Chapter 74: Age Control

Leon’s eyes widened with fear and shock.

’I didn’t think he would make his fly come and check these bushes... I’m definitely screwed now.’ Leon thought to himself.

He had been trailing this nerdy-looking guy for a while. Why? He didn’t have a fully fleshed out reason.

He happened to notice the young man and began following him after overhearing some interesting words.

"Woohoo! I’ve made it! I will kill Midas and take over this island!" The nerdy young man yelled, standing on the shores of Demadur.

"A player like me needs not worry! My ability to control time itself is the strongest Player ability. The gods themselves clearly favor me to win... I won’t let them down. I am Yertos Zamit, damn it!" He shouted to himself, as if he were his own biggest fan yelling from the sidelines.

’This guy’s a weirdo...’ Leon thought this at first when he initially saw the guy addressed as ’Yertos Zamit.’

Since Yertos happened to be a player, though, Leon knew that following him would lead to something more interesting than thousands of miles of forest.

He didn’t mind searching each inch of this island if that’s what it took to find whatever starry path Dorian was talking about. But following a player was probably the best idea in Leon’s head.

As Leon stared at Zett, the fly, with a petrified gaze, a red energy suddenly flashed across his pupils.

He didn’t notice it, but an observer could see it as clear as day.

The fly blitzed backward, returning to its master.

"Anything there, Zett?" Yertos asked as the fly landed on his shoulder.

"No... I don’t think so." The fly buzzed, but Yertos was able to understand him just fine.

"What? What do you mean you don’t think so? It’s either a yes or a no." Yertos replied, slightly confused.

"I thought I saw something, but then my brain told me nothing was there. When I looked again... nothing was there." Zett replied with a pause. He seemed a bit confused. As though still in a daze.

"Tsk..." Yertos clicked his tongue, "Shut up, bug." He said in a condescending tone, "There’s nothing there. You are probably just exhausted or something. Go feast on some shit or rotten meat nearby."

Zett nodded, disappearing from the scene.

Leon’s eyes widened with shock.

’W-what!?’ He said inwardly, ’That fly... it clearly saw me. Why didn’t it rat me out? Did it happen to not recognize me in the bush? No. That’s impossible. This bush is open from the top. There was no way it didn’t see me.’

His mind began to race.

Did Yertos know of his existence? Was he actually clueless? Without knowing the answer to this for certain, Leon felt nervous to even move an inch.

Whilst in a bout of worried thinking, Leon noticed that he hadn’t been paying attention to what was going on in real life.

’Why is... he just standing there silently?’ Leon mused, confused. Yertos indeed wasn’t moving for some reason.

’Hmm.’ Yertos thought, ’You know what... let me not take anything for granted. If I screw up this mission of mine just because of overconfidence, I’d never forgive myself.’

He knelt down on one knee and placed his palm on the floor.

’Let me see the past few minutes of the history of the ground.’ He said inwardly.

On closing his eyes, a vision appeared before him--as though his eyes were wide open.

The vision looked to be of the area that he was in currently, but the video in his brain played in rewinded time.

He rewound time in his head, moving his area of vision over toward the bush.

Looking back a few minutes earlier, he saw Leon sneak behind him and crouch under the bushes.

Yertos’s eyes flew open, a serious look in them.

"I know you’re in there, kid." He said, standing. "Get out before this turns ugly for you." He said in a cold tone.

Leon gulped. ’Shit.’ He thought. ’I don’t have any other choice but to stand. Maybe he won’t antagonize me...’ He said inwardly before slowly beginning to stand up.

The two made eye contact for a few silent seconds.

"Who are you? Why have you been following me?" Yertos asked, a slightly angry expression on his face.

"My name is Leon... I am on this island to find the starry path and avenge my fallen family." Leon said blatantly. It was the truth, and in this moment of stress and tension, a kid’s mind couldn’t resort to much else.

"Oh?" Yertos said, a grin beginning to grow on his face.

’So he’s just a random brat? No affiliation with Midas at all?’ He thought. This seemed to make him eager and excited. ’Good.... good! My worry was for nothing. But this kid may still have some sort of power I need to worry about. After all, Zett couldn’t detect him for some reason.’

"How did you get to this island? Do you have anyone with you? Anyone helping you?" Yertos asked in a polite tone. Inwardly, however, he was relishing the fact that Leon had no connection with Midas.

"I... don’t really know how I got here. I just washed up here. But I wanted to come here. I was told to come here and that I would find a path to vengeance somehow." Leon replied, his answer again straightforward.

’No powers...’ Yertos thought, his inward grin growing, ’No assistance... and completely abandoned. Perfect, I can just kill him and get him out of the way. Since he doesn’t pose a threat, eliminating him so he won’t disturb my mission will be best.’

He raised his right hand and began walking toward Leon.

Leon froze. He didn’t know what the young man before him was going to do.

He was talking quite politely, so maybe he was a nice guy.

But then again, the grin on his face and the look in his eyes were off-putting and creepy.

Yertos’s pace began to hasten.

Leon, in his child-like terror, could not force his feet to move.

Yertos appeared right in front of him and grabbed Leon’s skull.

"Age one hundred years and die... brat," Yertos said as Leon’s body instantly began morphing.
