Chapter 598: Chapter 598: The Final Assessment of Military Training

Su Wan cleared her throat, "Commander Gu, we are trying to find out which one of us is the Insect God, aren’t we? Be serious."

What does it mean to burst into a Manic-Depressive Period at the drop of a hat?

After all, that’s a pretty grown-up wolf we’re talking about.

But what could be done, since it was her own wolf, she had no choice but to soothe it herself...

**

Military Training Base.

Gu Yan flipped through her Space Button and realized that the food she brought from home was almost gone, but the good news was that the rigorous military training was also coming to an end.

Just from the training over these past twenty-some days, Gu Yan had lost nearly twenty kilograms. She looked up at Vivian, whose figure hadn’t changed at all, and felt a bit envious, "Beastmen really do have excellent physical fitness."

Besides nutrient solutions, she had plenty of tasty food from home, yet still, her body had vastly consumed its reserves due to the draining nature of the training.

Especially when putting on the tight training suit, she could really feel how much she had slimmed down.

Vivian looked over and nodded, "You have lost a lot of weight, you’re the same size both front and back now."

Gu Yan: "..."

There was no need to be so brutally honest.

Since it was the final training exercise, and they only knew there was to be a large group hike, nothing else was clear. When the bell rang, Gu Yan and Vivian quickly went to the training ground to assemble.

Each college’s students lined up together, with the most upright and arguably the strongest of all being the Military College.

As she passed by the Military College’s squad, Gu Yan instinctively looked for Bai Li in the crowd, but she noticed many male students looking at her, so she immediately turned her head back.

However, passing by the Medical College, Gu Yu waved at his sister, and Gu Yan nodded in acknowledgment.

The lineup from the College of Humanities was a bit sloppy. Gu Yan and Vivian promptly took their places in line, and before long, once all the students had arrived, the instructor on the podium began to announce the final hike.

"Everyone has gained a base score of sixty points from the preliminary training. Of course, those who failed multiple items will have points deducted. This final hike is your best opportunity to earn points! If you fail the final assessment, your credits will be deducted when you return to school."

Upon hearing this, the students all became serious.

Even Gu Yan began to calculate her own scores; she had a base of 60 points and had earned 42, which wasn’t high, but it wasn’t too low either.

For the upcoming final race, there were a total of 40 points available, and she needed to get at least 18 to be safe—that is, more than half.

Some from the College of Humanities had poor preliminary scores; out of 60, most only achieved thirty-something, with a few even in their twenties.

The ones in the twenties were the worst off, meaning they needed near-perfect scores in this last race to pass.

So, after the instructor finished explaining the rules, a few students immediately turned pale.

They regretted not putting more effort and persistence into the preliminary training sessions!

As for Vivian, she had achieved 50 points from the preliminary phase and stood a chance to score over 80 with a good performance in what was to come.

Before the students, a large gate appeared; behind it lay the terrain for this race.

"Each college’s students have different tasks, which have been sent to your personal cyber-brains. Once you’ve collected your personal supply packs, enter through this gate. I wish you all good luck in completing your tasks."

It sounded simple enough.

But no one believed that these last forty points would come easily.

Gu Yan and Vivian stepped forward to collect their supply packs. Without checking the contents, they sequentially entered through the door, many contemplating how to secure a good score in this final drill.

After stepping through the door, Gu Yan found their world had drastically changed; they were now in the wilderness, with smoke rising in the distance and the vague outline of what might be a city, though it was a bit far off.

There was a highway closer to them with several vehicles parked along the side, some overturned, the specifics of which were unknown.

Vivian heard arguing and said in a low voice, "It sounds like people are fighting!"

Gu Yan thought for a moment and said, "There’s a forest over there. Let’s hide and check out the mission first."

"Alright."

In ignorance of the exact mission, the safest plan was to find a secure spot and understand the rules of the task before proceeding.

The two young girls quickly took cover behind trees and activated their light computers to discover the mission inside.

"Enter the abandoned city and survive for 24 hours, with timing starting the moment you enter the city. The quicker the mission completion, the more bonus points are awarded."

Both of their tasks were the same, indicating that this was the mission for the College of Humanities.

Gu Yan blinked and said, "So, our mission is to stay alive?"

Death here would certainly not mean real death, as beside the small print there was an additional note stating that, in case of life-threatening danger, one could immediately press the emergency call on the light computer.

The instructors would arrive promptly.

Vivian turned pale and said, "It seems quite dangerous!"

Gu Yan shook her head. "The abandoned city should be that distant city. Logically, there must be safe zones within the city where we just need to stay for 24 hours. However, there are dangerous zones, and I think the tasks for other colleges must involve these areas as an increased challenge."

For example, students from the Military Academy would definitely have to go to dangerous areas of the abandoned city.

And the mission for the Medical College would surely be much harder than for the College of Humanities.

Vivian: "Xiaoyan, there’s a distance from here to the abandoned city. Shall we check if any of those cars are operational?"

"Sounds good, but be careful."

"Are there going to be troubles?"

Gu Yan looked around and whispered, "Many people will want a car for transportation, which could lead to conflicts. Also... the setting here makes me feel there could be other entities interfering with us."

It certainly wouldn’t be as simple as just finding a car and going into the city.

If it were an abandoned city setting...there could either be mutated plants or mutated humans!

Vivian grew tense as well.

She said, "But in our supply packs, we only have daggers."

Gu Yan clenched her fist; her companion Little Tail was in there. She said, "The danger shouldn’t be too great; we just need to stay alert."

The real danger would likely come after entering the city!

Sure enough, when Gu Yan and Vivian reached one of the cars, they found someone in it!

No, to be more precise, the being inside with its hideous appearance, rotting cheeks, and gaping, ferocious mouth, could no longer be considered human!

Vivian’s face went instantly pale!

She quickly turned her head to look at Gu Yan!
