Chapter 457: Su Xiaoxiao Banished to the Kids’ Table

Hearing the soft and adorable words of the little ones, Su Xiaoxiao’s heart almost melted. Her longing for children grew even stronger.

However, Jiang Yexun had always been stubborn about this matter. Since he promised the family that he wouldn’t let her get pregnant so soon, he wouldn’t break his word.

So, she had to come up with a good plan to secretly conceive without anyone knowing.

"Goodness, just look at what you’ve done to this dumpling!" Mrs. Su lightly patted Su Xiaoxiao’s hand, pulling her back from her wandering thoughts.

Su Xiaoxiao glanced at the dumpling in her hand and realized the wrapper was on the verge of breaking. Instinctively, she wanted to destroy the evidence.

"What are you thinking about, huh? If you’re distracted, you might as well go play with your nephews and nieces at the kids’ table. That’s more suitable for you," Mrs. Su said, her tone laced with mock disdain.

From the time she was young, Su Xiaoxiao was notorious for being hopeless in the kitchen. Her attempts at cooking were an endless cycle of failure.

"No way! I already promised to make delicious dumplings for them," Su Xiaoxiao quickly refused.

It was her first Lunar New Year after getting married, and she was determined to show everyone that she had the potential to be a good wife and mother.

Resolving to stay focused, Su Xiaoxiao earnestly began making dumplings again. But after wrapping three or four, she had to admit she really had no talent for it.

Fortunately, everyone else was distracted by the television and didn’t notice the monstrosities she was creating.

Feeling desperate, she shot a pleading look at Jiang Yexun. To her surprise, his dumplings were not only beautifully crafted but also made with impressive speed.

When he noticed her gaze, he immediately swapped the dumplings she had made with six of his own without anyone noticing.

Looking at the perfectly crafted dumplings now sitting on her tray, Su Xiaoxiao couldn’t help but grin from ear to ear.

She thought she had pulled off the switch unnoticed, but Mrs. Su, with just one glance, figured it out.

Still, seeing how affectionate the young couple was, Mrs. Su didn’t feel the need to expose them.

Only when Su Xiaoxiao had wrapped twenty dumplings did Mrs. Su intervene. "Alright, that’s enough. Go check on the kids now. They’re still young, and I don’t feel comfortable leaving them alone."

Truthfully, Su Xiaoxiao was a bit worried about them, especially since her cousins had bought marbles as gifts. It made her all the more cautious.

After a moment’s thought, Su Xiaoxiao wiped her hands clean and walked over to where the four little ones were playing.

"What are you all up to?"

She scooped up Little Jingchu, who was hugging her doll on the floor, into her arms and watched the three boys engrossed in a game of marbles.

The adults had crafted a large wooden tray for the game, complete with small pits for the marbles to fall into, ensuring they didn’t roll all over the place.

"Pretty auntie, play with us!" The eldest boy immediately grabbed a handful of marbles from his pocket and shoved them into Su Xiaoxiao’s hands.

Su Xiaoxiao was surprised. "Wow, you’ve got so many! Where did they come from?"

"Big brother won them all!" Little Jingchu clapped her tiny hands in admiration.

"So impressive," Su Xiaoxiao said, patting the eldest boy on the head with a smile.

The boy blushed, his little face glowing with pride and shyness.

Not to be outdone, the other two boys protested, "We can win too! We’ll win lots and lots of pretty marbles for pretty auntie!"

"It’s okay, as long as you’re having fun. Don’t get too caught up in winning," Su Xiaoxiao said gently, trying to soothe their competitive spirits.

But the kids were too young to fully understand her words.

They only knew that their favorite auntie had praised their big brother for winning marbles. Naturally, they wanted to do the same to win her approval.

Little Jingchu, however, didn’t have any marbles and quickly grew upset.

"I don’t have any marbles! Big brothers are mean! They won’t give me any!" she huffed, her little face puffing up in frustration.

Before her brothers could comfort her, she got up and shoved the doll she had been holding into Su Xiaoxiao’s arms.

"This is for auntie! Auntie, take my gift and don’t take my bad brothers’ marbles!" she declared in her soft, determined voice.
