’Called it.’

[Oh, this might not end well.]

...Meanwhile...

<Logos, how long until the Kaijin/Zhen Clan group makes contact with our Lord?>

=Estimated time of arrival is about a week. Maybe two if the weather sucks.=

<By the gods, he is going to stress test both his luck and his ability to survive without us there, isn’t he?>

=Yup.=

<Great...>

...Now back to the cave...

"Are you fu-MMMPH?!"

"Lower your voice!," Zhen Liu hissed as he covered Lythero’s mouth. "Or did you forget that I have a literal weakness against dragons?!"

Shortly after the duo had exited the fishing cave, they only had to walk a short distance to reach the main cavern where Lythero had buried his masters and their swords. Unfortunately, the presumed gravesite was no longer present.

Instead, the duo found the Forged Feather Dragon Vulture sleeping in a nest made of burnt bones and random bits of wood, that may have once been furniture. Evidently, the Forged Feather Dragon Vulture may have destroyed whatever meager bits of furniture were left behind when Lythero first vacated the premises all those years ago.

However, this wasn’t what made Lythero want to charge in there and choke the dragon vulture to death.

What did make him want to do that, was the fact that he could make out all seven of his masters’ blades being a part of this asshole’s collection of forged feathers.

Evidently, this might’ve been the reason why those nobles from the Erupting Dawn Empire was interested in hunting this dragon vulture in the first place.

Gold tiered aether treasures were rare in the first place, so the possibility of getting seven of them in one go was the equivalent of finding a bowling ball sized diamond in an ostrich’s stomach.

That said, there was some good news and bad news associated with this discovery.

The good news was that these swords weren’t fully integrated into the Forged Feather Dragon Vulture’s body, meaning that not only had the Forged Feather Dragon Vulture had yet to fully absorb the power of these Gold tiered swords, but that they could still technically be plucked out without much resistance. Granted, there was a chance some of them were more integrated than the others...which led directly to the bad news.

The bad news of this whole situation was that none of the blades were even remotely close to each other.

Like a fucked up jigsaw puzzle, lesser tiered blades and armor pieces were scattered across the dragon vulture’s body, spacing out the Gold tiered swords in a way that was incredibly inconvenient.

In essence, if Lythero and Zhen Liu wanted to extract those swords they had two options.

The first was to try and fight this thing to the death, pray to the heavens that they’re able to kill it faster than those Erupting Dawn guys could react and then escape like mad men with the devil nipping at their heels. It was dangerous, it was reckless and there was actually a significantly greater chance of injury since there were only three to four fighters at best with those four being incredibly weak to dragon force. On top of the fact that this thing was at fifth or sixth tier, at least, made the duo incredibly unwilling to this idea.

Well, once Zhen Liu explained the situation to Lythero at least.

"...and that’s why we can’t fight this damn thing!," Zhen Liu quietly finished. "Goddamn, I wish I could just use telepathy to explain this shit to other people."

"Then what are we supposed to do, sit on our asses and pray it molts?!," Lythero whispered back in an angry tone of voice.

"Not exactly..."

Their second option was only...slightly riskier.

As mentioned before, those Gold tiered swords weren’t fully integrated into the Forged Feather Dragon Vulture’s body, were still pluckable and the aforementioned dragon vulture was fast asleep.

Meaning…

"You want us to somehow pluck this vulture of its feathers…while it’s sleeping?," Lythero asked incredulously. "How is that different from us just picking a fight with it?!"

"Again, keep your voice down!," Zhen Liu whispered back. "And there’s a massive difference between the two. One is straight up brawling, the other at least has a chance of us getting out of here with nobody being the wiser. Have you ever gone to bed and woke up with a hair being stuck on your pillow? It’s the same logic as-actually, strike that, there’s a live example of what I mean right there!"

While Zhen Liu was in the middle of explaining his logic of plucking the bird while it slept, the Forged Feather Dragon Vulture began to stir and roll in its sleep. As it did, several metallic plates, chunks of armor and several weapons literally popped off of its body and fell into the nest.

"See?"

"Oh."

Now that he had a visual example, Lythero was significantly more on-board with the idea of plucking the dragon vulture of its most precious feathers...although, he was still a little reluctant.

"Wait, what about those zakos of yours? Can’t you just send them in to grab the swords for us?," Lythero asked.

At this question, Zhen Liu shot Lythero a flat look.

"What?"

"Remember how I said that [Chaos] doesn’t react well against dragon force?"

"Yes."

"What makes you think zakos, which are ninety percent [Chaos], would be able to get close to a dragon vulture without getting popped in the process?"

"Ah...makes sense."

Evidently, this was also the reason why Zhen Liu didn’t send Blazejudicator or the Corpse Doll over either.

Regardless, since they were the only ones qualified to do this job, Lythero and Zhen Liu proceeded to coat their bodies in aether and [Chaos], respectively, in order to muffle their footsteps and hide their presence.

While there were stealth aether arts that they could’ve employed for situations like this, neither had access to those right now.

Well, not good ones anyways.

That stated, they did manage to get right next to the Forged Feather Dragon Vulture without accidentally stepping on anything that could wake it.

However, there was now a new issue that was very specific to Zhen Liu.

"Wait...I just realized something important. I have no idea what these swords look like, and I don’t think I can just sense them either..."

Most aether treasures had an innate aura to them that made it easy for people to determine the exact quality of the treasures in question. However, this aura could be easily eclipsed by a strong enough presence.

The Forged Feather Dragon Vulture was the strongest thing in the cave right now, and made it impossible for Zhen Liu to sense the aura of the Gold tiered treasures. Thankfully, he didn’t need to.

"Okay, I’m only going over this once, so pay attention," Lythero whispered to Zhen Liu. "Huh...this is strangely novel...regardless..."

Lythero proceeded to grab Zhen Liu’s attention and directed him to the swords they were to extract, one by one.

"Okay, that large one on the back is Master Tortoise’s [Black Iron Slab]. Less of a sword and more like a giant metal plate on a stick, he would use it to defend against attacks while smashing any who stood in his way."

"That...seems oddly familiar...continue."

"Those two blades connected by a single handle, located near the vulture’s neck, is Master Cobra’s [Devil Venom Fangs]. Under his control, the blades could bend and distort in weird ways and even envenom enemies. I saw him take out an elephant with one strike with it once."

"That...makes too much sense."

"And...okay, I can’t seem to make out the rest of the swords of my masters, but that one, near the skull is the most powerful of the lot. Master Panther ’s [Midnight Slasher]."

"Most powerful?"

In Zhen Liu’s eyes, the blade in question looked like a normal long sword with a funky looking handle. Then again, looks were deceiving.

"[Midnight Slasher] is the only sword I know of that can actively manipulate Caligos aether. He used it to actively cloak himself when on the move and could be used to turn even shadows into deadly blades that could from any angle regardless of the size. If he ever needed to take down a really dangerous energy, he could absorb the surrounding darkness and quintuple the power of his attacks."

"Quintuple?"

"Well...he said that it could’ve hypothetically reach even greater heights, but that he was only able to master a fraction of its power."

"Holy shit..."

Without the informational and processing power of the [Library of Nowhere] to corroborate this information, Zhen Liu could only rely on Lythero’s words.

But even if only half of what Lythero related to him was the truth, than that meant that these blades were enough to turn Lythero into a force of nature that made his light show back in Papaya Town look like a candle.

That is...if they could secure these swords in the first place.

"Okay...then which one should we try to extract first?"
