Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 772 - 771: Making Sun Wukong Apologize
This makes sense, but it is still necessary to educate those who need to be educated.
Guanyin said to Xuanzang, "He is your disciple, and he has traveled many places with you on this journey. You must have gotten to know a bit about his temperament by now. Also, the Tightening-Crown Spell I taught you was not intended for you to force him to admit to things he didn’t do."
Xuanzang admitted that he was wrong and bowed to apologize, "I indeed did not consider this matter thoroughly. I have learned my lesson and will certainly reform in the future."
Bodhisattva Guanyin nodded and then turned her gaze to Chen Nuo.
A moment ago, Xuanzang said it was this person who used a strategy and then drew out the words of the Six-Eared Macaque?
If that’s true, then even if this person is just an ordinary mortal, his intelligence is exceptional. We should see if he has any intention of joining Buddhism. Such a talented individual truly should be recruited into Buddhism.
Chen Nuo had already noticed that Bodhisattva Guanyin was observing him. He heard the thoughts of Bodhisattva Guanyin and was at a loss for words.
How badly does Buddhism need people? Previously, when he was impersonating Tian Peng, Bodhisattva Guanyin had already invited him once. Now even after changing his identity, he still caught the attention of Bodhisattva Guanyin.
He hoped she wouldn’t come for him. He had already planned to leave, but then in a moments of confusion, he didn’t know what he was thinking, staying another day at Grand Immortal Zhenyuan’s behest and then Bodhisattva Guanyin took notice of him.
Although Bodhisattva Guanyin had the intention of inviting this gentleman to join Buddhism, she knew that the time was not right. Moreover, she was there to request that Grand Immortal Zhenyuan release the Six-Eared Macaque.
There was currently no opportunity to speak with this mortal. She would wait until there was a chance to ask him if he was interested in joining Buddhism. For now, the priority was to have Grand Immortal Zhenyuan release the Six-Eared Macaque from his Sleeve Universe.
"Grand Immortal Zhenyuan, this monkey undoubtedly lacks discipline. Let’s do this: you release him first, and then let me teach him. He might be mischievous, but that is his nature. I believe that with proper guidance, he can surely walk the right path," said Bodhisattva Guanyin.
"Bodhisattva Guanyin, whether or not he walks the right path has nothing to do with me. But he stole and ate my Ginseng Fruit, and even intended to strike me. Isn’t that going a bit too far?" Grand Immortal Zhenyuan said.
"As for the fruit, my Cleansing Bottle can only regenerate the one that fell into the soil. As for the one he ate, you’ve had him locked up for so many days, doesn’t that make up for it?" Bodhisattva Guanyin said.
"That might indeed compensate for him eating the fruit. However, his intention to hit me is another matter," Grand Immortal Zhenyuan said, "I’m still not over him trying to hit me. Bodhisattva Guanyin, if you insist on me releasing him now, isn’t that being a little too biased in his favor?"
Bodhisattva Guanyin did not expect Grand Immortal Zhenyuan to decline giving face to her request, but it was understandable. Being challenged time and again by a monkey would test anyone’s patience, especially for an esteemed Great Immortal like Zhenyuan, who would be even less likely to tolerate it.
Nevertheless, she had to give face to Grand Immortal Zhenyuan, and the monkey had to be released, so she softened her tone and asked, "In that case, what would you like to do?"
"I don’t really want to do anything," shrugged Grand Immortal Zhenyuan. "But since he did something wrong, he should at least apologize to me. I don’t ask for much, only that he kneels and apologizes to me after coming out, and then I’ll forgive him."
As soon as Master Zhenyuan’s voice fell, the monkey shouted from within the Qiankun Sleeve, "Forget it. Expecting me to apologize is simply impossible. You are clearly petty. If you were a bit more magnanimous, and had taught your disciples to be the same, none of this would have happened. Anyway, you want my life, but an apology, don’t even think about it!"
The Bodhisattva Guanyin really wanted to seal that monkey’s mouth directly, he really could say anything. This matter was originally the monkey’s fault, taking without asking is considered theft, and yet he had the audacity to be so arrogant after stealing someone’s fruit, it was utterly excessive.
And it wasn’t just that, with the little cultivation he possessed, he also fancied he could defeat Master Zhenyuan. One didn’t know whether to say he was a calf that did not fear the tiger or if he had become too tiger-like himself.
"Sun Wukong, you have committed such a mistake, and Grand Immortal Zhenyuan asking you to kneel and admit your fault is already very benevolent," Bodhisattva Guanyin persuaded.
"And if you wish to be esteemed by Master Zhenyuan, you should quickly follow Tang Monk to protect him on his Journey to the West for Scriptures, your cultivation will naturally increase greatly. Otherwise, if you still wish to eat those Ginseng Fruits, you will just continue stealing and robbing like now."
Six-Eared Macaque stopped talking. Who doesn’t want to be highly regarded by others? But his enlightenment was not profound, and it was impossible for him to reach the top like others with talent alone.
So the shortcut of protecting Tang Monk on the Journey to the West to achieve Buddhahood was most suitable for him, but nobody had told him that the process would be so difficult. He had only followed for a short time, and he had already lost all patience.
Thinking about the long road ahead, the Six-Eared Macaque really felt that the future was utterly dark. Even if light awaited at the end, the pitch-black journey was also harrowing.
"Wukong, just hurry and apologize to the Master," Xuanzang also urged., "It’s just an apology, and then Grand Immortal Zhenyuan will release you."
"As your master, I was indeed a bit reckless before, forcing you to admit to things you hadn’t done. That was my fault. Once you’re out, I’ll apologize to you, but first, you need to come out."
Hearing Xuanzang apologize, the Six-Eared Macaque hesitated.
Just a moment ago, he really wanted to stay in this Qiankun Bag till death, but hearing Xuanzang apologize, he truly started to waver.
Previously, he thought his master couldn’t distinguish right from wrong, and was concerned only about his own face. Following such a master on the journey for scriptures, what could he learn?
But after hearing Xuanzang apologize, the Six-Eared Macaque suddenly felt that the road ahead might not be so difficult to walk. After all, humans always make mistakes, and since his master could admit his own errors, perhaps he could too.
Master Zhenyuan was still waiting for the Six-Eared Macaque to reply. He wasn’t disregarding Bodhisattva Guanyin’s face; it was truly the monkey who had first disrespected him.
"Bodhisattva Guanyin, it seems that the monkey truly has no intention of apologizing. Perhaps you should go back. It’s just a monkey. There are many monkeys on the mountains nearby; you can capture one, and see if any have higher spiritual sense. Pick one, then have him accompany Tang Sanzang to the Western Heaven for scriptures," Master Zhenyuan suggested.
Hearing such words, Xuanzang panicked a bit and quickly said to the Six-Eared Macaque, "Wukong, I know you’re really a good kid. You didn’t truly mean to fight the Master. It was just a moment of anger getting the better of you. Quickly write an apology to the Master, ask for his forgiveness, and once he forgives you, we can continue our journey to the West for Scriptures!"
