Chapter 586: Chapter 586: Test Upgrade

Gu Yan: "I should be able to do it. By then, my brother and Vivian will be with me, so I should be in a better state than today."

Since Gu Yan had said so, Bai Li could only let her go to sleep without saying anything else.

Standing in front of the glass window, Bai Li narrowed his eyes and looked outside, just as the butterfly Insectoid happened to pass by. Out of curiosity, he said, "Bai Li, what are you doing standing here so late at night? Why don’t you go back to the dormitory to rest?"

Bai Li turned to look at him.

Among the Insectoids, the butterfly ones were famously beautiful, and thus, after coming to Empire University, he quickly became acquainted with some of the female students.

Bai Li remembered that Xiaoyan had no particular interest in this person. His gaze slightly hardened, and he turned and walked away.

The butterfly Insectoid was somewhat speechless, and only after Bai Li had walked some distance did he mutter under his breath, "What an unsociable guy! Who even knows what kind of insect he belongs to! If it weren’t for Commander Xi Le’s sake, I wouldn’t bother with you at all!"

Because they guessed that Bai Li might be someone whom Commander Xi Le wanted to train seriously, the other Insectoids, although a bit annoyed by Bai Li’s solitary nature, only dared to grumble in private.

After all, they were on Landis Star’s turf, and internal strife would only make them a laughingstock.

Meanwhile, in the men’s dormitory of the neighboring medical college, Gu Yu was reporting today’s training situation to his mother, Su Wan.

"Xiaoyan did great. She completed the fifty-kilometer weighted run and fainted from exhaustion at the end, but she’s rested up now, and she should be able to make further progress tomorrow."

"Mhm, take good care of your sister over there. How about you?"

"I’m fine, this training is nothing. I’ve decided to help Xiaoyan more tomorrow. I will let her friend help with the weights, and I’ll carry her so that she can conserve more energy."

After hearing this, Su Wan laughed and said, "You don’t need to go that far. Xiaoyan has her own plans; just talk it over with her tomorrow."

"Okay."

Su Wan knew her daughter must be exhausted and was already resting, so she did not contact her.

The next day, Gu Yu told Gu Yan about what their mother said, as well as his own decision, which left Gu Yan laughing and crying.

"Big brother, there’s really no need to go that far; it’s enough that you start by helping me with the weights, which already saves me a lot of energy."

In fact, Gu Yan also felt that after breaking her physical limits yesterday, her body had recovered quite a bit today, and this time, her brother and Vivian had run an extra eight kilometers with her.

So when they left, Gu Yan felt that she could still continue on.

Not to mention, during the last part of the route, she wasn’t alone—Brother Little Mushroom was there to cheer her on and encourage her, and Gu Yan completed the fifty-kilometer weighted run five minutes ahead of schedule the next day!

Then came the third day, when she finished ten minutes earlier!

Gu Yan was genuinely happy; she could feel her physical fitness improving!

This was also one of the purposes of military training. The basic physical fitness of the children must certainly be trained extensively.

However, among the several colleges, Gu Yan’s college was still at the bottom. At the end of the seventh day, ten people were still failing.

These ten people would be left behind to continue the weighted long runs, while all the other students would begin the second round of training.

The second round of training for the College of Humanities involved advanced physical exercises, requiring the completion of five tasks within a set time.

The first task was swimming, the second was navigating through thorny sand pits, the third was climbing ice mountains, the fourth was pull-ups, and the fifth was shooting.

Because students at the College of Humanities have the poorest overall physical fitness, the standards they need to meet are also the lowest.

But even so, many people still struggle to pass.

If they do not complete the five events within the designated time on the first attempt, they must try again.

If the entire morning passes without success, then there would be no lunch to eat.

Students who passed on their first try could then choose to rest or go to observe and join other students in military training.

This depends on individual physical strength.

Among the College of Humanities, there were not many Beastmen, mostly purebred humans, or the occasional Plantman like Gu Yan.

Gu Yan glanced at the first three items, which tested speed, while pull-ups were a test of physical fitness, which was her weak point.

However, the last item, shooting, was Gu Yan’s strong suit.

Her parents were both military geniuses, and it was a surprise that Gu Yan lacked physical strength, but her shooting accuracy was not bad at all. The only drawback was that she couldn’t shoot continuously, since if it took too long, her arms would become too tired to lift, making it impossible to hold steady.

However, the instructors were quite benevolent, letting everyone get familiar with the five items for the whole day, especially the last one, as many people might never have had the chance to try shooting.

Gu Yan turned her head and saw her friend frowning. She said, "Vivian, haven’t you tried shooting before?"

Vivian: "Ah, shooting is okay, but I don’t like swimming!"

Gu Yan suddenly remembered, rabbits are afraid of water, and Vivian was particularly timid, so swimming might increase the fear in her heart.

Gu Yan said, "You can only try to overcome this, since these are all fundamental trainings. But don’t worry, during the free practice later, I’ll practice with you a bit more."

Gu Yan naturally loved being close to water, not to mention that she had two Mermaids at home, so swimming to her might be most challenging only because she couldn’t swim for too long due to it being very draining on her strength.

Vivian felt a bit embarrassed, "It would be bad to take up your time to accompany me."

Gu Yan: "What are you talking about, you were with me all along when I was running with weights the other day."

"That was all my brother helping me with the weights, and I didn’t do much."

"Well, I won’t do much either, just be by your side to accompany you swimming, which might help you relax a bit."

Vivian thought about it and looked at the clear swimming pool, finally nodding her head.

She actually knew how to swim, but she just disliked and feared water. Yet, everyone had to participate in these five events, so there was no saying that because of disliking or fear, one could give up.

If Little Yan could run so hard and never give up, then why should she?

Vivian suddenly thought, "Gu Yan, you don’t have to accompany me for too long. If you feel there’s a problem with any other event, you should also try it out in advance."

Gu Yan gave a wry smile, "My problem is the lack of physical strength, so I really can’t try too much. At most, it’s testing to see where my limit is."

If the time it took her to complete a series of events was too different from the qualifying time.

Then this training might be even more difficult for Gu Yan than the previous weighted long-distance running!
