Chapter 265.1 - Spiritualist VS Cannibal

BGM: Aemeth – Evans Gambit

"I'm going to be eaten", That was what I thought.

To be honest, I kind of regret it. I feel like I should've just stayed lying on the grass.

But even so… I couldn't just ignore a friend in trouble just 'cause I got a bit hurt.

I know that me stepping in wouldn't change anything. Momokawa laid out the plan, everyone went in for an all-out attack, and yet Yokomichi was still totally fine. I get that it was not the kind of situation where me jumping in now gonna make any difference.

「Damn it… Is this really all my strength amounts to…?」 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Faced with Yokomichi, who had turned into an unbelievably huge and disgusting pig monster charging straight at me, all I could do was muttering those words.

My legs were trembling. My voice was shaking too.

I'm scared, scared of dying. After suffering a terrible injury and losing my right arm, the reality of death had been seared into me more than enough.

And yet, I wonder why… What scared me the most, was being completely powerless and unable to do anything when push comes to shove.

That's why I'm frustrated. I showed up in the middle of this crisis, and now I’m just gonna die without being of any real help. Sorry, Momokawa… All I could do against Yokomichi right now was to draw his attention for just a moment.

It might just be a meaningless few seconds… Bought at the cost of my life.

But please, Momokawa… Rando, Kinako, Benio, even Rem-chan, I’m counting on you to do something. Get us out of this worst-case crisis.

If you don’t, then… I wouldn’t be able to rest in peace even if I die!

『— Don't give up.』

Suddenly, a voice resounded in my head.

In front of me was a ferocious, ugly pig-like face. But that was clearly not Yokomichi’s voice.

『Don't give up. Believe in the power of your friends.』

I do believe them. That was exactly why I’m doing something like this.

『It’s okay. You already have strong enough bonds. Now, listen carefully and try to hear.————』

I've heard their voice already. Was there something I missed?

The next moment, I’d just be crushed and killed by Yokomichi, and that would be the end of my life.

Hey, the reason this moment feels weirdly slow, like a super slow-motion scene, might be because this really was the last moment of my life, right?

『————All the eight spirits are all blessing you.』

At that moment, I definitely heard it—and saw it.

Spirit. Yes, the little stickman-like creatures, that was how I call them.

Before I knew it, they were already floating right in front of me.

The fire spirit of the lighter. The water spirit of the water bottle. The lightning spirit of the smartphone.

And then, thanks to the accessories Momokawa made for me, the green wind, the orange earth, and the crystal-clear ice spirits were also with me.

Fire, water, lightning, wind, earth, and ice. The six-colored spirits spun in a circle, and two more spirits flickered at the center.

The one emitting a pure white glow was the spirit of light, the one living in Sakura-chan’s lantern.

And the other stickman, wreathed in an eerie, pitch-black mist that remains dark even when illuminated by the light, was a spirit of darkness, one of the many that appear when Momokawa used his skill.

『Now, reach out your hand and call them. Your comrades will surely answer your call————』

I didn't really get it.

I don’t know why, but… I reach out my hand, toward the mysterious ring where the eight spirits dance in a circle.

And then, I raised a warcry.

The names of my reliable comrades.

「———— Come! KINAKOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!」

Light burst forth. A dazzling radiance that overwhelmed everything, my vision, my scream, all of it.

And yet, I understood with my whole being that this light was the warm and powerful radiance emitted by countless spirits.

And then, something appeared from within that light.

ROAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR!

A fierce roar that shook me to the core, sending tremors through my very gut.

The one that came out was a monster.

A monster with a gigantic body, rivaling the width of transformed Yokomichi.

Such a huge creature suddenly appeared right in front of me, charging forward and boldly blocking the incoming Yokomichi, as if to protect me.

The huge back standing on two legs was covered in fur that emitted a faint bluish-white glow. Its widely spread arms were thick and powerful all the way to the ends, and the claws growing from its fingertips were sharp yet sparkled beautifully like crystals.

And from the head that peeked out above the pure white mane-like fur, there were rabbit-like ears stretching straight up as if piercing the sky.

It was a giant monster that I saw for the first time. But this one, there’s no doubt about it.

「Haaaaaahhh!? What the hell, you bastAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA—————AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD!」

They were pushing against each other.

Yokomichi, who was already right in front of me, suddenly collided head-on in a flashy clash with the monster that appeared out of nowhere ——— and got blasted away instead.

A massive beast resembling a giant pig rolled and tumbled away. Just how heavy was that guy? The tremor of his tumble even reached my position.

But I couldn't help but want to confirm the true identity of this guy more than worrying about where Yokomichi got blasted off.

「K-Kinako… Is that… You?」

「Pugugu… GWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!」

He replied with a ferocious cry.

The monster that turned to face me had a sharp, wolf-like face, completely unlike that round, cute, charmful mascot-like face.

「I see, so it really is Kinako.」

But I knew. Even if his appearance had changed, even if we could no longer communicate with words.

The patron god of spiritualists, huh? It told me that the new power granted by that being was what changed Kinako’s appearance.

『Blessing of the Eight Spirits』: From the primordial vortex came light and darkness. Then came fire, earth, lightning, ice, wind, and water—six primary elements that colored the world. And so, it was the blessing of the world. You have obtained the first qualification.

『Bond That Transcend Race』: It was the most precious, yet the most difficult thing to do. You must not dominate. You must not enslave. Simply walk together, that alone was enough. Weave a bond between humans and those who are not. You have obtained the second qualification.

『Summon Sacred Beast』: Spiritualist who had obtained the two qualifications, now was the time to summon the sacred beast. If your bond was true, it would answer your call, regardless of the time, and place.

Somehow, the flavor text of the spiritualist’s new power had been etched into my mind without me noticing. I didn’t feel like I actually read it properly, and I couldn’t say I truly understood what it meant either.

「Does that mean… Our bond awakened in this crisis, and Kinako underwent a major transformation, right?!」

「PUGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!」

Kinako is also saying, "That’s right, that’s right". I'm sure he was.

「Haha, you’re thoughtful, aren’t you, patron god of the spiritualist? This is the best ability I’ve ever had.」

Kinako who transformed into sacred beast was too OP.

Momokawa also said that the sacred beast used by spiritualists was really amazing creatures that could easily defeat even boss monsters.

Since Kinako had become that sacred beast now, then there was no need to hold back in the slightest.

「GO KINAKO! KICK HIS AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASS!」

===

「———— I don't know what happened, but let's use this chance.」

A deafening roar echoes as the two massive monsters clash like a scene straight out of a kaiju battle.

One of them was Yokomichi who transformed into a giant pig-like monster due to the effect of 『Re: Monster』.

The other was Kinako, who has apparently become a bear sacred beast.

Sacred Beast Kinako, now noble and powerful, far removed from his original form, was going head-to-head with the fully serious Yokomichi.
