders.

Jon didn’t respond as they neared the camp. Amelia understood, this was a fragile moment for him.

Despite his distant heart and strong mental fortitude, this was breaking through his defenses.

And in that moment—

’Oh, shit.’

Amelia muttered in her mind, her voice heavy.

Jon stopped in his tracks. He couldn’t sense Amelia’s emotions due to their level difference, but he could feel her fluctuations.

’What’s wrong?’

Amelia lifted her head for a moment before lowering it again. Then, she spoke.

"I have been summoned."
