Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 770 - 769: Imprisoning Sun Wukong
Xuanzang was no fool, he knew that this monastery’s master would never truly punish him; he was now using the Bodhisattva Guanyin and himself to threaten the master.
After all, he only had this one disciple, whom he would surely encounter so many monsters with along the way. Relying solely on himself, he could never reach Western Heaven; surely, his disciple would have to accompany him.
If the disciple didn’t go, then he, as a master, definitely couldn’t leave either.
Besides, the Six-Eared Macaque had only stolen two Ginseng Fruits, and for these two fruits, the master actually contemplated punishing him with his disciple’s life—this was undeniably too severe.
Master Zhenyuan was somewhat angry, if at first he hadn’t felt much, by now he had confirmed that the monk was indeed threatening him. His audacity was too great, daring to threaten him—perhaps he really didn’t know how to write the word ’death’?
There stood Xuanzang, neither servile nor overbearing, waiting for Master Zhenyuan to respond. Seeing such a Xuanzang, Master Zhenyuan was truly furious, not just because the monk threatened him, but also because he was genuinely unable to do anything about the monk.
If it were said that the monk was indeed nothing to fear, the power behind him was not simple; Heaven and Buddhism were behind him. If he really killed this monk here, both Buddhism and the Heavenly Realm would seek him out. Although it might not cost him his life, it would surely be a very troublesome matter.
But to be threatened in such a manner, if he didn’t do something about it, he wouldn’t be able to get over this internal hurdle.
Master Zhenyuan, with a burst of anger, used his ultimate move, the Sleeve Universe, intending to capture Xuanzang inside it, but was stopped by Chen Nuo.
"Master, don’t be angry. If you truly capture this monk, I fear endless troubles will follow," said Chen Nuo.
"He says he’s going to the Western Heaven for Scriptures, so there must be someone supporting him on his Journey to the West. Moreover, his disciple merely ate two Ginseng Fruits, and although he thought of cutting down the tree, he didn’t actually do it, did he? If you really want to capture this monk now, I don’t think it’s a very sensible action."
Master Zhenyuan was indeed in a rage just now, but after hearing Chen Nuo’s words, he gradually calmed down.
Indeed, just being threatened and then wanting to capture someone was indeed somewhat inappropriate and overreacting. Even though he was not afraid of Bodhisattva Guanyin, if he captured both master and disciple over such a trivial matter, it would really be making a mountain out of a molehill.
"Mr. Chen speaks wisely. It is I who considered this matter imprudently, only taking my anger into account without thinking of anything else. You’re right, if I were to capture this monk now, it would indeed lead to endless troubles." Master Zhenyuan smiled gratefully at Chen Nuo.
The two spoke in quiet tones, so Xuanzang had no idea what they were saying.
Master Zhenyuan composed himself, then looked at Xuanzang, "Here’s the deal, you stay here for a few days. Your disciple ate my Ginseng Fruits, so a punishment is indeed due. Let him spend a few days in my Qiankun Bag to reflect. Once I’ve cooled off, I’ll naturally let him out."
Having done wrong, one must face punishment. Xuanzang nodded without saying anything more.
Xuanzang remained at this place for five or six days, but the master showed no sign of wanting to release his disciple, and due to the previous threat, the master didn’t think highly of him.
He didn’t visit him, nor did he summon him for a talk; he just let him stay alone in the room, though he didn’t skimp on his food and drink.
A few days ago, Xuanzang was still able to recite scriptures in his room, and then he became restless, as there was nothing he could do. He always had the feeling that he was wasting his time, which made every second feel like an eternity; he was never comfortable, no matter what he did.
On the seventh day, Xuanzang could no longer bear it. He walked toward the main hall where Master Zhenyuan was usually found, just in time to see Master Zhenyuan and Chen Nuo having tea, discussing Taoism with ease.
Guided by Qingfeng, Xuanzang approached and said, "Master, seven days have now passed, should my disciple not be released? I understand the loss of the Ginseng Fruit is a serious matter, but the scripture-seeking cannot be delayed. Perhaps, Master, you could release my disciple first, and once we return from our Journey to the West for Scriptures, I will send him back here to accept his punishment. What do you think, Master?"
"Tang Sanzang, as I recall, I said I would keep this monkey locked up until I have calmed down, didn’t I?" Master Zhenyuan said with a feigned smile.
"It has indeed been seven days, but I have not yet calmed down. Since I am still angry, I cannot release him. Why don’t you wait a few more days? When I have calmed down, I will naturally release him. What’s the hurry?"
How could this not make someone anxious? Xuanzang felt helpless; he had no idea when the Master would calm down and feared that if his disciple was not released soon, the Journey to the West for Scriptures would truly be delayed.
Sighing, Xuanzang said, "Amitabha, Master, indeed my disciple was in the wrong, but this..."
"Enough, enough, Tang Sanzang. Are you trying to use the Bodhisattva to pressure me?" Master Zhenyuan interrupted Xuanzang, speaking impatiently.
Master Zhenyuan had guessed correctly; after all, the scripture-seeking quest could not be delayed even for a moment. The longer Xuanzang stayed, the more uneasy he became. If invoking the Bodhisattva could have any effect, he certainly would have mentioned it a second time.
"Master, I think what this elder says makes sense. Why not release his disciple? Didn’t he just say that when he returns from the scripture-seeking, he will come back to apologize to you?" Chen Nuo suggested.
Because Chen Nuo had timely informed him that the Six-Eared Macaque was gone, enabling Master Zhenyuan to save his tree, he took seriously whatever Chen Nuo said or suggested.
"Well, then, since Mr. Chen says so, I shall release this monkey," Master Zhenyuan conceded.
Xuanzang quickly bowed to Chen Nuo, "Thank you, Mr. Chen."
"It’s nothing, just a small effort. In the future, remember to discipline your disciple properly," Chen Nuo advised.
"Mr. Chen is right. I will certainly discipline my disciple well and ensure he does not commit such acts again," Xuanzang promised.
Master Zhenyuan opened the Qiankun Bag and released the Six-Eared Macaque, then put away the Qiankun Bag as soon as the Six-Eared Macaque emerged.
"You have been locked up for so many days; surely, you must have learned to behave?" Master Zhenyuan said, looking at the Six-Eared Macaque.
Without speaking, the Six-Eared Macaque remained silent. To ask if he had reflected during this time, indeed he had, but not on what he had done wrong. Instead, he contemplated what he should have done before.
