Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die!-Chapter 2183: Threats from the Instance
The worst part about sitting under the blossoming trees is that it’s easy to get buried. Shaking off the thick petals on the garland and his body, Xu Huo turned his wheelchair toward a place with fewer trees. However, the ground was covered in petals as well, making it inconvenient for the wheelchair to move, and it didn’t take long to get stuck.
"Let me help you." A gentle female voice sounded from behind, and then the wheelchair began to move.
"Thank you." Xu Huo indicated to the person that she could let go.
"Let’s go to the pavilion over there," the woman suggested. "There are fewer people, and the air is better."
Xu Huo did not refuse and let the woman push him over.
The woman didn’t leave either; she sat down beside him, looking at the snow-like petals swirling in the park, she smiled and said, "This is the most beautiful place in the city. Whether they are men, women, or dual-gender, everyone wears a smile and forgets their worries."
Xu Huo "looked" ahead, "That’s true."
"No one would bear to destroy such a beautiful sight," the woman suddenly shifted the topic. "Most people living here are ordinary folks. They don’t know about games and aren’t interested in instances; they simply want to live ordinary lives. But some players from the outer zone don’t think this way. Sometimes, it’s as if they’ve never seen beauty before; their first thought upon seeing it is to destroy it."
This piqued Xu Huo’s interest a little, "Generally, people would think such individuals as lacking in character, but it’s quite a novel perspective to feel sympathy for them..."
People normally harbor aversion towards stronger destroyers; if the destroyer targets them and ruins their beautiful life, aversion would escalate into hatred. Would the victims forgive the criminals because of their sympathetic upbringing?
Human nature doesn’t allow it.
The woman caught a few petals that floated into the pavilion and placed one in Xu Huo’s hand, "Feel it."
"A petal?" Xu Huo didn’t understand her intention. Then a second one was placed in his hand, and he heard the woman ask, "What do you think is the difference between these two petals?"
"No difference. They’re both petals," Xu Huo replied.
"No, there are slight differences, but these subtle differences aren’t worth delving into." The woman’s voice carried a trace of amusement.
"Are you saying, the players from the outer zone who kill, and the ordinary people from this zone, are like these two petals, with differences so small they aren’t worth examining?" Xu Huo was surprised.
The woman affirmed his guess and added, "Because essentially, they’re both petals; growing and withering like this is their entire life."
Xu Huo was left speechless. People indeed wouldn’t scrutinize the patterns on two petals, and scrutinizing them seemed to hold little significance.
"I remember there are laws in this area as well," he paused before continuing.
The woman chuckled softly, her voice so faint yet it made one uncomfortable.
"Laws are also insignificant details not worth delving into."
"According to you, doesn’t that make our conversation meaningless?" Xu Huo asked.
"It should be so," the woman carefully examined a petal that had fallen on her clothes, "but you are different."
Xu Huo’s brow slightly furrowed. Just as he was about to say something, a distant call from Huang Mao halted him. A gust of wind suddenly blew from the front, striking him with countless fallen flowers. When the wind passed, he was alone in the pavilion.
Huang Mao and two others approached, "You’re mentally okay, right? What were you muttering here alone?"
"Didn’t you see the woman beside me?" Xu Huo gestured to his right.
"No, it’s always been just you," Huang Mao looked uncertainly, then shuffled a couple of steps to the side, "Were you really talking to someone just now?"
"What are you afraid of?" Xu Huo said plainly. "Even if there was really someone you couldn’t see, it could only mean something played a trick."
"Right, right!" Huang Mao let out a hollow laugh. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Are you alright?" The three present all looked at him.
"What could happen to me?" Huang Mao switched topics, "Maybe you were disturbed and haven’t recovered, causing a hallucination."
"Perhaps." Xu Huo nodded, "The floral scent here is too strong, making people’s heads spin. Let’s change places."
With that, the group ended their visit to the park and headed to their next destination.
Huang Mao noticed that Xu Huo was low on energy, and suggested he return to the hotel to rest, but it was refused.
"You’re worried about A Hai, huh," Huang Mao said, "I won’t do anything to him. Following me despite being disabled, your determination is beyond admirable."
A Hai expressed he would be safe as long as he was in Purple Lake City because players feared the Goddess and generally wouldn’t commit crimes here.
Indeed exhausted, Xu Huo took out a robot and let it stay with A Hai, then returned to the hotel alone.
Just as he lay down on the bed, a black shadow appeared at its edge. He looked down, "You’ve been coming out more frequently lately..."
Before he finished speaking, the black shadow suddenly grabbed his ankle and violently yanked him down!
The person who was lying on the bed suddenly submerged into water, the surrounding light disappeared, endless black water quickly covered his body and closed over his head, leaving only a faint light above the surface.
It was as if he was back in Dou Shengnan’s black water. Looking at the light on the surface, Xu Huo lowered his gaze again, and the "Shadow Personality," holding his legs, happened to "look up" at him, a pair of eyes suddenly appearing on the pitch-black face!
It wasn’t a terrifying scene, but meeting those eyes, Xu Huo found himself unable to control his fear, beginning to struggle violently, kicking frantically at the person below him.
These efforts were futile, causing no harm to the "Shadow Personality." Unable to break free, he could only watch helplessly as the light on the water’s surface grew more distant...
A black materialized item pulled open his eyelids.
The sight of his child persona’s image appeared in his vision. Xu Huo sprang up, gasping for breath, only to realize he and the bed were wrapped in black materialized lines formed by spiritual power. These lines were constantly moving, gradually crawling all around the room.
Even the ceiling seemed doodled on with a black pen. He took a deep breath and gathered the spiritual power back in.
"What just happened?" Rubbing his aching head, he asked, "Is Dou Shengnan’s issue still unresolved?"
He paused after speaking, then suddenly realized, lowering his eyes with a shadow of gloom, "It’s not Dou Shengnan, it’s this instance."
"The Goddess sure knows how to intimidate others."
The child persona nudged his shoulder. As he raised his hand, the black materialized items flowed, and soon a black cube appeared on his palm.
"Dou Shengnan’s materialized item?" Xu Huo turned his head to look at his childhood self crouching by his side, "You want to give it to me?"
The child persona nodded slightly, then disappeared along with the materialized item.
