Ethan stopped when they were half a meter away from each other.
Petal heard the footsteps and she turned her head to look, Their eyes met but this time she wasn’t afraid of him, She was too tired to be bothered by him.
She had come here to be alone and he was here, Petal stared at him with her eyes that were full of tears and she didn’t even bother to whip them.
Ethan took a closer look at her and noticed that she didn’t step back. She ignored his presence and turned to look outside the window again as if she was telling him to leave her alone.
Ethan looked at her for a moment before he turned around and left, respecting her wish to be alone.
He recalled the look in her eyes and it made him feel uneasy about himself. The hatred that she harbored towards him was evident in her eyes.
...
"Petal, My dear, How are you dear? I missed you." Her mother asked her in her sweet gentle voice that she had never heard before.
Petal stared at her mother with wide eyes, Not believing that was seeing her mother and hearing her voice.
Petal tried to say something but just in the real world, she couldn’t say anything.
"Don’t worry, Everything will be fine, Petal, I just want you to be strong and don’t let anything get to you." Her mother said caressing her daughter’s hair. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
Petal looked at her mother confused wondering why she was saying that to her.
"Goodbye, Petal." Her mother said Kissing her forehead.
And that was the last thing she saw before she woke up.
Petal sat up on the bed gasping for air, She looked around her and realized that she was in her room, Touching her face she felt the tears that were covering her cheeks.
This was the first time she had dreamed of her mother since she left the mansion. She said goodbye, But why did she say that?.
And what does she mean when she tells her to be strong?.
Petal felt her headache the more she thought about this, What was happening?.
Both Jacob and her mother hadn’t tried to contact her since she came here. She needed to know what was happening and she needed to visit a place to find out.
Getting up from the bed, Petal, Headed towards the bathroom.
...
Downstairs, Inside the dining room.
The family was gathered around the table waiting for Petal to come downstairs.
Today was an unusual morning, Ethan had come to eat breakfast with them.
"I’m glad that you came to have breakfast with us." Lana said happy to see her son early in the morning.
Ethan smiled at his mother as he picked up his coffee taking a sip of it.
"We missed having you on the table." Alice who was sitting beside her brother said.
Ethan patted his sister’s head gently.
"Me too." He replied.
Just then, A maid Entered the dining room and walked towards Lana,, and whispered something to her in her ear that made her frown.
Ethan looked at his mother who had a frown on her face.
"Did she leave?" Lana asked the maid.
"She just came down." The maid replied.
"Continue without me." Lana said as she stood up and the maid followed her behind.
Alice looked at Isaac and then at Ethan before she stood up and went after her mother.
Issac glanced at Ethan who looked not caring about what just happened, sipping on his coffee as he sat back on his chair staring at his mobile phone.
...
Outside the mansion.
Lana was able to catch up with Petal before she left the mansion.
"Petal." Lana called her and the latter stopped walking and turned to look at her.
"Where are you going early in the morning?" Lana asked as she came to stand in front of her.
She noticed that her eyes looked red. She was crying, she concluded.
Petal hesitated for a while before she answered her.
"To my family mansion." She replied, signaling.
Lana smiled at her, Placing her hand on her shoulder.
"I’m not going to stop you from going there." Lana said.
"I know." Petal replied.
"Mom, Petal, What’s going on?" Alice, who had followed her mother, asked.
"Nothing, Petal wanted to visit her family mansion." Lana replied to Alice.
Hearing this, Alice started to feel uncomfortable.
Time was ticking and the moment the truth started to get closer, Alice thought to herself.
"How are you going to go there?" Lana asked Petal.
"I will take a taxi, No need to come with me." She replied, signaling smiling politely at Lana and Alice.
"No, I will drive you there." Alice offered.
Seeing how they were concerned about her, Petal nodded her head.
"I will go and get my car keys. Wait for me here." Alice said.
Lana looked at Petal smiling warmly at her, She reached her hand Caressing her hair with her hand.
Petal felt an ache in her heart. It was just like her mother did to her in her dream. She too caressed her hair gently. She could still feel the warmth of her hand though it was only a dream.
After Alice and Patel left, Lana went back to the dining room.
"Mom, You seem worried about what happened?" Issac asked.
Lana sighed looking at her son Ethan, Things had started to get more complicated, and soon, The truth will be revealed.
Her son had killed an innocent soul, Petal, Mother. He was bound to be punished by the heavens and she only hoped that the punishment wouldn’t be severe.
"Petal, Wanted to visit her family mansion, Or what was left of it." She replied.
Ethan’s face stayed the same hearing what his mother said, Void of emotions, But what no one noticed was the movement of his eyes when her mother spoke.
"There is nothing left there. It’s going to be a shock for her. She will start to question what happened. I think it’s best if we tell her the truth before she learns it from someone else." Issac said, staring at his brother.
"We can’t, Petal is unstable emotionally. She won’t be able to handle it. Besides, even if she went there today, There is nothing she can find that proves anything." Lana replied to her son.
Ethan who was listening to his family talking, Stood up and picked up his coat that was hanging on the chair.
"Don’t wait for me tonight." That’s all that he said before he left.
Lana sighed as she massaged her forehead.
"Keep a close eye on her starting today." Lana ordered her son and he nodded his head.
...
Alice glanced at Petal who was staring outside the window. She was worried about what was going to happen once they arrived.
She felt sad for her and guilty at the same time, Petal had lost her family because of her and her family.
Alice didn’t want to lose Petal, She finally had a sister and she might lose her soon, Something that she was scared of.
Once they arrived, Petal was the first one to step off the car, Closing the car door behind her, Petal’s eyebrows drew together looking at the demolished mansion.
She walked closer and started to look around her to find nothing but the rubbles of her family mansion. She had prepared herself for something like this, But seeing it with her own eyes was much harder.
Petal tried to swallow the lump in her, She tried to not cry and be strong but it was hard to do that.
Stepping on the rubbles she tried to find something, Petal sat on her knees and started to remove the rubbles to find Something that will help her to get through this.
Alice watched from afar and felt sorry for her. She decided to stay away, giving her some space. After all, Everything that happened and still happening with her was not easy.
Just like Alice, There was another person who was watching from afar. Ethan watched the girl get on her knees removing the rubbles, He could tell that she was crying by the movement of her shoulders.
Tightening his grip on the Steering wheel he turned the car on and left.
Petal, who hadn’t found anything, stopped looking and just stayed there staring at the emptiness of the place.
She stood up and left the place with Alice going back to the mansion. The whole way back, Petal was thinking about a way to find Jacob and her mother. Something is happening and she needs to understand it.
When they came back, Petal went upstairs and locked herself in her room.
"I’m worried about her." Alice said to her mother.
"She didn’t react as expected. She is alone now with no family." She added.
