Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die!-Chapter 2070: Paper Beast Assault
"No." Xu Huo was resting with his eyes closed and only moved his mouth in response.
Fluorescent Powder wasn’t responsive, then turned to the Girl in the painting, saying: "Can you go to the bathroom to fold?"
The Girl in the painting expressed her unwillingness to go and suggested she either go herself or block her ears with something.
With the players all clustered together, Fluorescent Powder couldn’t block out the hearing. The reason she couldn’t bear it was that her hearing evolved faster than other players of the same level, which was her advantage. Unable to fight, she had to get up and change places.
Just as she stood up, she suddenly heard a strange noise from afar, like nails scraping on a hard board.
"Did you hear that?" She stopped immediately and asked the others.
After retrieving his Spatial Defense Artefact, Xu Huo opened up his Spiritual World, scanning the source of the sound with vertical pupil quickly. In less than a second, he restored his focus and quickly turned to the nearest room, "Hide!"
The other players had already placed instruments or props all over the castle, and after partially understanding the situation in the studio, they all entered the adjacent recreation room together, closed the door, and reinforced the walls and floor with defense props and instruments. Soon after, they heard dense footsteps outside. The next instant, a sharp claw ripped through the wall horizontally, taking the door panel along with it. Accompanied by a low growl, a gigantic beast head squeezed into the doorway, pressing against the Spatial Barrier, straining to look inside.
Through the cracks in the wall, everyone could see that there were many such enormous and ferocious mutant beasts emerging from the painting!
"They probably can’t see us, right?" Fluorescent Powder said nervously.
While using the defense props, they added a layer of visual obstruction, but now all the beasts emerging from the painting were surrounding the room, unwilling to leave. It’s hard to say whether they’re capturing prey through sight.
"Crack!" The first mutant beast approached, sniffed, then opened its mouth wide and bit into the outside defense barrier—actually biting into it—and even began to tear the barrier!
"This is a Rank-B defense prop. Do the animals in the painting have this kind of power?" The player with the broken defensive layer ceded his position for another player to fill in.
"One probably doesn’t have that ability, but with a crowd, who knows." Xu Huo surveyed the room; the walls were almost being dismantled, and those beasts seemed fixated on this spot, either clawing or biting, relentlessly challenging the defense barrier.
"Equivalent to prop stacking, I guess." An older man said: "Maybe they’re even more powerful under the Puppet Maker’s control."
"I’m confused. Why did everything from the paintings come out tonight? Do they want to make me break the rules? The instance introduction didn’t mention this." Fluorescent Powder couldn’t help but say.
"Maybe the castle owner just doesn’t want to make so many puppets." said the sweet girl: "This is a fixed instance, and the holder was probably a player originally. If he doesn’t want to relinquish the dungeon ownership, he must keep opening the door to welcome players, reducing player numbers this way is quite normal. Just exploiting the game’s loophole."
"You know so much?" Xu Huo glanced at her, "Do you hold the instance?"
"Would I be here if I owned the instance?" The sweet girl said: "Wouldn’t guarding the instance and killing people be more thrilling? Anyway, I’m already a Rank-B player."
"Makes sense." Fluorescent Powder chimed in, "Are we going to hold on until morning?"
The props and instruments are restricted by time usage, but fortunately, there were many of them, enough to rotate shifts.
These beasts were now hunting them down, and players could only defend. If they struck back, they might face consequences, ending up as mutilated puppets the next day.
Among them, the only one who’d dealt with props before was the Girl in the painting, and she hadn’t become a puppet yet, suggesting she wasn’t merely a ticket player but got in by chance.
Being able to fight with props and win, her strength surely isn’t weak because defensive props are nearly ineffective against these animals turned from paintings. When absolutely necessary, she could still be a free labor force for the players clearing the level.
After stepping down from her position, Fluorescent Powder handed the Girl in the painting a bag of snacks with a smile, "Sis, when those things break in later, you’ve got to cover me." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
The Girl in the painting assured she’d be fine.
The floor in this room soon couldn’t bear the strain. Xu Huo and the others, along with the beast props, fell to the first floor. For the players, it wasn’t a big problem, maintaining the original formation as they landed on the collapsed flooring without providing the beast props an opportunity.
Thirty minutes into the offensive and defensive battle, the attack of the beast props finally waned; some seemed to find it tedious and started wandering the castle, while several turned into paper sheets after toppling or tearing apart the decorative puppets and dropping back to the floor.
The group had no words, only thinking the castle master cherished his crafted puppets.
In just an hour, the beast props left, but everyone stayed on the ground floor until daylight.
Except for those beast props that touched the puppets, the others returned to the studio on the second floor. After the defensive barrier was lifted, the Girl in the painting was the first to rush over to grab those paintings, brimming with excitement, saying to Xu Huo: "I’m going to craft fierce paper beasts like these in the future!"
The Girl in the painting could control paper, and its shape roughly influenced her combat abilities. She previously made some paper frogs and so on, bringing her joy.
"How are these made?" She squatted on the floor, pondering without any conclusion, then turned back to ask Xu Huo.
"Ask the Paper Servant Master next time you encounter him." Xu Huo didn’t know, but reckoned the Puppet Maker wouldn’t show up to offer guidance.
The Girl in the painting knew who the Paper Servant Master was but didn’t quite like him, so she said: "You ask him secretly, don’t say it’s from me."
Xu Huo chuckled, rolling up the paintings and handing them to her, "Put them in the studio."
"You know the Paper Servant Master?" The sweet girl examined him, "You get along well?"
"Just average." Xu Huo said, "He’s familiar on his own, but if I died, he’d visit my grave."
"Is that just average?" Fluorescent Powder laughed, "All my relatives are dead, don’t mention visiting a grave; there’s nobody to build one for me."
"The Paper Servant Master is quite famous. In the game, there aren’t many super players like him who can mass-produce popular props," the glasses-wearing player joined in, "though many have heard his name, few have seen him."
"Really?" Xu Huo paid no attention to his probing but continued: "Is it time to find today’s puppets?"
