King of Hollywood-Chapter 536 - 257: How Many Children Will There Be?
Chapter 536: Chapter 257: How Many Children Will There Be?
"You mean—your parents know about us..." Adrian gestured incompletely, and Britney immediately nodded like a pecking chicken, looking pitifully at him as if she didn’t know what to do.
But she didn’t know that, after getting this answer, Adrian breathed a sigh of relief in his heart, thankful it wasn’t pregnancy. It wasn’t strange for him to think this way. If you had two women call you within less than a second to tell you they were pregnant, followed by an even younger woman coming to you frantically, you too would inevitably think along those lines.
If Britney really was pregnant, that would indeed be troublesome. While it wouldn’t be easy to sort out, with his current status it wouldn’t be particularly difficult either. However, it could have a terrible impact on the girl’s future. But if it was just Britney’s parents knowing she had slept with him, that would be much simpler.
"Don’t worry, don’t panic, dear, come and talk slowly." Adrian comforted her, pulling the girl to sit on the couch.
Perhaps it was his calm demeanor that influenced her, and Britney finally managed to shed her frantic look, though she still seemed somewhat troubled.
"I... I don’t really know what happened," the girl stammered, frowning as she tried hard to remember, "I overheard their conversation at home yesterday afternoon... they were very angry... it seems I said something wrong at some point... I’m worried, Ed, I’m scared, if... if they... I don’t know what to do, I don’t want to leave you, Ed..."
When did she say something wrong? Adrian felt like facepalming. It was just like Britney to do that. He had repeatedly admonished her not to speak carelessly, but she clearly hadn’t taken it to heart. Still, with Britney looking at him with those begging eyes, hands clasped in front of her chest like a little puppy yearning for rescue, it was hard to resist.
"So think carefully, what exactly did you say, and when did you say it, Britney?" Adrian said gently, "Take your time, don’t rush, I’m right here by your side."
Britney obediently nodded, then took a deep breath, grabbed his arm, and leaned against him as she thought hard, "I think... it must have been... the night before last, or the afternoon before last... Yes, it must have been the night before last! Because... I remember after dinner, both mom and dad looked a bit upset, that’s right, it was like that, but..."
She stopped there, raising her head to look timidly at Adrian, "I can’t seem to remember what I said."
"That’s okay, so do you remember anything you overheard yesterday afternoon?" Adrian waved his hand, seemingly unconcerned.
"Hmm... something like, this is terrible, this will... have a bad effect on the family... Damn it, how can they say that..." Britney pressed her body even closer to Adrian, the tone of her voice carried dissatisfaction, clearly not pleased with her parents’ conversation, "They said... measures must be taken, something about obstacles, opportunities, I’m sorry, Ed, I couldn’t sleep at all last night, I’ve been worried..."
"Relax, baby, it’s going to be alright," Adrian, after a moment of contemplation, pulled the girl into his embrace, resting his forehead against hers and looking into her anxious eyes, "Do you trust me?"
Britney immediately nodded without any hesitation, "I trust you, Ed, I love you, don’t let me leave you."
A satisfied smile crossed his lips, "Good, then do as I say—when you go home, don’t mention this to anyone, especially your family, act as if it never existed."
"But, Ed..." The girl started to say something but was silenced by Adrian’s finger against her lips.
"You said you trust me, Britney." Adrian’s smile was filled with confidence, "I’m going to handle this perfectly, no one will get hurt, whether it’s you or your parents, you’re still mine, understand?"
Britney looked at him intently for a while before smiling relievedly, "Yes, I understand, Ed, I’m yours, I’m always yours."
"Then, go back now, just like usual, don’t say anything, don’t do anything, soon, this will all be resolved." Adrian kissed her lips, "Of course, such a mistake must not be made again."
"Yes, I promise, I will absolutely not make the same mistake again," the girl nodded vigorously.
Although it was a bit troublesome, it was also an opportunity, but that wasn’t the most important thing right now. The first thing to do was to sort out those two phone calls.
"Is this what you called important?" In a private room of some upscale club, Monica and Sophie looked at each other with strange expressions.
Just tens of minutes ago, Adrian had called both of them separately, saying that he couldn’t come to their houses due to some unexpected issues and needed them to come to an upscale club, declaring it was very important. Although Monica and Sophie were a bit unhappy—after all, it would be best to discuss such matters at home, and it also seemed to be a bad sign—they still drove over, only to find out that they were meeting each other here.
"Yes, this is why I couldn’t go to your houses," Adrian said with an apologetic spread of his hands.
Monica and Sophie’s expressions grew even stranger. Even if pregnant, that still should have allowed him to visit their homes. Could it be...
"Alright, please take a seat, ladies," Adrian said as he gestured to them, waiting until they had done so before making a "please bring it out" motion with his hand.
Digging into their purses, Monica and Sophie continued to look at each other with odd expressions and then handed over the hospital reports to Adrian.
Adrian, already mentally prepared, casually flipped through them, quickly finding the data he was looking for before setting them aside. He then looked at the two silent women and coughed, "Yes, you guessed right. After Monica called to tell me she was pregnant, Sophie followed with a call saying she was pregnant too."
Monica and Sophie remained silent, maintaining their silence. Adrian shrugged and continued speaking, "I just looked over the reports, and you’re both two weeks along, so I thought back carefully, and if... there’s no mistake, then it’s highly likely it was from that time two weeks ago..."
He gestured with his hand and stopped talking, while the two women in front of him became awkward, both lowering their heads to sip their coffee.
After the threesome in Sicily, Sophie had gotten on well with Monica, and having had a no-holds-barred fling with Adrian, plus Monica, who had experience and had received Adrian’s directive early on, had acknowledged this arrangement. As long as the three of them were together, it was generally a threesome. After she arrived in Los Angeles, these occasions became even more frequent, and so during that threesome two weeks ago, Sophie and Monica both got ’shot’.
Because Monica wanted a child, Adrian never wore a ’raincoat’ when he was with her, and it was the same even if Sophie was there, always staying with Monica. However, doing something too many times would always lead to an exception once or twice. Two weeks ago, he definitely stayed with Sophie, and then, by incredible chance, hit the target, so...
"This... this is really..." Sophie made a gesture and covered her forehead, not knowing what else to say.
Monica, however, quickly recovered and looked at Adrian with a teasing tone, "Dr. Bolete was right, Ed, your ’little swimmers’ are indeed very lively."
Adrian couldn’t help but laugh, taking Monica’s hand and gently patting it, "I told you, my dear, I would surely give you a child."
"I’ve always remembered that, Ed," Monica sighed, "Although it’s not perfect, I’m still very happy, very, very happy."
She was saying this as she pressed Adrian’s hand to her cheek, looking at him with sincere and contented eyes.
"If it’s a boy, he will be very smart, if it’s a girl, she will be very beautiful," Adrian smiled slightly, "Either way, this is our child, Monica."
Monica nodded and then glanced at Sophie beside her, stood up, and walked to the corner by the floor-to-ceiling window to look at the view outside.
Understanding her intention, Adrian immediately sat down in front of Sophie. "How are you feeling?"
"How else could I be feeling? Not good at all." Sophie replied, irritation in her voice, her eyes filled with a complex expression.
"Why? You should know that a little life has already begun to grow in your belly, and in ten months, you’re going to be a mother, Sophie," Adrian said with a smile, his fingers lightly stroking her cheek, "Motherhood is a very sacred and beautiful job. I know you’re worried, but believe in yourself, you will be a good mother."
"But..." Sophie started to say something but hesitated and fell silent.
"I will also do my best to be a good father, just as I just said to Monica. This is our child," Adrian said, suddenly flashing a crafty grin, "I think I’ve already proven my abilities as a father."
Sophie couldn’t help but show a weird expression, and Monica, standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, couldn’t help but snicker, though she was a bit afar, she could still hear their conversation. After Dennis and Aniston’s wedding, many people already knew Adrian had a daughter.
"Do you think you can handle it?" Sophie scoffed sarcastically, expressing her dissatisfaction.
"Of course," Adrian said unabashedly, "I can handle you both, so why would I be afraid of two kids?"
Monica laughed again, and Sophie glared at him but soon calmed down. She had already accepted a lot about Adrian and was used to it; accepting it one more time was no big deal.
"Alright, in the next ten months, you both just relax, go wherever you want, as long as you stay healthy. Of course, it’s best if you act together," Adrian began making arrangements, "Sophie, cancel your rented apartment and move into Monica’s place, how about that?"
"You mean, let me and Monica cohabitate?" Sophie tilted her head and looked at him, "To be seen by the paparazzi entering and leaving with big bellies in two or three months’ time?"
"Don’t worry, that kind of thing won’t happen. I just want you to have someone to look out for each other, after all... you’re pregnant at the same time, aren’t you?" Adrian spread his hands. He knew that Gwyneth and Blanch had been living together for so long without any paparazzi catching on.
"And it would also make it easier for me to accompany you," he continued, "Even though I’m busy, I will be able to make time. If I don’t see your bellies slowly growing, I would definitely not be happy."
Sophie muttered something lowly and then sighed, looking at Adrian. "Knowing you was definitely a mistake, Ed, but I always keep repeating it."
"That’s just the way he is, Sophie," Monica came over at that moment, resting her hands on Sophie’s shoulders from behind, "He tempts you nonstop. Once you make a mistake, it’s too late to turn back."
"You make it sound like I’m some diabolical villain, Monica," Adrian protested.
However, Monica didn’t pay him any mind and leaned in to continue speaking to Sophie, "Why don’t we go to the baby store now and have a look? It’s best to get prepared for these things early."
"Alright then." After thinking it over, Sophie agreed to Monica’s suggestion. Since Adrian had acknowledged the child as his, she didn’t have anything to worry about.
"Need me to accompany you?" Adrian stood up as well.
"No, you go and tend to your own business." Sophie said bluntly. There was no need to worry or to foster discontent. Of course, any frustration couldn’t be taken out on Monica, so Adrian was a convenient scapegoat.
"That’s right, you go and tend to your own business," Monica agreed with Sophie but gave Adrian a secret wink as they left.
That’s my Monica. Adrian chuckled as he escorted them out of the club, only returning to his car and driving home after watching them get into their vehicle and leave. He wasn’t worried about Sophie. If it hadn’t been for his intervention, her child would likely be three years old by now. She actually did like children. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have spoken with such excitement on the phone. The slight irritation in her heart was more a matter of throwing a little tantrum. It would soon disappear just as it had before.
And things did turn out that way. Although Sophie had turned Adrian down once, she couldn’t resist a second time. After he had secretly joined them shopping at baby stores twice, she began discussing the child with great enthusiasm. Of course, the two women never brought up marriage. Monica knew what was in Adrian’s heart, and when he first met Sophie, she had been distrustful of marriage, so...this was a good thing.
"I wonder if ten months from now, we’ll have two boys or two girls, or maybe one of each," Adrian would occasionally muse to himself in his study, gazing at their bellies.
"Why can’t it be three boys or three girls, or two boys and a girl, or two girls and a boy?" Charlize once asked upon hearing this, being Adrian’s personal secretary and assistant, so trusted and capable that she would be one of the first to know about things like Sophie and Monica’s pregnancies.
"In that case, there could also be four boys or four girls, or two of each, or three boys and one girl, or three girls and one boy..." Adrian laughed, "Come on, Charli, twins aren’t that easy to conceive."
Then he looked at her with interest, "If you want a child, I’d be more than happy to help, dear."
Just like before, his teasing elicited an eye roll from Charlize.
If there was any downside to Sophie and Monica both being pregnant, it was that Adrian wouldn’t be able to enjoy wild times in bed with them for a long while. After all, apart from them, it was only Gwyneth and Blanchett, with whom he regularly had threesomes. Although he’d had foursomes with Kate, Charlize, and Sarah before, those hadn’t been revisited. More often, his encounters were one-on-one. The occasional threesome was not fixed—sometimes Kate with Charlize, or Kate with Sarah, or Charlize with Sarah, or Sarah with Liv—so it was genuinely regrettable.
But no matter, in three or four months...
Even though Sophie’s and Monica’s pregnancies had disrupted Adrian’s holiday plans, he still headed to New York after the New Year to visit his uncle, which had become an annual ritual. However, this trip also included a romantic night with Natalie. The apartment Adrian bought in Manhattan’s Upper East Side was a luxury duplex penthouse with about 3,000 square feet of space.
He initially wanted to buy a house, and even in the Upper East Side, where space is a premium, there were still some, albeit not as sprawling as those in Beverly Hills. On reflection, such a purchase might be too ostentatious. Acquiring property in New York was meant to facilitate meetings with his women, so he settled for the luxury penthouse—of course, avoiding certain areas.
The downside was the proximity to his uncle’s place; they could come over in just about ten minutes’ walk. But there were no better places than this, and he certainly wasn’t going to Brooklyn or Queens County. Long Island was a good option, but it was too close to Natalie’s house. He knew enough people there, and Adrian didn’t want someone to see Natalie enter his place and have Evan come knocking during an intimate moment.
Visiting his uncle was no different than before—well, there were some differences. After picking out faults, uncle Anderson grudgingly commended Adrian for Universal’s acquisition and the stable yet rapid development of AC Media over the recent years. Aunt Martha complained as usual about not bringing Lily along, but unexpectedly, Victor was also at home.
"I heard you’ve pulled off another acquisition, quite surprising," Victor expressed admiration during casual conversation. Due to frequent interactions, the relationship between this cousin and Adrian had grown warmer.
"With the rise of the internet, the structure of the media is set to change, just like the advent of the television, but the change will be much faster," Adrian replied, "If you have the funds, perhaps you could try dipping into it."
"Maybe." Victor said after a moment of hesitation. (To be continued. If you like this novel, please visit qidian.com to cast your recommendations and monthly votes. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
