[Caretaker, are we done yet? I think I’m about to run out of drool here...,] the Corpse Doll quietly whined in Zhen Liu’s mind.

’Soon, Corpse Doll, soon. After this is over, I promise to get you something tasty.’

[Tasty how? Tasty sweet or tasty savory?]

’Depends, would you rather we buy it, make it, or harvest it?’

[Options make my head spin...wait...Caretaker...something feels...off...]

[I concur, Executor,] Blazejudicator piped up.[It feels like...weaponized serenity.]

...That something off...

"Hmmm. I suppose I should put an end to this now," Elder Phanra said to himself as he gazed at the surrounding madness.

Angry monkey aether beasts, and even angrier Hellfire Honeybees, were attacking unwitting hunters due to the machinations of some outside force. Technically speaking, the latter hunters had the advantage and could very well slaughter all of these attacking beasts and be done with it.

But that slaughter would take too much time, and right now, Elder Phanra couldn’t help but to feel that time was something he didn’t have enough of. As such, the Tusk Elder decided to get himself involved.

But he didn’t manifest any of his cultivation abilities.

Instead, he simply sat down in the lotus pose and began to circulate his aether in a way that caused an incredibly realistic illusion of a golden elephant and a lotus pond to manifest behind him. Once he was fully circulated and saturated, he activated a very strange aether art.

[Buddha’s Wisdom to the Elephant: Peaceful Lotus Garden.]

Paooo...

The elephant behind Elder Phanra began to release a single low note that seemed to reverberate throughout the entire camp. And as this sound continued to drone, the out-of-control camp started to become significantly more...peaceful.

"OOKIE, OOKIE! OOKIE, OOk...ie..."

"Bzzz...bzzz..."

"Whoa...I’m feeling...sleepy..."

Every nook and cranny of the hunting camp felt the reverberation of this one note, causing all who heard to enter a deep meditation.

It didn’t matter if they were man or beast, all of them began to listen and learn to the sound of the elephant disciple.

"Alright, I think that’s enough exposure."

After several seconds had passed, and most of the camp had been rendered into a meditation nap, Phanra released the elephant and lotus lake constructs back into the aether.

"It appears the elder has deemed fit to interject into our battle."

"Indeed. I wonder why?"

The only people not affected by this whole thing were Gera Strummata and Giobana Dindara.

The two of them were in the middle of fighting a particularly vicious group of aether monkeys when Elder Phanra released his ability. Technically speaking, they should’ve been affected too due to how low their cultivation was in comparison to his.

So the fact that they weren’t currently meditating on the meaning of life and how one needs to release their earthly desires to reach Nirvana, meant that Elder Phanra had an important reason for doing so.

At least, that’s what he told them after he had teleported to be directly by their sides.

"It appears the people responsible for this little prank are also in the middle of acquiring your quarry," Elder Phanra informed the duo. "I suggest you make haste, follow me and get inside of that tree hollow cavern before they leave."

Needless to say, the two scions were shocked by the news.

"But that’s impossible, we didn’t sense anybody approach the camp or the hollow," Giobana pointed out.

"And if anyone had approached, then the guards would’ve...wait a minute, you’re taking the lead here?," Gera asked.

To this query, Elder Phanra gave a very simple, yet very strange answer.

"At this very moment, I can sense two warriors of the human race inside. One is someone who I think will be of great interest to the two of you, while the other is of interest to me."

"Wait...I thought Buddhists such as yourself were above things such as desires?"

"Normally...but even the Buddha had his favorite snack."

...Now back to the hollow...

"Oi, why are you taking so long to extract those fucking cobra daggers?!," Zhen Liu hissed.

"The blades are right next to it’s fucking neck!," Lythero hissed back. "One wrong move and I’m going to definitely wake it."

Under Lythero’s guidance, Zhen Liu and the Corpse Doll proto-kaijin managed to extract four more of his masters former treasured blades.

These blades included Master Coyote’s [Trickster’s Fang Pack Kukri], Master Razorback’s [Unrelenting Piercer], Master Rabbit’s [Vorpal Scimitar] and Master Crow’s [Solar Wing Saber].

These blades were located in various and weird to reach places on the Forged Feather Dragon Vulture’s body, but we’re all pretty easy to remove once the Corpse Doll applied a couple drops of her cursed saliva.

However, such good fortune didn’t last for long.

By the time they reached the last two blades, Master Cobra’s [Devil Venom Fangs] and Master Panther’s [Midnight Slasher], the Corpse Doll was almost completely tapped of cursed saliva.

...

[Caretaker, my mouth is almost completely dried out.]

’I know, Corpse Doll, I know.’

[Can we get juice after this?]

’Yes.’

[Yay.]

...

Meaning these two last blades had to somehow be extracted with even more care and force at the same time.

"Okay, I just got to...got it."

Clatter.

"Grrr..."

"Shit!"

When Lythero pulled out the [Devil Venom Fangs], he had accidentally knocked into a surprisingly intact shield and released and echoing clatter that was a touch louder than anticipated.

This clattering sound had the unintended consequence of causing the Forged Feather Dragon Vulture to stir.

Everyone in the room bit their tongues and began to tense up like crazy as they did their best to suppress any and all noises from their bodies.

"Grrr...mmm."

"Oh thank-wait a minute."

Much to their collective relief, the Forged Feather Dragon Vulture simply readjusted their sleeping position instead of waking up entirely.

Much to their collective groaning though, the damn bird has readjusted itself in such a way that the top of their head was now directly contacting the floor of the hollow cavern.

"Great..."

In other words, the last of the Gold tiered swords was now more or less inaccessible...except for the very tip of the blade. Making the whole situation even more precarious was the fact that it was right next to the dragon vulture’s eyeball.

With the situation now being incredibly precarious, Zhen Liu, Lythero and Corpse Doll proceeded to regroup and restrategize.

New novel 𝓬hapters are published on freёwebnoѵel.com.

Well, to be more accurate, Zhen Liu and Lythero were now arguing about whether or not they should cut their losses or take a fairly huge risk.

It was fairly obvious on which side was leaning towards which.

"Look man, you already secured six out of the seven swords. If you really wanna grab it, then we can just hang around and gamble on those Erupting Dawn guys not wanting to hunt this big birdie," Zhen Liu explained his position. "That or we follow in the footsteps of our predecessors and swoop in to steal the prize at the last minute like a bunch of bastards..."

"No way, screw that," Lythero retorted. "We already came this far and I think we can get Master Panther’s sword. All we gotta do is get underneath it and just pull."

At this suggestion, Zhen Liu shot Lythero a flat look.

"What?"

"The sheer noise alone of us digging through, what I think is several centuries worth of dirt and tree roots would be enough to wake the dead. Present company excluded," Zhen Liu explained himself.

[Huh?]

"And even then, how can you be-hold up."

Before Zhen Liu could finish his retort, he suddenly sense a powerful yet tranquil aura that rubbed him in all the wrong ways. Evidently, he wasn’t the only to notice because even Lythero took on a defensive stance once he felt that aura.

"What the fuck am I sensing?"

"Ya know that old guy I asked you about earlier? I think that’s him."

"Oh we are, wait, why is this thing not reacting to this aura?"

"I don’t know, but I think we need to hide. Now."

"Agreed."

...A stupidly short amount of time later...

"Hmmm. How peculiar..."

"What is it, Gera?," Giobana asked.

"It appears Elder Phanra was right. I am detecting small, subtle disturbances of aether around us...almost as if someone was trying to float around but not outright wake something. Most unusual..."

Heeding Elder Phanra’s wisdom, Giobana and Gera decided to follow the old Buddhist as he made his way into the inner parts of the tree hollow cavern where the Forged Feather Dragon Vulture made its nest.

A part of them had expected to detect nothing and that the old monk was being paranoid, but now that they were half way there, the scion of Strummata household could clearly sense something was amiss.

Especially when they got about three quarters of the way there.

"This feeling...why is there curse aether this far in?"

"Could it be from the dragon vulture?"

"No...I recognize this type of curse..."
