“Are you very sleepy, Angie?”

Winston asked again as he watched the child yawn. Angela shook her head, tears hanging at the corners of her eyes.

“I’m fine. Because I’m going to see Daddy!”

Even though her eyes were heavy with sleep, she stubbornly insisted—just like Yujin’s child. Winston couldn’t help but smile and gently stroked her hair.

“Yeah, you’ll be able to see him soon.”

When he called early in the morning to say they’d be coming soon, Yujin had screamed with joy over the phone. Winston suddenly remembered the last time he made him that happy.

It was a joy he probably would never have felt if he hadn’t been locked away on the island in the first place.

Thinking that made his mouth taste bitter. Seeing Angela rub her sleepy eyes and stubbornly endure just to meet her daddy made his heart ache even more.

“Were you really upset that Daddy wasn’t at your birthday party?”

Winston asked, and Angela paused before nodding. She had done everything she could, but it wasn’t enough. On the other hand, even if Winston hadn’t poured so much money and effort into it, Angela would have been satisfied just being alone with Yujin. Watching the island gradually grow closer, Winston once again mulled over his complicated feelings.

From early morning, Yujin had been pacing near the helicopter landing area. Since hearing that Angela and Winston were coming together to the island, he couldn’t stay calm. He barely touched the breakfast prepared by the staff, constantly glancing outside. As soon as he finished eating, he ran outside and began waiting for them in earnest.

Had the birthday party gone well?

He was so upset that he hadn’t been there. It was the most precious day of the year. Even during times when making a living was difficult, he had always made sure to celebrate Angela’s birthday. He’d bought a cheap slice of cake, lit candles, and celebrated together.

He wished he hadn’t said anything.

It wasn’t the first or second time Winston had spoken harshly to him, so why couldn’t he just let it go? What was pride worth?

As he let out an involuntary sigh, suddenly a familiar loud noise reached his ears. He hurriedly looked up and saw a dark shape flying through the sky.

Angie.

Yujin’s heart pounded, his breath quickened. Clenching his hands as if in prayer, he stared without blinking as the helicopter rapidly approached. The noise grew deafening, but he stood firm. The helicopter landed at a short distance from him, the wind battering his whole body. It felt like an eternity before the propellers finally stopped spinning. Then the door opened, and the first to step out was a bodyguard. Unable to hold back, Yujin ran with all his strength.

“Angie!”

His heart swelled at the thought of holding the child. Running toward the helicopter with arms wide open and a bright smile, his mind was filled only with thoughts of his daughter. The next person to come down had to be Angela, he thought.

“Ah!”

When he spotted the figure that followed, Yujin let out a short scream like a shout. The tall man who appeared next stopped in place upon seeing Yujin running toward him. Yujin tried to stop himself urgently but tripped over his own legs due to momentum.

“Argh!”

He flailed clumsily and fell, finally screaming. Reflexively closing his eyes as the ground rapidly approached, he braced for immense pain—but reality was different. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

...Huh.

Suddenly, his body floated in midair. Surprised, Yujin opened his eyes without realizing it—and indeed, he was suspended in the air. He looked around helplessly with wide eyes, then finally turned his head—and met Winston’s gaze.

“You’re okay?”

Winston asked softly with a gentle smile. Yujin was shocked again. Why was this man acting like this? It had only been two days since Winston didn’t come to Angela’s birthday party claiming he’d throw one on the island. What could have happened in that short time for his attitude to change so drastically?

Unable to respond immediately to this unexpected situation, Yujin blinked. Suddenly Winston asked,

“What’s wrong? Do you feel sick?”

“Ah, no...”

Yujin instinctively denied it but then added in a fading voice,

“You seem a little... strange.”

“Me?”

Winston frowned slightly. Though the face was familiar, the atmosphere was different. What was going on? Still bewildered, Yujin suddenly heard a voice from below.

“Daddy, Daddy!”

“Angie!”

Hearing the voices, Winston turned joyfully to embrace her, pulling her close. Yujin, realizing Angela was clinging to him like a princess, blurted out in embarrassment,

“P-please put her down now.”

He wanted to hold the child as soon as possible. Frustrated, Winston tilted his head in mock innocence.

“What are you doing? I said put me down!”

Winston suddenly said something strange as Yujin flailed his legs again and shouted.

“A guy I know always rides his son on his shoulders and carries his partner in his arms. Maybe I should try it too?”

“What did you say?”

Yujin stared in disbelief, utterly baffled. Winston looked down at Angela and asked,

“Angie, want to try a piggyback ride?”

“A piggyback ride?”

Angela blinked, confused. Her expression was exactly like Yujin’s, which made Winston laugh. With a quick glance, a sharp-eyed bodyguard stepped forward and picked up the child. Soon Yujin saw Angela sit astride Winston’s shoulders.

“U-uaaah!”

“Angie!”

Angela and Yujin screamed at the same time. Winston, whose ears were ringing, instinctively squeezed his eyes shut, then opened them again. From Angela’s hand gripping his head tightly and Yujin’s pale face, Winston easily knew how startled they both were.

“Dangerous, what are you doing! What if Angie falls!”

“Daddy, I’m scared.”

“Put me down! Hurry! Angie, just hold on a little longer. I’ll put you down soon.”

“Daddy, Daddy.”

Crying and yelling from both sides, it became a mess. Feeling the difference between ideal and reality, Winston reluctantly ordered the bodyguard again. After Angela was taken down from his shoulders and Yujin was carefully placed on the ground, the two immediately hugged each other.

“Daddy, Daddy!”

“Angie, I missed you!”

The two embraced tightly, kissing repeatedly, and Winston silently watched. Only after their emotions calmed did Yujin look up at him. Of course, it was not the expression Winston expected.

“Don’t ever do that again, it’s dangerous!”

Yujin glared at him fiercely with eyes full of resentment and anger. Winston just shrugged. What on earth was he thinking? Yujin was annoying, but he didn’t press further. Who knew # Nоvеlight # when he might take Angela away? Every second counted now.

“Angie, shall we go inside? They asked me to make a cake. Do you like chocolate cake?”

“Yes, I do. Daddy’s the best! I love you!”

The child repeatedly showed affection for Yujin, clinging to his neck and showering him with kisses. Yujin smiled comfortably as if used to it.

...Sigh.

A sigh slipped from Winston’s lips, but neither Yujin nor Angela noticed—they were lost in their own world.

“Wow! The sea!”

Angela, wearing a swimsuit, ran wildly along the beach. The warm, fine sand beneath her feet lifted her spirits, and Yujin smiled, chasing after the child. Winston just sat watching on a beach chair. It was an incredibly peaceful beach. Anyone unaware would be amazed by the happy family scene—but the reality was completely different. If Winston suddenly disappeared right now, they probably wouldn’t even notice. Or maybe they’d be glad. Thinking that, Winston sank into deep gloom.

The target was clearly Yujin.

But now, he also wanted to win Angela’s heart. Had he ever imagined a day like this? Watching them seriously, he suddenly saw Yujin head toward the mansion. Seeing Angela crouched alone on the beach, fiddling with the sand, Winston impulsively stood up.

“What are you doing?”

Angela looked up and answered,

“Playing in the sand. Daddy went to get the basket.”

“...Okay.”

There was nothing more to say. Angela also returned to playing with the sand as if the conversation was over. Silence flowed between the two for a while. Clearing his throat, Winston asked,

“Anything else you need, Angie?”

“No.”

The answer came too easily and quickly. But Winston didn’t give up.

“Nothing at all?”

Again, Angela answered without hesitation.

“No, I’m fine because Daddy’s here.”

It was the answer Winston had already expected, but also the one he least wanted to hear. Unaware of Winston’s burning frustration, Angela lowered her head again and continued playing with the sand. Watching the round head quietly, Winston opened his mouth without thinking.

“Don’t you need Papa?”
