Journey to the West: I have Nine Golden Crows Inside Me-Chapter 1799: "The Human Race’s Betrayal Dilemma"
Chapter 1799: "The Human Race’s Betrayal Dilemma"
It feels good to slap King Wu’s face in front of outsiders, but what is lost is the face of the Human Race. After all, the Human King represents the face of the Human Race to outsiders.
Criticizing him privately is fine, but you cannot humiliate King Wu in front of outsiders.
"The Demon Clan once proclaimed that our Human Race in the Immortal World must submit to them, offering tens of thousands of boys and girls, along with tens of thousands of adult men, for their enjoyment every day."
"Otherwise, the Human Race will have no place in the Immortal World."
Not only are the powerful from various races afraid of Jiang Chen, but the strong ones from the Human Race in the Immortal World fear Jiang Chen even more.
After all, they understood their relationship with Jiang Chen. When Jiang Chen asked them, they couldn’t remain silent.
Eventually, a young strong member of the Human Race disclosed the conditions set by the Demon Clan.
"Tens of thousands of boys and girls, along with tens of thousands of adult men, the Demon Clan sure has a big appetite."
Glancing at the nearby Demon Clan powerhouses, Jiang Chen continued to ask, "Who has agreed to these terms?"
"No one agreed!"
"Though our ideas differ from yours, we would never betray the Human Race by sacrificing our people for survival."
Before anyone else could speak, King Wu, who had been feigning ignorance, promptly answered.
Since Jiang Chen had asked, he had to respond. If anyone said the wrong thing, the death toll would be in the thousands, not just one or two.
The dispute between him and Jiang Chen was ideological. However, offering boys, girls, and adult members to the Demon Clan was a matter of principle.
When the Human Race was at its weakest, no one dared do such a thing, offering boys, girls, and adult members to the Demon Clan for survival.
Now, the Human Race has become the protagonist of Heaven and Earth, arguably the strongest race in the world. Yet, under these circumstances, someone agreed to the Demon Clan’s demand, voluntarily offering boys and girls.
If this got out, the entire Human Race would be shamed, and even the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors would be enraged. Anyone responsible for such an act, regardless of who they are, would have no place to hide.
One could even say that even having this thought, without acting on it, would be deserving of death.
King Wu was worried that someone might make a wrong statement, leading Jiang Chen to mistakenly think that some leaders of the Human Race in the Immortal World were inclined to agree with the Demon Clan’s proposal, unleashing a massacre, hence he spoke first to prevent the situation from escalating.
"I still trust the Human King."
"But as for the people under the Human King, it’s hard to say."
Jiang Chen believed King Wu would never commit such an act, but he didn’t trust his subordinates as much.
The Demon Clan and various races had come to threaten, yet they hadn’t intervened; their attitude was obvious. Even if they didn’t want to side with the Demon Clan, subconsciously, they didn’t want to be enemies.
"Your Majesty, it’s a misunderstanding!"
"Earlier, we were just joking with the Human Race; we never really meant to demand boys and girls."
Realizing they were in deep trouble, a strong Demon Clan member seized the chance to explain feebly. This demon evidently had hope, wishing to deceive and pass the ordeal.
However, his companions knew that they were unlikely to escape this calamity. Thus, he did not argue but cast a resentful glance at the strong members from numerous clans beside them and loudly proclaimed:
"Your Majesty, please discern clearly. We did not intend to be enemies with the Human Race; it’s all due to the provocation by the various races, often using the Human Race as bait, and exerting pressure using the name of the Master of the Heavenly Palace."
"In such a repeated manner, we failed to resist temptation, committing grave mistakes."
This strong Demon Clan member obviously realized he wouldn’t survive, hence adopted the attitude of dragging someone down with him, implicating the multitude of clans.
And what he said was true. Without provocation from the various races, even if they’d attacked the Human Race, they wouldn’t have been so blatant.
"Your Majesty, such a thing never happened!"
"The feud between the Demon Clan and the Human Race is widely known. Their revenge against the Human Race is entirely their own idea, nothing to do with us."
"Our race was also coerced by them, which is why we came along to threaten the Human Race."
The strong members from numerous races panicked and hurriedly explained.
"The Demon Clan has a feud with the Human Race, but you varied clans don’t?"
The Demon Clan member retorted.
Before Jiang Chen could speak, both parties had started blaming each other to shirk responsibility.
"Taiyi is a sworn enemy of our Human Race. Nowadays, the Master of the Heavenly Palace supports the Human Race in the Immortal World while collaborating with Taiyi. What does the Human King think?"
Jiang Chen couldn’t be bothered with them but continued to look at King Wu, questioning him.
He had to clarify King Wu’s stance. Never before had a Human King betrayed the Human Race; if King Wu dared be the first, the impact would be enormous.
Though Jiang Chen didn’t believe King Wu would betray the Human Race, his belief didn’t matter; King Wu had to feel it too. Moreover, due to the gravity of the matter, he had to get to the bottom of it.
If King Wu truly harbored thoughts of betraying the Human Race, Jiang Chen would kill him before any substantial actions were taken.
Though no Human King has ever betrayed the Human Race, many have died at their own people’s hands. The first example was Chiyou, who fell by the hand of Emperor Xuanyuan.
After that, it seemed cursed; frequently, Human Kings ended up killing each other.
Things often turn out absurdly; as long as something hasn’t happened, it won’t happen. But once the first case appears, soon a second and third will follow...
