Chapter 1560: Infighting Flockers: Interjection

"Quick question: between Iona and Alder, which one would you consider to be a better possible future monarch?" Zhen Yue asked.

By a massive technicality, neither she nor her fiancee had any stakes in this battle for the crown, but they were still going to be affected by whomever wins the damn thing.

In other words, she needed to know if she needed to get involved and save Flavonous from probably being decapitated or let things be and allow Capitano to finish the deed.

Thankfully, Santiago was sharp enough to pick up this subtle implication.

"Honestly, they both kind of suck," Santiago answered honestly. "But I think Iona would be less likely to hold a grudge."

"That tells me nothing, so I’m thinking we just turn this moment into a fair fight before dipping," Zhen Yue concluded. "Darling, can you tackle that weasel-looking guy into a wall while I break that curse on Flavonous?"

"Sure thing."

"Thank you."

During the brief moments that Zhen Yue and Santiago were discussing their plan of action, Capitano was in preparation to bring down a lightning-covered palm down on Flavonous’s head, with the clear aim of decapitating the man in a single blow.

[Meteor Tackle!]

However, seconds before the weasel bloodliner could finish his decapitation strike, Santiago appeared from out of nowhere and tackled the man with an aether art directly into the opposite wall.

Thanks to Zhen Yue’s abilities, Capitano was completely blindsided by the sudden charge and was unable to bring up their defenses in time to prevent themselves from getting tackled.

The sound of crunching bones an pulverized flesh filled the air as the sudden attack from the young peak Aether Master managed to injure the Aether Grandmaster.

At the same time as this act of pure violence was playing out, Zhen Yue made moves to free Flavonous from both the curse afflicting his arms and the aether art that Capitano had cast on the poor bastard...and that was the extent of the aid she was going to give.

Anything more than that may lead to unnecessary battles in her future, and frankly speaking, Zhen Yue had no desire to participate in such things until they became personal problems. Especially when the Zhen Clan already had their own enemies to worry about at this time.

’Now just like with the cursed statue... BREAK!’

Zhen Yue’s decursing technique was surprisingly brutal yet effective since she didn’t use any formal aether arts. All she did was channel her [Chaos] into her fist and release a wave of energy over the intended target. Combined with the [Belt of the Mother Bear] and her own innate totem formula, and the power released was equivalent to a tsunami slamming a mountain into dust. However, it was actually surprisingly gentle to those Zhen Yue deemed as non-hostile entities.

When Zhen Yue first discovered she could perform such a feat, she had used it on the cursed statue that was technically the catalyst for this entire situation in the first place.

To be more precise, the cursed statue had managed to possess one of Santiago’s servants, but Zhen Yue’s quick and unexpected application of [Chaos] managed to put a stop to that shit real quick before anything substantially bad could happen.

And just like last time, this impromptu technique of hers proved surprisingly potent.

A surge of [Chaos] blasted from Zhen Yue’s hand and destroyed the silver pagoda that was locking Flavonous in place like it was nothing more than a house of cards. At the same time, the blast of [Chaos] knocked away the cursed axe from Flavonous’s hands, freeing the man from the malevolent influence.

The axe itself was sent flying through a window that was directly to Flavonous’s right, and that window soon served to act as Zhen Yue’s and Santiago’s escape!

"Move!"

"On it!"

After performing their respective tasks, the couple proceeded to rush out of the window that they had just smashed open and make their exit from the cabin as quick as a wink.

As for the warriors they left behind, well, they were in the process of recovering.

"W-what the fuck was that?!" Capitano cursed as he circulated his aether to fix up his injured body parts and get himself back on to his feet. "No...who the fuck was that?!"

"I don’t know and I don’t care," Flavonous responded as he felt his arms recover and after briefly turning his face towards the window that his saviors exited from. "All I know is that I’m going to rip your head off instead!"

"Oh, bring it on!" Capitano fired back as he activated his [Regalia]. "That axe had already weakened you just enough for me to finish the job!"

[Lighting Claw!]

[Fortitude of the Iron Ox!]

...

BOOM!

"Oh! Looks like we don’t have to run away as fast anymore," Zhen Yue noted as she and Santiago stopped a good dozen meters away from Baron Felipe’s cabin.

From their current position, they could hear the sound of aether and fists clashing against one another, a clear sign that Flavonous and Capitano were now fighting in earnest.

The couple watched on for a few moments, idly wondering about which side was going to win...until Zhen Yue noticed something odd.

"Huh. Well, I’ll be damned."

"Huh? What’s up?"

"Check it out. That cursed axe that started this whole thing is right there," Zhen Yue pointed out.

When Zhen Yue knocked away that cursed battle-axe, she honestly had no plans or ideas as to where it was going to end up. But as luck would have it, that cursed weapon had landed about a foot away from Zhen Yue and Santiago.

"Huh...must’ve had a disguise charm on it or something beforehand, because that axe looks incredibly cursed," Santiago noted.

When it was still lodged into the fake Baron Felipe’s skull, the axe in question looked fairly standard as far as battle-axes went, with a weighted blade head and a solid wood handle that had been polished and lacquered to a fine finish.

Now that it was free and it had time to activate its inlaid curse, the battle axe now looked positively ghastly and damned.

Zhen Yue didn’t have any special eyes that could tell her the name or abilities of this foul weapon, but her instincts told her that unless she wanted to end up like how Flavonous was looking just moments ago, then she should probably avoid touching it at all costs. However, that was only if she decided to touch it without the power of [Chaos]. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

With this thought in mind, Zhen Yue started walking towards the cursed axe.

"What the—honey? What are you doing?"

"I get the feeling that his axe should probably not be returned to Capitano or whomever the fuck he’s working for, so I’m going to be doing the universe a favor by taking it for myself," Zhen Yue explained to her fiancee. "Well, not actually for me; I’m going to give it to Zhen Liu when I get the chance."

"Wait, you’re going to give it to your cousin? I thought you and him were on good terms," Santiago pointed out.

Gifting someone a cursed item was usually a pretty good indicator that there was some bad blood between the giver and the recipient. However, that only applied in most cases and definitely not in this particular case.

’Xiao Liu has a...weird affinity for cursed items," Zhen Yue explained as she began to cloak her hand in [Chaos]. "Remember that hammer I told you about? The one that looked like a skull and turned Zhen Lao a raging berserker that almost killed us?"

"Yeah..." Santiago nodded.

"For whatever reason, Zhen Liu was able to tame that thing the moment he held it in his hands. I get the feeling he’ll probably be able to do that again with this axe."

After sharing this observation with Santiago, Zhen Yue ducked down and picked up the cursed axe with a [Chaos] covered hand. As she predicted, the axe attempted to curse Zhen Yue but failed due to the [Chaos] surrounding her hand fucking up with the targetting aspect of the curse.

"Now then, let’s get home and wash away this evening’s events," Zhen Yue said. "I get the feeling we’re going to be hearing about this battle in the morning, and we should probably get ready to either play dumb or be surprised."

"Uh...okay."

Knowing full well that Zhen Yue was more experienced with this kind of thing than himself, Santiago followed along with his fiancee’s plan. However, he did make sure to ask the question that bubbled in his head as a result of following along.

"So...why do you know how to do all this?"

"When I was younger, I spent a week with Seventh Mother, Zhen Liu’s mother. She is...significantly scarier than how she presents herself."

"In...in what way?" Santiago asked, recalling that his sister’s soon-to-be mother-in-law was a rather elegant woman.

"You ever wonder why we don’t have an official torture elder in charge of interrogations? She’s why."

"Oh..."
