Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 320: The First Time Delivering Takeout to the Heavenly Court
"Let’s see then!" The Roc Demon King was completely at ease, now that he found himself on a footing of Innate Invincibility, he couldn’t even figure out how he could possibly lose!
In the Heavenly Court, at the Diligence Hall.
"You’re saying the delivery guy is from the Demon Clan?" Haotian, having ordered his meal, spoke in a cheerful mood.
"To report to Your Majesty, it is the Gold Winged Great Roc and the Roc Demon King." Gold Star Taibai replied with a beaming smile.
Today, His Majesty was treating him, and the Breath of Gengjin he received as payment had put him in an extremely good mood.
"Who would have thought that Shopkeeper Chen could actually tame these two demons?" Haotian was rather surprised.
The Roc Demon King had a fearsome reputation within the Demon Clan. He was one of the emerging powerhouses among them, and his father was none other than the old Quasi-Saint level powerhouse Demon Master Kunpeng. The Demon Clan’s current standing was formidable, indeed, not easily trifled with.
And the Gold Winged Great Roc had also submitted to Buddhism, with his brother, the Quasi-Saint powerhouse Kong Xuan, being particularly troublesome with his mastery of the Five-colored Divine Light.
Even if it were Haotian himself trying to subjugate these two demons, the aftermath would feel thorny; truly, Shopkeeper Chen was something else!
"They’re doing this willingly, aren’t they?" said Haotian out of the blue.
Gold Star Taibai didn’t respond immediately but took a moment to recall, then nodded in astonishment, "Your Majesty truly has divine foresight! How did you know that’s the case?"
He noticed that, far from showing a hint of the typical brutality of the Demon Clan, these two demons were actually quite enthusiastic about their delivery jobs.
He had never encountered such high-quality treatment from a great demon king of the Demon Clan before.
"Nonsense," Haotian rolled his eyes.
Shopkeeper Chen’s cooking was nothing short of miraculous, not only was it immensely enjoyable, but it also came with a chance of awakening Divine Skills!
If it weren’t for his position as the Jade Emperor of the Heavenly Court and being too busy with affairs to get away, he would have gone too!
For these two from the Demon Clan to be able to work under Shopkeeper Chen was a tremendous opportunity indeed!
However, Haotian’s eyes flashed with a thought, considering they were from the Demon Clan.
With a thought, Haotian produced two tokens and tossed them to Gold Star Taibai.
"Take these and wait at the South Heavenly Gate. If they come, give this to them," Haotian instructed.
Gold Star Taibai hurriedly caught them, looking at the tokens in his hands in bewilderment.
"Your Majesty, what are these for?" asked Gold Star Taibai, puzzled.
Hearing this, Haotian was quite speechless, wondering how after all this time serving him, Gold Star Taibai could still lack such basic understanding.
"Those two are from the Demon Clan! Without a Passage Order, do you want them to cause a commotion at the South Heavenly Gate?"
In all Buddhism’s scheming, they hadn’t managed to let Sun Wukong wreak havoc; it would be a joke if the ones sent by Shopkeeper Chen to deliver meals were to make a scene instead.
Indeed!
Hearing Haotian’s words, Gold Star Taibai suddenly understood, and with a swish of his horsetail whisk, he said cheerfully, "Your Majesty has thought of everything, this humble official admires you!"
This time Haotian didn’t acknowledge the flattery, but instead waved his hand and dismissed him, "Be quick about it, they’ll be arriving soon!"
"Yes!"
In Buddhism, at the Great Thunderclap Monastery’s secret chamber, Tathagata sat cross-legged upon the Treasure Lotus, holding his breath and concentrating. He had begun his Closed-Door Cultivation to comprehend the Power of the Saint immediately after leaving Zixiao Palace.
It must be said, the Saint truly lived up to their name. Just one aspect of their power was so profound.
Yet, even being at the very peak of near-Quasi-Saint level, he still couldn’t grasp much of it.
Between a Saint and a Quasi-Saint was a qualitative transformation; Tathagata had overestimated his own strength!
Tathagata ceased his meditation and heaved a deep sigh. He had thought he could, at the very least, hold his own even against a Saint, but even just the aura of Saint Zhunti was incredibly oppressing to him.
He had considered himself second only to the Saint, but the mysterious figure behind that monkey was like a fishbone stuck in his throat.
He was caught between a rock and a hard place.
Just as Tathagata was lost in thought, a woman’s voice suddenly sounded from outside the chamber.
"To report to the Buddha Ancestor, the preparations for the Dharma Feast are ready."
The woman outside the secret chamber was draped in a white gauze, with a compassionate and benevolent appearance. She held the Jade Clean Bottle in one hand, a willow leaf naturally protruding from the mouth of the bottle.
It was none other than Guanyin.
"When will that monkey come?" Tathagata once again regained his usual calm, his Buddha’s voice winding gently through the air.
"Tomorrow."
Tomorrow, huh?
A weight settled in Tathagata’s heart, the moment had finally arrived. After pondering briefly, he spoke again, "Are you sure everything is arranged properly?"
Outside the secret chamber, Guanyin nodded respectfully, "Everything is prepared."
"Every nook and cranny of Spirit Mountain is already set with arrays; even if that monkey has the ability to reach the skies, he won’t be able to escape with wings!" Guanyin declared solemnly, her eyes resolute.
If Tathagata was the schemer, then she was the executor.
Despite the Journey to the West requiring her direct involvement, she would receive a substantial reward after its conclusion. There was even a great possibility that she might use the opportunity to break through to the Quasi-Saint level.
However, up to now, each of their plans for the Journey to the West had failed, and it had been incredibly frustrating!
This time, she had gone to great lengths to make the arrangements for success.
"Good," Tathagata nodded, Spirit Mountain was the foundation of Buddhism, home to countless Buddhas.
He didn’t believe that any mishap could occur when subduing the monkey in his own territory.
"Buddha Ancestor," Guanyin began, a touch of worry crossing her face.
"What else is there?"
"If that person behind the scenes were to appear, what then?" Guanyin ventured cautiously. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Whoever had taught that monkey to be so strong, that mysterious person, she admitted was beyond her.
She had disciples of her own, and yet by comparison, they fell short by leagues!
"This matter, I have my ways of handling it. You all just need to prepare as usual," Tathagata said calmly, without providing details.
The Power of the Saint was a secret not to be casually deployed; if it could remain unused and preserved for further enlightenment, it would be ideal.
Although Tathagata knew that possessing the Power of the Saint meant he was under the watchful eyes of Saint Zhunti, what did that matter? He stood to gain much more from it.
Yet, should that mysterious person appear, he would not hesitate to eliminate them outright with the Power of the Saint!
"You may leave," Tathagata spoke again, issuing the command for her to be dismissed, as he had further enlightenment to pursue!
"This disciple takes her leave," Guanyin said respectfully, nodding and turning to go.
With such assurance, she felt considerably more at ease.
Looking up toward the direction of the Heavenly Court, Guanyin sighed lightly, hoping that there would be no complications this time.
If it continued to be so draining and vexing, she would be better off focusing on her intense cultivation as a path to becoming a Quasi-Saint.
Meanwhile, at the Heavenly Court, Gold Star Taibai, holding two tokens, urged his cloud toward the South Heavenly Gate.
"Oh, isn’t this Elder Immortal? What’s the occasion, yet another official errand to the Lower Realm?" Demon King Mo Lishou greeted the newcomer warmly as he saw him approaching.
Gold Star Taibai was well-liked; the immortals of the Heavenly Court almost never showed him a displeased face, and as a confidant of the Jade Emperor, the four Heavenly Kings guarding the South Heavenly Gate never obstructed his descent to the Lower Realm.
"Not descending this time, this old man is just fetching some takeaway for His Majesty," Gold Star Taibai said with a bow and a smile as he flew near.
"Takeaway?" Mo Lishou scratched his head, clearly baffled, "What’s that?"
"Elder Immortal Taibai, what are you talking about?"
Gold Star Taibai kept shaking his head with a smile, his long beard swaying in the wind: "Mustn’t say, mustn’t say."
Mo Lishou: "..."
This elder immortal, always speaking in riddles!
