Chapter 101: Just this once.

’ That being said, The Old man’s still a difficult opponent to get one over on.’ Lucuis said to himself, his muscles tense, ready to spring forth if the opportunity arrived. Rugbeard was a master, at least to him he was since he was able to train this many number of guards to become decent workers.

’ I wonder if that could work.’ Lucuis thought to himself, blinking his eyes all of a sudden.

The next moment, the world before his eyes changed as colours shifted all around him, returning him to the same perception of the world as when he first tried using his eyes newfound ability, gotten from the grimore.

Staring at Rugbeard, he saw the same transparent energy permeating from him, only his was far greater than any he’d witnessed till now.

The transparent energy fluctuated just then.

Rugbeard who’d been circling till now suddenly bolted forward with one quick leap.

Lucuis raised his sword to clash with his, sparks flew as they locked swords.

" Not bad. You actually managed to block that one." Rugbeard smirked.

Lucuis on the other hand winced, while able to block it, the force behind it still turned his arms slightly numb. He could tell that the old man was holding back so as not to injure him.

And yet he was still able to draw out this much power.

’ I’ve really been underestimating this baldy.’ Lucuis chuckled inwardly before leaping backwards to create some distance between them.

Rugbeard smirked and got into a fighting stance once more. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

The guards all cheered, their voices rising high. From the exchange just now, it was clear who’d won. While Lucuis had been able to defend, the guards could see who the clear winner was.

" You can do it Papa!" All of a sudden, the training grounds turned silent except for one voice which drew everyone’s attention, the sight of little Emily cheering for Lucuis realised left most of them at a loss.

" We believe in you young master!" Su joined in and the both of them cheered him on.

Lucuis paused for a moment before he stuffed a laugh beneath his breath. It seemed he had at least some people who wished to see him win.

" Quite the team you’ve got there, I must say I’m a bit envious young master."

" Is that so? Well I’m afraid it can’t be helped." Lucuis replied with another laugh.

" Are you sure you’d like to continue? It’d be a shame to lose and dash that little ones hopes?"

" There’s nothing to worry about Rugbeard, I’m afraid I won’t be the one losing this time around." Lucuis replied while taking a fighting stance.

" Confidence huh? That’s a mighty fine quality to have." Said Rugbeard. " But I’m afraid confidence with something to back it up might be mistaken for stupidity by some."

Lucuis didn’t reply to his taunt but remained focus, sure he was confident, but like the old man said, without something to back it up, it’d be useless, fortunately he had something to back it up.

For right before Rugbeard had attacked, he’d seen it.

That fluctuation of transparent energy had given him an insight on how to get one over Rugbeard.

Once more, the head guard charged at him.

" To late." Lucuis had already seen it ahead of time and leaped horizontally to avoid the blow. Causing Rugbeards sword to hit nothing but air.

Having failed his attack, the old man didn’t relent, brushing it off, he continuously lunged and Lucuis, delivering strike after strike each time, but the more time passed, the more he felt odd, even the guards who watched on had odd looks on their faces since the young master always fled each time.

" Do you really think avoiding me will land you a win young master?" Rugbeard said after coming to a stop. He flicked his sword, causing a sharp sound to be heard.

’ He’s right.’ Lucuis said to himself, while he was able to determine when the old man would strike and evaded in kind, he still wasn’t able to predict what type of attack the old man would use.

’ If it comes towards a battle of attrition, while Rugbeard is old, I doubt I’d be able to truly beat him.’ Lucuis let out a breath to steady his nerves.

He then took a battle stance, sword held diagonally in hand.

’ If I want to win.’ he pushed off with his feet, kicking up some dirt and shooting towards the old man.

’ I’ll need to take the advantage.’ Lucuis added.

Rugbeard smirked, relieved he wasn’t planning on dodging anymore. The moment he entered his range of attack, Rugbeard delivered a decisive sword slash.

’ Now!’ But Lucuis, who’s eyes had been focused on him throughout. Responded quickly.

As the sword swung horizontally to meet him, the old man was alarmed to see him bending backwards while sliding forward.

Lucuis’s heart palepated when the blade swept centimeters from his bent face, it’s glistening side illuminated visibly by the sunlight.

Rugbeards countless years of experience suddenly kicked in, he twisted his wrist, redirecting his strike backwards in a downward diagonal manner.

SLASH!

But it was too late, rather than aiming for his midsection, Lucuis who’d predicted this due to the transparent energy telling tale sign, instead delivered a clean strike onto Rugbeards wrist.

" AHH." The old man winced, leaping backwards but blade still in hand. From that distance, he flashed Lucuis and incredulous stare. Clearly he hadn’t expected Lucuis to pull of such a clean counterattack.

The other guards within the training hall were even more astounded. When they saw the drop of blood that dropped from their teachers wrist and onto the floor.

All them were well aware of how skilled Rugbeard was, and why they feared the young master, non of them had actually believed he be able to inflict an injury onto the man.

" Let’s stop it here." Lucuis words suddenly drew everyone’s attention. He sheared his blade before blowing towards Rugbeard.

" I apologise for calling our match short but I think it’d be inappropriate to continue with her here." Lucuis briefly glanced at Emily from the corner of his eyes at the end of his sentence.
