Last Divinity: The Advent Of Dreams-Chapter 37: Dream step
Viona moved so fast even he had a hard time following her movements. Devil step was an old and powerful technique.
He was certain it was not part of the mana cultivation technique he gave her because to use it one needs to have the bloodline of the demon race.
Specifically that of the wrath lineage, which means it’s an innate ability. He jumped back to dodge her downward slash.
Her great sword split the ground creating a five metres long crack on the ground. Lava spewed out of the crack.
She tapped her feet on the ground and moved so fast the others couldn’t even see her anymore.
He raised his spear to the left, clang. Sparks flew and he felt a massive force travel through his spear to his arms.
The momentum behind her attack caused him reeling back 7 metres. His feet drew long trenches on the ground.
He looked at her trying to use his charm but she kept moving her head away. She avoided his eyesight making it hard to charm her.
He knew even with his strength he can’t win without using mana. He strengthened his body with mana.
This was a basic enhancement technique that all warriors and even mages could use so it enhancement was not much.
He attacked her first this time, his speed still couldn’t match hers while she was using devil step.
The most terrifying thing about devil step was that unlike other speed enhancement techniques.
It allowed it used to maneuver without loss in speed and the longer one uses it without pause the faster they get.
Of course the more mana and physical strain it will place on them but still, for somebody like Viona who was a warlock.
It was a very broken ability, one that even he had to be wary of. He stabbed his spear at her heart.
She dodged to the side and slashed at him, the hot air screamed and ignited around her already blazing blade.
He was already in a stabbing position making it hard for him to pull back so he just leaned forward more.
He balanced himself with his left hand, her sword flew above him burning the air itself. He twisted with his legs in the air and kicked her on the face.
Blood flew out of her nose and she flew back like a ragdoll and crashed on the ground a few metres away.
Even with her high combat talent, she was a long way from reaching his level of experience.
He stood up and pointed his spear at her.
" Your combat skills are improving."
She smiled bitterly, " But it seems I still can’t match you."
He shook his head, " Comparing yourself to me is not fair, I’m much older and have more experience than you."
She raised her eyebrows in confusion,
" Much older?" He didn’t answer, realising he had no intentions for a further chat she attacked.
She kicked the ground leaving a small crater behind. She appeared above him like a shadow and delivered a downward slash.
He stabbed his spear at the tip of her sword to divert the force of her attack. Just as it was about touch her sword, she moved it.
The change was slight making it so his spear still touched her sword but slid across it, that move caught him off guard.
She delivered a knee to his face forcing him to raise his left hand to block. She grinned but he grinned back.
She realised her mistake but it was too late, their eyes met. His eyes glistened like shining gold.
She was caught in his charm and he knew the fight was over. However this was merely a spar so the illusion he constructed for her was peaceful.
Her body fell to the ground, just as she was about to hit the ground he felt as if something banged against his head.
This distracted him, she used her hand to balance herself then kicked him on the chest.
He flew back, did a back flip and landed on the ground. He stood still unmoving for a few seconds.
He was still surprised by what happened.
’ I’m certain of it now, she’s of that lineage.’ Viona didn’t seem to understand what had happened.
She stood up and took a deep breath
" Flames of old who dwells below, ashes of blood who burnt before.
Rise from the depth and vanquish my foe." Khali smiled and shook his head.
’ This makes absolutely zero sense.’
He recognised the spell as well, it was also of the demon race but from a different lineage.
Having abilities from two lineages should not be possible yet here she was using them like it was nothing.
Red flames rose from the ground Infront of her, she pickled her finger and dropped her blood on the flames.
The flames burnt higher and formed a clone of hers made of fire. The clone had all of her physical stats but it couldn’t use her abilities.
At least not yet be believed. Both Vionas attacked him at the same time. The real Viona was much faster of course.
They flanked both his left and right, Viona’s sword cut at him, he raised his spear to block then the sword cut through him.
That scared her for a split moment before she realised he was just a mirage clone. Then he appeared next to her fire clone.
The clone was caught off guard and he stabbed it heart. It disintegrated into flame particles..
He of course knew that was not enough to take it down, as long as she had mana she could always reconstruct it.
They lunged at each other at the same time, her sword cut through him again and he disappeared into mist and appeared behind her.
She tapped her foot on the ground and disappeared. She reappeared to his left but he was already prepared.
He kicked her on the chest faster than she can dodge sending her flying away. She twisted in the air and landed on her feet then fell on one knee.
She coughed and held her chest while grinning. " That was damn painful." He turned towards her and took a deep breath.
" It was a good fight but I’m afraid it has to end now." He whispered.
" Giving up already?"
" Why would I do that?" He raised his foot and time seemed to slow down. " Dream step."
He whispered and lowered his foot.
