Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 365: Milk Tea
"It’s not that I don’t want to make money," Chen Nuo smiled, "it’s just that I can’t spare the time. After all, cooking is not the same as selling goods; people are buying the craftsmanship. Right now, I’m already so busy that if I were to promote it widely, I’m afraid I would end up only cooking day and night, without rest."
Chen Nuo was innately very handsome, and now, with the enhancement of his cultivation, his temperament had improved significantly.
Even Nuwa, who was used to seeing beautiful faces, couldn’t help but be dazzled by his smile when she saw someone like Chen Nuo.
"You do have a point there," Nuwa nodded, agreeing with Chen Nuo’s words, "Although your apprentice’s cooking is quite good, it falls short compared to yours."
"He has only been learning for a few years," Chen Nuo knew that Sun Wukong’s culinary skills were already quite impressive since he had personally taught him, though indeed they were not on par with his own.
"It won’t be much longer. After a few more years of learning and he becomes a master chef, his skills will certainly have improved significantly from now."
Nuwa had intended to use a technique of praising by first criticizing to compliment Chen Nuo, but she didn’t expect Chen Nuo to be so modest, which somewhat made her seem meaner.
So she quickly tried to make amends, "But your apprentice Sun Wukong’s cooking skills are not bad now. He’s the main chef for the entire Buddhist banquet. If it weren’t for having tasted your cooking beforehand, his dishes would definitely be considered top-notch."
"Thank you for your praise," Chen Nuo smiled, "It’s just giving him some opportunities to practice, after all, one can’t just learn from books alone, right?"
Nuwa laughed along with Chen Nuo’s smile, "It is I who should thank you, not only for letting me taste such delicious dishes but also for awakening my Divine Skills. When I have time, I’ll tell my brother about this, and I’ll get him to try your cooking as well."
Chen Nuo gave Nuwa a modest nod, "Thank you for your kind words."
"No, no, no thank you," Nuwa’s cheeks turned slightly red, and she remembered the previous mention of ’Master’s wife’ by Sun Wukong. Although at the time, she had only answered in a huff, now seeing the real Chen Nuo, Nuwa thought to herself that it might not be such a bad thing to truly become the ’Master’s wife’ of that monkey.
"Ding! Detecting an increase in Nuwa’s goodwill towards the host. Would the host like to activate Divine Sense?"
Chen Nuo was thinking about letting Nuwa try his Enlightenment Milk Tea, considering that milk tea is usually more popular with women, and giving Nuwa a taste might also help with improvements. He hadn’t expected the system to suddenly come up with this notification.
He glanced at Nuwa and their eyes met. Since he hadn’t activated his Divine Sense, he didn’t notice anything amiss, but with the system mentioning it, he felt like he could indeed see some different emotions in Nuwa’s gaze, probably because of the dishes he had made. Chen Nuo thought it wasn’t the first time someone admired him for his cooking skills.
"No, I won’t activate it," Chen Nuo replied, "But since when do you track goodwill? You didn’t mention that before, did you?"
"As Goddess Nuwa’s Divine Skills have awakened, you chose to synchronize, so naturally, I would also initiate different services. Software needs to be updated, you know," the system responded with an emotionless voice, its attempt at humor falling flat.
Chen Nuo rolled his eyes silently, then after a moment’s thought, he asked again, "Is it free?"
"Each activation consumes a hundred Merit Points."
"To hell with that, turns out it’s not permanent, and you charge per use," he cursed.
"It can be permanent. Would you like to activate it permanently for one million Merit Points?"
"No way, no way, get lost," Chen Nuo cursed in response.
"Shopkeeper Chen, I heard from Sun Wukong that your Peach Blossom Wine here is limited in quantity. My subordinate Xuan Feng quite likes it. If you are considering mass production, is there any way I can help?" Nuwa forced down the flush on her face and tried to find another topic.
"Thank you for the offer," Chen Nuo refused, "I’m planning to launch a few new beverages, haven’t started on them yet, but will put them on the shelf once the process is perfected."
"New beverages?" Nuwa’s interest was piqued. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"This is the Enlightenment Milk Tea I’ve just developed."
With a wave of his hand, Chen Nuo conjured a tall, cylindrical cup in front of Nuwa.
"Is this the Enlightenment Milk Tea?"
Goddess Nuwa looked at the tall cylindrical cup before her with some surprise. She was used to extremely luxurious cups, and she wondered if something that didn’t look very impressive could really taste good.
Without using his Divine Sense, Chen Nuo noticed Nuwa’s disbelief. He didn’t plan to explain; after all, seeing is believing. Besides, it wasn’t the first time his claims had been doubted. However, he was particularly confident because not a single girl could resist milk tea, not even Goddess Nuwa.
Nuwa picked up the cup, which had some weight to it, heavy with the full serving of milk tea inside. However, the top was sealed, completely hiding the contents from view.
With her delicate jade-like hand, she shook the milk tea cup gently. The liquid inside swayed with the motion, but not a drop spilled out.
Nuwa didn’t want to show any sign of weakness in front of Chen Nuo, so she started to examine the vessel containing the milk tea more carefully.
The cup felt like paper to the touch; how peculiar, a paper cup holding a full cup of liquid without leaking. What in the world was this?
Chen Nuo found Nuwa’s actions somewhat amusing and silently activated his Divine Sense. He was really curious to hear what the goddess was thinking.
"He seems to be watching me," Nuwa thought. "Could it be that he finds the look of ignorance on my face amusing? Ignorant humans, if he dares to mock me for this, I’ll definitely turn his Chaos Residence upside down."
"Pfft, cough cough."
Chen Nuo couldn’t help but laugh out loud, but he covered it up with a cough to not be too obvious.
Nuwa lifted her head and gave him a glance. "What are you laughing at?"
"I’m not laughing," Chen Nuo replied, "I’ve been cooking for too long, my throat’s a bit uncomfortable."
"Really?" Nuwa expressed her doubt.
"Really," Chen Nuo nodded vigorously.
So Nuwa lowered her head and continued to study the cup.
Unaware that Chen Nuo could hear her thoughts, she internally complained, "If I’m not mistaken, this rascal was definitely mocking me just now. No way, I refuse to believe it. I, the grand Goddess Nuwa, a Saint of the heavens and earth, can’t be stumped by a mere cup."
Nuwa’s inner thoughts were nothing like her outward appearance.
Chen Nuo found this Divine Skill to be quite useful as it allowed him to see the inner feelings of others that differed from their external appearance.
The outer appearance of a proud and beautiful goddess, yet inside she was not much different from an ordinary young girl in television dramas; Chen Nuo found her quite endearing.
While studying the cup, Nuwa also used her peripheral vision to secretly observe Chen Nuo. She didn’t dare to make her study too obvious, as it would be quite demeaning.
It was hard to believe that the dignified Goddess Nuwa was being baffled by a simple cup, and even harder to believe that she was genuinely confused by it.
At first, Chen Nuo just wanted to tease her a bit, as even Immortals hadn’t seen a milk tea cup with a straw. It was normal to be confused about how to drink from it at first. He decided to give Nuwa a way out, as it wouldn’t be good to truly annoy her.
"Here, drink with this." Chen Nuo took out a drinking straw and handed it to Nuwa.
"Use this?" Nuwa took the straw, still unsure how to drink from it. "How do you use this?"
"Like this." Chen Nuo took the cup from Nuwa’s hand and used the straw to pierce through the paper seal on the top.
