People had been coming and going through the estate since early morning. After all, this was the Campbell family’s wedding—of course there would be a swarm. Watching the countless servants hurrying back and forth before any guests had even arrived, Yujin swallowed dryly.

So this day really came.

His palms were slick with cold sweat, and he had to stop himself several times from wiping them on his trousers. Thankfully, the coordinator had thoughtfully given him a handkerchief to prevent any stains on his white tuxedo. With that, Yujin barely avoided another minor crisis and straightened his back, tilted his head back, and took a deep breath.

“Daddy, Daddy.”

He looked down at the voice calling from below to find his daughter, even lovelier than usual today, gazing up at him.

“Don’t worry. You look amazing. Really pretty.”

“You’re supposed to say handsome.”

When Yujin bent down to pick her up and said that, Angela stuck out her lower lip, as if wronged.

“But Daddy’s pretty. Everyone says so. No one’s ever seen an omega as pretty as you.”

“Oh... really?”

He didn’t know whether to be flattered or offended, but he was definitely flustered. He had once explained things to Angela simply, when she first started asking about her parents and how she was born. He told her there are men who can have children, they’re called omegas, and she was born from one.

Female omegas were rare but did exist; she would learn more in school later. For now, that much had been enough to satisfy her curiosity. But he still didn’t know how to respond to things like this. Yujin wiped the sweat from his brow and answered awkwardly.

“Thank you.”

“Mm.”

Angela smiled brightly and nodded, and Yujin said gently,

“But the prettiest in the world is you, Angie.”

“That’s ’cause Daddy’s my daddy, and I’m your kid, so I’m pretty toooo.”

She puffed out her chest and stretched the words as if bragging. Her flushed cheeks and wide smile were so adorable that Yujin couldn’t help but shower her face with kisses.

“Daddy, that tickles! I said it tickles!”

Her bubbly laughter eased his nerves a little. As he exhaled a soft breath, Angela nestled in his arms and called out.

“Daddy.”

“Yeah?”

He responded immediately. Angela grabbed his face, pulled it back, and looked into his eyes.

“Don’t worry so much. I’m here.”

There was no defense against a child not even half his size saying something like that. Yujin felt his nose sting and quickly forced a smile.

“Thank you, Angie.”

He hugged his one and only ally tightly and took a breath. Only after two more deep breaths did Yujin finally let her go. Angela was wearing a cute dress today for the wedding. He had wanted her to be a flower girl, but when he brought it up, all he got was mockery in return.

“My little sister and daughter as the flower girl at my wedding? That’s rich.”

After hearing that, he couldn’t bring himself to ask again. He was afraid everyone would look at Angela with strange eyes, and that fear made him shrink back even more.

“Angie, what did Daddy say?”

He looked her in the eyes and asked, and Angela replied clearly.

“It’s just a play you have to do because of the will, not a real wedding, so I shouldn’t worry.”

“And?”

“Eat yummy food, play, and after the ceremony go back to our room with Daddy.”

“And?”

The girl had been reciting fluently but now hesitated a little.

“Today I can’t sleep with Daddy.”

“Right.”

Yujin brushed her bangs aside.

“You’re three now, Angie. You can fall asleep on your own, right? You won’t cry?”

“Mm-hmm.”

Angela nodded bravely.

“I can do it. It’s okay, I’m a big girl now.”

Even as she said it with confidence, she looked so small to Yujin. Someday she’d have to get used to sleeping alone, but it still felt too soon. They’d never slept apart before. Angela sounded strong, but he was the one who felt like crying.

This is part of the training.

They only shared a bed all this time because of poverty. Might as well think of this as a good opportunity.

Yujin steeled himself and stood up. When he checked the clock on the wall, the time was drawing near. Just as planned, he picked Angela up and left the waiting room.

“Um, the ceremony’s about to start...”

A servant standing outside cautiously stopped him in the hallway. It was obvious he didn’t want any last-minute issues. Yujin gave him a flat, expressionless look—completely different from when he was with Angela—and said,

“I’ll be back in time. Just getting something for my daughter to eat.”

If he wasn’t there, he didn’t know how they’d treat Angela. Especially in this house. Hugging her close, Yujin headed straight for the kitchen. It was a place he visited often, but today was different.

“Wow.”

Angela, still in his arms, widened her eyes and gasped. Yujin did the same. It looked like every servant in the house had gathered there.

He’d brought her thinking she might not get any food once adults started crowding in.

He had planned to feed her something before the reception, but now he grimaced. He could go without eating—he had no appetite anyway—but Angela was different. The thought that she hadn’t eaten a thing since morning made his stomach churn.

“Angie, you must be hungry. I’m sorry. Daddy will ask them to make you something quickly.”

At the very least, he hoped for some bread and milk. He tried searching the fridge for anything quick, like he usually did, but the kitchen was too packed with people coming and going to even step inside.

That massive kitchen, now completely full.

He’d heard they were also using the barbecue area outside and even the annex kitchen, but he hadn’t expected this. Just how many people were coming?

What now.

As he held Angela, hesitating, a voice suddenly came from behind.

“What are you doing here?”

Startled, Yujin turned and blinked even wider. The butler, always expressionless, was staring at him.

“Shouldn’t you be waiting in the dressing room? There’s not much time left.”

He checked his wristwatch deliberately as he spoke. Yujin had no ❖ Nоvеl𝚒ght ❖ (Exclusive on Nоvеl𝚒ght) choice but to explain.

“She hasn’t eaten anything since morning. I thought I’d feed her something since the reception will take a while...”

Not that this man cared in the slightest.

His voice trailed off into futility before he fell silent. The butler shifted his gaze from Yujin to Angela. The moment his eyes met hers, she tensed and shrank into Yujin’s arms. He hugged her tightly, silently saying he’d protect her. Angela clung to his neck, showing her absolute trust.

Maybe there’s food already set outside.

The thought crossed his mind and he decided to back off.

“Everyone’s busy, so I’ll just...”

“In front of the dressing room.”

Just as Yujin tried to pass him, the butler spoke from behind. Yujin froze and turned.

“There was no one posted there?”

“...There was.”

He answered, puzzled. The butler’s brow twitched slightly.

“So even though someone was there, you still came here yourself.”

At that, Yujin immediately went on alert.

“That’s right. I can’t let my daughter go hungry. Is that a problem?”

He snapped, sharp as a blade. The butler nodded.

“Yes.”

Before Yujin could say anything more, the butler continued first.

“They were stationed there to assist you. Completely useless, it seems. I’ll make sure they’re warned.”

“...What?”
