Kissed and Seduced By the Most Rough Man in the Village-Chapter 43: The Matchmaker Comes to Propose
Although he really wanted to agree, doing so would be too unsafe. Concerned about the little educated youth’s reputation, he had to suppress his strong desire and continued to coax gently, "After the autumn harvest, I will start preparing to meet your parents and also prepare the gifts for your elder brother. Let’s try to have the wedding before the New Year, okay?"
Su Xiaoxiao buried her head in Jiang Yexun’s chest, nuzzling affectionately. She didn’t immediately answer his question but furrowed her delicate brows, deep in thought. She was pondering how to let Jiang Yexun know that the path to marrying her, if done through the proper channels, would take quite some time.
"Hmm?" Jiang Yexun let out a soft hum, urging the girl in his arms.
Feeling the hand clutching his clothes tighten, he was about to reassure her that they could take their time when he heard her muffled question, "After we finish the autumn harvest, can we take some time off to go elsewhere?"
"For how long?" Jiang Yexun’s large hand gently caressed her soft and silky hair.
The silky touch made him worry that his calloused fingers might damage her delicate strands of hair.
"At least half a month," Su Xiaoxiao hastily suggested, tilting her head back to look at Jiang Yexun.
Jiang Yexun’s dark, long eyelashes drooped slightly as he gazed deeply at the puzzled girl before him, a glint of thought flickering in his eyes.
"Alright! After the autumn harvest, we’ll go where you wanna go." He made a sincere promise.
"Then, let’s go see my brother first and try to convince him to come back home. He hasn’t been home for two years, and if he can help persuade my parents, it will make things much easier." Su Xiaoxiao hooked her arms around Jiang Yexun’s neck and said earnestly.
"Are you sure you’re not lying to me?" Jiang Yexun looked at the cunning glint in her eyes and pinched her soft cheek lightly.
"Of course not!" Su Xiaoxiao vigorously nodded her head. However, convincing her brother to return home might be unlikely. Her primary goal in visiting him was to rescue him. It was normal for people to get injured on missions, but how could she have never heard from him for over two months if his injuries were severe? Her brother was likely killed by the person behind the scenes while he was recovering from his injuries.
"Alright, let’s first meet my future brother-in-law. But for now, we need to go back and hang up the curtain." Jiang Yexun rubbed the fluffy back of the girl’s head and cheerfully said.
When he came out, he already had the tools to hang the curtain. He had even obtained the iron wire through a friend on the black market. Jiang Yexun was tall and long-limbed, so hanging the curtain was quick and easy for him.
They didn’t dare to linger inside the house, so once they finished their task, they returned to the field. Jiang Yexun then returned the bamboo basket on his back to Su Xiaoxiao.
"After you finish delivering the hogweed, rest well. I’ll prepare lunch later, and at noon, my mother and Aunt Liang will also come to the educated youth dormitory to discuss our marriage." He chatted away, seeming like a worried father sending his daughter to school. To others, it might seem like an inappropriate display of affection for a husband-to-be, but for Su Xiaoxiao, it was just right.
After sending Jiang Yexun out of the educated youth dormitory, Su Xiaoxiao took out her high school textbooks and sat in the yard, leisurely reading. When Dong Jiaxuan, who had returned from work, saw the empty kitchen stove, she immediately panicked.
“Educated Youth Su, it’s our turn to cook today. Why haven’t you prepared anything?" Dong Jiaxuan asked anxiously.
"Why should I do everything alone when we both have chores?" Su Xiaoxiao stood up from her little stool and gave Dong Jiaxuan a disdainful look.
If it weren’t for the fact that they had been eating together for so long, she wouldn’t have been willing to cook alongside Dong Jiaxuan. However, after these three days, they would no longer need to gather together. Su Xiaoxiao would just buy a small wood-burning stove and cook by herself. It was better to spend a bit more money than to get disgusted.
Su Xiaoxiao walked into the kitchen. Sensing that Dong Jiaxuan didn’t follow, she poked her head out and urged, "What are you still standing there for? Do you want to delay everyone’s lunch?"
Unfriendly glances of the other educated youths were all directed at Dong Jiaxuan.
She bit her lip in frustration and then quickly went into the kitchen.
It was as if they were competing with each other, trying to outdo one another in who could be more inefficient. What others could accomplish in one or two minutes took them at least five minutes to barely manage.
"Educated Youth Su, Aunt Guo is looking for you." Tao Junlan rushed into the kitchen and tried to pull Su Xiaoxiao away.
Before Su Xiaoxiao could respond, Dong Jiaxuan hurriedly stopped her. "Educated Youth Su, where are you going? Do you want me to cook for over twenty people all by myself?"
With a disdainful sneer, Tao Junlan then pushed Su Xiaoxiao. "You go and talk to Aunt Guo. I’ll take care of lunch for today."
“Thanks! Then I’ll do it for you when it’s your turn.”
Su Xiaoxiao, with a grateful smile, left the kitchen amidst Dong Jiaxuan’s jealous stares.
Aunt Guo was accompanied by a somewhat plump woman. When she saw Su Xiaoxiao come out, her eyes immediately lit up.
"Oh, so this is the little educated youth, right? Such a good-looking girl! No wonder Aunt Guo was so eager to drag me over to help her son court you." Aunt Liang greeted with a smile.
Su Xiaoxiao’s fair cheeks flushed with a faint rosy hue, her head lowered in shyness.
Even though she had been quite playful when she was teasing Jiang Yexun, it was different. More precisely, Jiang Yexun was different.
She died at the age of twenty-three, yet she had been by Jiang Yexun’s side for a full thirty years. In her perception, the two of them were inseparable. Moreover, there were so many people in the educated youth dormitory, discreetly observing them from the sidelines.
"The girl from the city is a bit shy. But don’t be shy, there’s nothing to be embarrassed about getting married. Look at Aunt Guo’s son, he may be a bit older, but he’s tall and strong, a good hunter. Aunt Guo is known far and wide for her good temper. After you get married, you’ll enjoy endless happiness. Your matters in your new home will all be decided by you."
Aunt Liang seemed completely unaware that they had already discussed it in private, and she continued to praise him dutifully. Su Xiaoxiao quickly glanced at Jiang Yexun and then lowered her head, secretly smiling.
"How about that? I didn’t deceive you, did I? Yexun is a good child. He’s been single for so many years, not a hint of scandal in his romantic history. It’s all about his high standards; the ones we introduced to him, he dismissed, insisting on finding someone himself.
And now, through all the searching and seeking, he’s finally found you. You’re the one he’s taken a liking to, and after marriage, he’ll surely hold you in the palm of his hand. Your future as a couple, it’s all up to you," Aunt Liang explained and reassured, her words flowing smoothly.
As for Jiang Yexun, he was already twenty-four years old and hadn’t married yet. Neither he nor Aunt Guo had mentioned it to Su Xiaoxiao before.
Unexpectedly, Aunt Liang had already explained it all without Su Xiaoxiao having to inquire. It must be said, she was a reliable matchmaker.
But Su Xiaoxiao remained silent throughout, and Jiang Yexun was as anxious as a cat, scratching at his heart.
