Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die!-Chapter 2190: The Death of the Saintess
"Just a minor injury, it’s no big deal." Huang Mao laughed heartily and weighed his arm again, "Look at my arm, once it was broken into seven or eight pieces, and it recovered in less than a month. Don’t let this minor injury be such a psychological burden on yourself."
Seeing how he was downplaying things, Xu Huo smiled and said, "No need for collaboration, but I can give you some advice."
Huang Mao clapped his hands, "That’s all I need from you!"
Then he got up to help A Hai take photos.
It was two hours later when they entered the third Satellite City.
Unlike the leisure of the previous two Satellite Cities, this city was patrolled by teams of players and believers, with not only public places but also high-rises having hidden sentries, monitoring anyone in the city from various angles.
When the three of them arrived at the Divine Temple, there was a small conflict outside the Divine Hall’s Main Gate. Outer Zone players were confronting temple players, one side wanted entry, the other refused entry; it seemed they had already clashed once and tensions were escalating.
"Will you step aside!" A long-haired player pointed a prop at the people in front of the temple doors, "Sealing the temple and blocking people, you are intentionally preventing Outer Zone players from passing through!"
Players on the temple side didn’t look happy either, and the leader said, "I’ve explained several times, the temple has important matters to handle today and is temporarily not receiving believers. Believers can’t enter, so you certainly can’t enter!"
"That’s the same excuse as yesterday, what exactly do you want?" The long-haired player coldly questioned, "Regardless of what your temple is dealing with, it has nothing to do with us passing players. Open the door, we only need to get a stamp and leave. If it doesn’t work out, the number of players blocking here will only increase, let’s see how you’ll deal with that then!"
The temple side also faced pressure. Even though they weren’t overly concerned with threats, they had to consider the opinions of other believers, and the repeated provocations had already started to make some believers suspicious.
After a brief silence, the leader finally said, "I will inform the Divine Envoy of your demands, and after the Divine Envoy consults the Goddess, I will come back to tell you the result."
After speaking, he went inside through the slightly ajar door. The Outer Zone players were unwilling, attempting to rush in during the door’s opening, but the next second several of them lost control and fell limply to the ground, unable to hold even their props.
"Damn it!" the long-haired player gritted his teeth at the sight.
Obviously, they had tried more than once before. If they could get in, they wouldn’t resort to this frontal confrontation approach to force the temple to open the doors.
The square outside the temple became quiet again.
"What happened?" A Hai worriedly looked towards the temple.
At this moment Huang Mao squeezed through the crowd, lowered his voice, and said, "Let’s talk somewhere else."
Away from the crowded square, Huang Mao revealed the information he had gathered.
The cause was that the night before last, the temple, which typically wouldn’t close its doors, suddenly shut them, and asked some believers worshipping at night inside to leave, claiming that the Goddess had bestowed a divine oracle to the Divine Envoy and needed to make some preparations.
The believers happily left without protest and informed their friends and family. Therefore, the next morning, which was yesterday morning, a large group of believers gathered in front of the temple, saying they wanted to hear the divine oracle.
However, the Divine Envoy didn’t appear— the Divine Envoy really does exist, not some nonsensical non-human, and some have seen them before. With such commotion at night, believers couldn’t help feeling that this divine oracle must be very significant and would definitely require the Divine Envoy to announce it, but the Divine Envoy didn’t come out, and the temple doors remained closed, leading to suspicion.
The believers were easy to manage, but the real issue lay with the Outer Zone players. Don’t be fooled by the not-so-large number of Outer Zone players, among them were not a few stuck in the Satellite City for a long time without the Divine Envoy’s "stamp." Without the stamp, they couldn’t enter the Holy Land Goddess Temple, and if they couldn’t enter there, how could they talk about passing through?
Not knowing how long the temple doors would remain shut, the players thus grew restless.
Yesterday they somehow managed to bear it, but today the doors were still closed, the temple’s perfunctory explanations couldn’t possibly keep Outer Zone players waiting patiently, thus resulting in the earlier conflict— with the temple’s doors shut, the symbols both inside and outside the temple were particularly formidable; attempting to force the doors open or climb over the walls would result in attacks. Hence, confronting the temple people face to face seemed a relatively convenient approach.
"I’ve also heard some rumors," Huang Mao said, "that a team of local players was seen coming from elsewhere the night before, seemingly searching for someone, and then the temple doors closed."
"Some say the Holy Land Goddess Temple’s relic was lost, others say the Saintess fled, and yet others say the Goddess suddenly went missing, leaving the Divine Envoy anxiously troubled... there are many theories, quite detailed, being privately discussed by many believers."
"But I estimate it’s mostly likely those players fanning the flames."
Huang Mao crossed his arms, "Even if local players did come, the news shouldn’t have leaked out. Believers are tight-lipped; they probably intend to use these statements to incite believers to enter the temple."
Only if believers start suspecting that something is wrong inside the temple would the temple have to provide a reasonable explanation.
Xu Huo agreed with his view, at least the missing Goddess theory was problematic, as he was approached by a suspected divine presence just yesterday.
Although, there certainly were issues within this division.
Looking around, the square was filled with believers like A Hai, worried expressions on their faces, gathering together, some praying, others discussing, their conversations revolving around the Goddess and the temple. They weren’t very interested in the rumored lost relic or Saintess fleeing; mostly they were concerned about the Goddess and the Divine Envoy’s well-being, specifically the Goddess’s mood and the Divine Envoy’s health. As for anything else, they hadn’t thought that deeply.
Believers seemed unlikely to be the source of the problem, so the temple itself must be.
It wasn’t until evening that the temple doors reopened, and out walked a middle-aged man cloaked and hooded, his face shaded by the dim evening light, making it hard to discern his expression.
"Divine Envoy!" someone recognized the man.
"Divine Envoy!"
"Divine Envoy!"
...
These two words rippled across the square like waves, as if everyone needed to shout them, taking quite a while before settling down into silence.
With a slight curve at his mouth, seemingly a smile, the Divine Envoy spoke after a moment, "No need to worry, the Goddess is well."
Only eight words, but they swept away the square’s gloomy atmosphere, allowing all believers to relax. No one further pressed on why the temple closed its doors.
The believers didn’t ask, but the Divine Envoy took the initiative to explain, "A Saintess was killed."
