Keyboard Immortal-Chapter 2491: Disappearance
Chapter 2491: Disappearance
“What makes you so certain?” Zu An was intrigued.
“The Fiend Emperor always brought the scepter with him. The day he died, he self-detonated in the monsters’ camp to bring down as many monsters as he could. The scepter should have fallen into the monsters’ hands then,” the Saintess explained. “The Fiend races can sense the scepter. We would have known if it was with a fiend, but the scepter remains missing even after so much time has passed. So, it's most likely with the monsters. However, I don’t know whether it’s with the Monster Lord, the Lord of Slaughter, or the other monsters.”
Zu An nodded. It was fine as long as the scepter really was with the monsters. He was going to visit the Monster Lord anyway, so he could take a look around while he was there.
The Saintess suddenly asked, “Big brother Zu, you previously mentioned that you came to this spacetime fragment with a few other big sisters. Where are they?”
“I was about to ask you.” Zu An looked grim. “Have you not seen Big Manman?”
“Big sister Pei?” The Saintess was taken aback. “I haven’t. What makes you ask that?”
Zu An’s heart sank. “We split up to deal with different matters. Jiang Luofu and Yun Yuqing took Xiaoxi to search for the Brilliant Pinflower. Suolun Shi stayed behind to guard the future Mojard, Salamay, and the others. Big Manman’s mission was to contact the Fiend races’ surviving army. Back then, she mentioned that she intended to reach out to you, the Saintess.” He realized that Xie Daoyun would have recognized Pei Mianman if they met and would have told him about it by now.
The Saintess was stunned. She asked him about the time and location of where they'd parted. Doing a rough calculation, Pei Mianman should have long since arrived here. She wondered, “Did something happen to big sister Pei?”
Zu An shook his head. “Manman is quite strong now, and she’s carrying many protection artifacts. She should have no trouble protecting herself. She might have been tied down by other matters along the way.” Despite saying so, he was still worried.
“Don’t worry, big brother Zu. I’ll send my men to look into it.” The Saintess called her subordinates in and ordered, “Send some men to search the vicinity. I’m looking for a human woman with the family name of ‘Pei’. Miss Pei is extremely beautiful, and...” She almost blurted out that Pei Mianman was big, but that would have been distasteful, so she said, “She leaves a strong impression. Anyone who has seen her would remember her.”
“Yes, Saintess!” The subordinate rushed over to relay her order.
The Saintess turned to Zu An and gently consoled him, “Don’t worry, big brother Zu. I’m sure big sister Pei is fine.”
Zu An nodded, though he remained nervous. He wasn't in the mood to set off and visit the Monster Lord anymore.

Fortunately, the subordinate swiftly returned with updates. “Saintess, there are sightings of a woman who fits your description in a small town 150 kilometers southwest. She was looking into you.”
“Where is she?” Zu An hurriedly asked.
The subordinate shook his head. “I’m afraid I don’t know. She should have been heading in our direction, but no one saw her afterward.”
Zu An frowned. While 150 kilometers would be a long distance for mortals, Pei Mianman could cover it within a short time. What could be preventing her from coming here?
“Don’t worry, big brother Zu. I’ll send someone to investigate it. There’s no way a living human could disappear into thin air. It’s only a matter of time before we find her whereabouts,” the Saintess consoled him.
Zu An shook his head. “It’s fine. I’ll investigate it myself.” He asked about the town’s location before rushing in that direction.
The Saintess rushed out as well. “Big brother Zu, I’ll go with you.”
Zu An noticed the fiends following below them and said, “You’re currently an important person in the Fiend races. Your abrupt departure could have ripple effects.”
“The town isn’t too far away. It should be fine for me to take a small trip there. Still, I should give them a heads up. Big brother Zu, can you wait for me?” the Saintess asked apologetically.
Zu An nodded. As anxious as he was, he could afford to wait a bit. He had clashed with the Fiend races earlier in the day, so they could misunderstand if he suddenly left with the Saintess without giving them a heads up. If the unity among the Fiend races unraveled at this juncture, it would become exceedingly hard to deal with the monsters.
The Saintess quickly descended to explain the situation to the panicking crowd. Shortly after, she returned to Zu An’s side and said, “Let’s go, big brother Zu.”
“Thank you, little sister Ling’er,” Zu An said.
“Big brother Zu, you’re being distant. I'm worried about big sister Pei too, and she disappeared in my territory. It’s only right for me to do my part,” the Saintess said.
Looking at ethereal moonlight reflecting off the Saintess’ face, Zu An could understand why the Fiend races revered her. There is something divine about her.
Zu An grabbed her hand and rushed toward the town. With his traveling speed, it didn’t take long before they reached their destination.
The town was small but prosperous, possibly because it was en route to the Fiend races’ main camp. It was already nightfall, but there was still a number of people on the streets. They came from different races, and their occupations ranged from merchants to cultivators, adventurers, and treasure hunters.
Zu An frowned. This place feels chaotic. It won’t be easy to investigate.
They made their way to the town’s largest inn. Zu An headed straight for the manager and asked about Pei Mianman’s whereabouts.
The manager shook his head. “How could I remember every guest when we have so many people coming in each day?”
Zu An detected dishonesty in his words, and his face darkened. He was about to exert his methods when the Saintess took off her veil and gently said, “Manager, please give it some thought. Miss Pei is very important to us.”
When she took off her veil, the dimly-lit hall visibly brightened up. Her beautiful and pure face surprised the manager, prompting him to point a trembling finger at her. “Y-You are...”
The other patrons recognized her and exclaimed in delight, “It’s the Saintess! It’s the Saintess!”
A huge commotion followed. Everyone rushed over and surrounded Zu An and the Saintess, but at the same time, they kept a meter away from her, as if they were worried about sullying her. It wasn't Zu An’s first time witnessing this, but he was still awed by the Saintess’ high standing in the Fiend races.
The Saintess nodded. “I came here because a friend of mine went missing. Have any of you seen her?” She proceeded to describe Pei Mianman’s traits.
Zu An was worried about not being able to find clues, but to his surprise, many people raised their hands and exclaimed, “I’ve seen her! I’ve seen her!”
