Mei Mei waved her hand, calling him forward. "Come on hungry, hungry, police man."

Shanhe was glad to be invited and he crossed his fingers hoping that there was cheese cake to eat. He was so excited that he walked by Lady Chi and hugged madam Feng as if they were long lost friends.

"To think that I trained him!" Chi Lian exclaimed. "Hmph! I have been betrayed for cheese cake." She whispered to her husband.

Muyang patted her hand. "It happens my love, Huaqi’s cheese cake has a way of making people lose their minds. If I had not tested it personally a dozen times and analyzed the contents, I could have sworn that they add some drugs."

Chi Lian pursed her lips and folded her arms, behaving in a childish way. Madam Feng was so mean. She still refused to share her secret recipe. What secrets were there between future in-laws?

Madam Feng, was happily entertaining their guest and serving him breakfast. Cheese cake was a must. Shanhe was glad to have made the trip.

Jingzhe went to work at Blue Galactic after having breakfast. He found that most of his employees were not in the best of moods because there was an inspection. One of the consequences of the death of the empress was an investigation into all space companies.

The explosion was officially being blamed on the technology of Cosmosis so all companies that sent people to space for any reason had to checked. All air crafts using any technology acquired from Cosmosis needed to be grounded.

"Is everyone down because they are mourning the death of the empress or are they just miserable because they are at work?" He asked Manager Gao.

The manager shrugged. "It is hard to say but we are all wearing black in honor of the dead empress. Others are wearing grey as a way of making a stand and continuing her fight against the over usage and reliance on AI and technology."

Assistant Xi fell in with them as they walked to Jingzhe’s office. "She was right you know, the technology is getting out of hand. Smart homes started off great but then we ended up with smart spoons, smart carpets, smart tables, smart chairs, smart artificial plants, smart artificial pets, smart forks, smart plates, smart toothbrushes."

"We get it." Manager Gao drawled out. "The technological revolution started off as a great idea and then it got out of hand."

Assistant shook his head. "I don’t think you get it. We have holograms popping up in restaurants when we are eating and they ask about our days and interrupt our personal conversations and suggest we are too fat to be eating this or that.

I saw one trying to analyze a father and daughter that were waiting for a taxi outside a mall. It decided that they did not look alike enough and judged the man to be a kidnapper."

He opened the door to the office and they entered. Immediately, he started rearranging physical files while Manager Gao sat down.

Jingzhe picked up from where his assistant had stopped. "I saw that story on the news, the hologram alerted a security guard and the man was retained as they waited for the police. As it turned out in the end, he was proven to be the mother’s fiance and soon to be father of the young girl but he was not the biological father."

Manager Gao had also seen that story. Both the man and the young man were a little traumatized especially because the security guards that detained him beat him up and called him a child trafficker. "What had the world turned to now?"

"It is actually worse than that." Jingzhe said, spinning a smart pen on top of his pointing finger. The pen was actually spinning itself. "Northern Yao private hospital turned all their regular ambulances into smart ambulances. Yesterday, one of the ambulances rerouted because it wanted to take a faster route and caused an accident. In the end, the patient died and someone broke a leg."

Manager Gao was shocked. "Woah! I did not see that on the news."

"Because the hospital settled." Jingzhe told them. "I only know because my mother-in-law owns Phoenix news and one of her reporters had the story. All final news goes through my mother-in-law before its aired. The hospital begged for the story not to aired as they had settled with the victims and grounded the ambulances."

Manager Gao leaned forward. "Unbelievable. How could they allow a machine to control an ambulance? This is a life and death matter. Not every job needs AI."

The three men sighed. He recalled the time complained when a company created a smart program started changing the preferred courses of students at the university basing off of past grades and socioeconomic compatibility. If its recommendation had been followed, poor and rich students would not be allowed to take the same courses.

The same smart program had tried to reassign people according to the information it gathered about then online. People woke up in new careers that they did not apply for or want.

It did not stop there and moved to birth control, recommending which couples needed to have more or less children. Which ones were not compatible physically because they would give birth to unattractive babies. It raised commotion when it started rushing women of certain ages to have children and sharing their information with men it deemed suitable.

The royal office had stepped in and ordered that smart program destroyed.

Jingzhe sighed. The Empress might have been a fake but her cause held some merit. There was too much smart software and technology in the world: too many devices that were not necessary.

"You know what scares me?" Manager Gao asked. "That one day in future, the machines will take over and all the humans will be under control. A small group will take up arms and find a new habitat for humanity. They will lead a secret war against the high tech cities where machines prosper."

"That sounds like a movie." Assistant Xi said.

Manager Gao scoffed. "That is because it is a movie."

Jingzhe leaned back in his chair. It was time to cut the useless chit chat. "The imperial inspectors and other relevant departments are here. How are things being handled?"

Assistant Xi grimaced. "The people in the engineering and technology departments are stressed right now. They are being asked to explain every small thing. Some equipment is being broken apart."

Manager Gao swung his right leg out with strength before crossing it over the left one. "The way we are being searched, you would think that our company is involved in the death of the Empress."

Jingzhe pursed his lips. He was the CEO and he was involved. Did this count as his company being involved? "Keep calm and give them whatever they need. We don’t use Cosmosis technology so we are fine."

Assistant Xi turned on the television and stepped out to bring his boss’s coffee. Manger Gao also left to keep an eye on the inspection team and ensure that no one was stealing trade secrets.

On the television, a press conference started. The Emperor, donned in black officially declared the Empress dead and it was time to bury her.

His eyes were red and puffy. His grief was screaming for attention.
