The imperial army hesitated, while their ancestor was occupied by the draval nobody was stopping Merlin from killing them all.

The current emperor gritted his teeth, had he known this would happen he would've tried to find another way.

" He he he, fear not brats, my job was to keep that old fool occupied, I'm not going to touch children, you're free to go.

Remember my warning though and do not regret your decision." The emperor still did not relax.

Merlin flew to the sky and floated there, seeing he was not attacking the emperor issued his command.

The army continued marching, their target was more than 500 kilometres away, it would take some time to get there.

They matched slowly since they were forced to fight against endless waves of night dwellers each night and hide by day. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

While mages can walk under the sun they weren't immune to radiation poisoning, extended exposure would not be good for them.

When the sun was about to run, black tents were pulled out. Mages cast spells creating deep holes in the sand.

The tents were set and they used the sand to cover them basically creating an underground camp.

They used this time to eat and sleep, when night fell they continued on their path, Viona's predictions were not far off.

It took them around two weeks to reach the edge of the draval territory but this was where they had buried the landmines.

These landmines were special, they were closer to remote controlled explosives than landmines really.

Stepping on them wouldn't necessarily detonate them unless you weigh above a certain limit.

Which is why they had to drive the draval away. Their weight can cause the bombs to detonate.

As the army drew closer, Viona sent a drone to intercept them. The drone was carrying a flat screen 2 metres in length and 1.4 metres in width.

----------------------------------------------------------

Baron Blackstone saw a weird metal bird flying towards them, he had been granted the honour of leading the first assault.

The emperor has remained behind, with the rest of the army, they were go follow after, this was usually how the empire fought.

Send a first assault team to test out the enemy then the stronger army led by higher ranked nobles would follow.

After them would then follow the emperor, the point was to drive fear into the hearts of the enemy.

Imagine fighting a strong opponent only uo find out there was one stronger behind them and an even stronger one behind that one.

It would make anybody wet their pants. The bird flew towards them, one of his soldiers was about to shoot it down when the baron stopped him.

He couldn't sense any mana from this thing nor did it feel alive to his senses. The bird stopped a few metres away from him.

The baron had already created a mana armour around his body, a skill all warriors can use upon reaching the paladin realm.

The black glass tablet floating below this bird lit up which caught him off guard, he found himself taking a step back.

He still couldn't sense any mana which made him wonder how that thing was even working.

He had never seen nor head of magic like this, whoever cast this spell must be much more powerful than he was.

This made the baron frown, then a young woman with glasses appeared through the screen.

" Hello hello, I'm the magnificent mage Lucy, I warn to..ouch." Somebody hit her on the head.

The young woman pouted and stood aside then a new figure appeared, when Blackstone saw her he froze.

He recognised that face, even after so many years, how could he not, after all he almost died to her hands.

" You." He gritted his teeth but also felt a deep wave of fear grip his heart like a chokehold.

" Based on your expression I assume you've met my mother." Her voice came out cold.

Blackstone realised this wasn't the woman who hunted his thoughts but her daughter, the missing princess.

He relaxed and smiled mockingly, " Little girl, is this little bird your spell?"

" Sometimes I forget how uneducated you lot are."

The entire army growled at her words, being called uneducated like commoners was a great insult to them.

Most of the army was actually made up of commoners, they were basically cannon fodder but even they got offended for some reason.

She continued, " This is not a spell Blackstone, it's a drone. I have no time to educate you so I'll get to the point.

I'm Viona, former princess of the empire and current chief commander of the Khaladrel Dream military.

By the law of war of Khaladrel I'm obligated to issue a warning and request your surrender.

So, surrender peacefully, after paying reparations your sins shall be forgiven, should you refuse.

I'm obligated to inform you that we will use heavy force. Any and all blood spilled will then forth be in your hands."

When she was done she looked at them with chilling cold eyes but said nothing more.

Blackstone wasn't sure how to respond, then he started laughing.

" Surrender? Have your years in hiding rotted your brain little girl. Here's my offer, on behalf of the great empire, I offer you the same conditions."

He expected her to cower, everybody knew the power wielded by the empire, even the tower was not as powerful though it came close.

But now with so many members of the tower, almost half even having joined the imperial army.

The tower no longer stood a chance, what right did this children have to challenge them.

What gave them such confidence, he grinned snugly. Wild thoughts ran through his mind.

The desire for revenge blazed high, he thought about doing things to that girl, with her looking so much like her mother.

He bet it would feel like humiliating that witch herself and he could finally sleep in peace without thinking about this demon of a woman.

However when he looked at the screen he didn't see fear, Viona grinned instead.

" I was hoping you would say that, blow them up."

Click, they heard clicking sounds below the sand. Blackstone looked but saw nothing.

He sent his spirit sense into the sand, it find it harder to pass through solid matter, even sand.

But he was still able to see a black disk below him, like the drone the object has no mans.

As soon as it clicked, he saw a pin shooting out and the object's temperature rose.

" What the hell are these?" He wondered then BOOOOM.
