Chapter 409: The Frustration of Not Being Able to Show Off

By the time Jiang Yexun returned to the Su family home, it was almost four in the afternoon.

When Su Xiaoxiao heard a knock on the door and opened it, she saw him looking a little winded, as though he’d been traveling for a long time.

"Where have you been? You look like you’ve been on a long trip," Su Xiaoxiao quickly said as she reached out to pull him inside.

Although she couldn’t help but lean into him, the icy cold mixed with wind and snow made her shiver involuntarily.

Jiang Yexun quickly steadied her, placing a hand on her arm to help her.

"Let’s go inside first. I’m not sure if it’s going to snow, but the temperature’s been below freezing these past few days."

After shutting the door behind them, Jiang Yexun rubbed his hands to warm them up before setting down the bamboo basket he was carrying.

"I went to Hang City. It’s been famous for tea since ancient times. But that tea is protected by higher-ups, so it’s impossible to buy. I paid some employees to get a few branches cut and wrapped in soil for me. We’ll see if we can get them to root. If not, we’ll think of another way."

As he spoke, Jiang Yexun began taking things out of the basket.

In addition to the three tea saplings, he had brought back some local snacks from Hang City.

"The weather’s cold outside, so the food’s a bit cold now. But it’s no problem; we can steam it in a pot and it won’t affect the taste." As he spoke, he started walking toward the kitchen with the food in hand.

Su Xiaoxiao, like a clingy cat, hung onto him, wrapping her arms around his strong waist.

"When did you go to Hang City? It takes at least four hours by car to get there from here."

Jiang Yexun, holding her to avoid her falling, answered, "A couple of days ago, I got an introduction letter from the street office. Last night, I bought a ticket and headed to Hang City. It didn’t take long. Once I found the right people, it was easy to get them to help."

After putting the pastries on the counter, Jiang Yexun washed his hands, then turned around and pulled Su Xiaoxiao into his arms.

He gently kissed the top of her fluffy head, nuzzling it softly.

"What have you been doing at home today? With your personality, I’m sure you couldn’t sit still. Did you run into any danger when you went out?"

"I went to the scrap station and bought some things. But I’ve already taken care of it, and nothing’s going to go wrong," Su Xiaoxiao mumbled, her head buried in Jiang Yexun’s chest as she rubbed against him affectionately.

"You bought old items?" Jiang Yexun furrowed his brow, his tone full of concern.

"Just a few, but I’ve hidden them," Su Xiaoxiao replied, leaning back slightly and holding up her pinky to show just how small the amount was.

But seeing his serious expression and the words he seemed ready to say, Su Xiaoxiao quickly stood on her tiptoes and planted a heavy kiss on his lips.

Then, pulling back, she tilted her head and smiled sweetly.

"I’ve already admitted my mistake, so you can’t scold me anymore!"

Her voice was as sweet as honey, almost dripping with affection.

Jiang Yexun, who couldn’t bear to stay angry with her, found himself completely losing any will to scold her. He didn’t have any intention to be mad at her; he just regretted leaving her alone at home, which gave her the opportunity to do something so risky.

"I won’t scold you. But next time you want to buy something like that, remember to take me with you. We still have a few foreign exchange coupons, right? After the wedding, let’s go out and take a look together," Jiang Yexun said, his lips curling up into a smile.

"Mm-hmm!" Su Xiaoxiao quickly nodded in agreement.

She even wanted to show off how valuable the things she bought today were and how much money she could make from selling them later.

But to talk about this, she’d have to reveal her secret of being reborn. So, Su Xiaoxiao had no choice but to swallow her words and keep her excitement to herself.

Who could understand the frustration of picking up such a big treasure but being unable to show it off to anyone?
