Chapter 90: Research

"Well, all we need for the display of the importance of the Hubs is just two bricks or other hard material for Ishtarnii to break with her hands, right? Maybe four and showcase someone else as well just to make sure they aren’t thinking this is just something a Bullkin can do..."

My musings got nods from everyone else, with Anwen chiming in to say "I’ll do that as well since I know I can do it, because otherwise someone might get hurt. Oh, and bricks will do fine; we can make them before the presentation if need be, or even have someone else in the class make them!"

"Showcasing the mental effects on your magic will also be difficult without casting an offensive oriented spell since they show it so easily. My technique is only so good visibly, and many people might not believe it when they see it; to them it could easily be faked, after all."

The issues of putting together a presentation that delivered believable and valuable information straight to an audience of people who had a vast range of understanding when it came to magic was unsurprisingly rather challenging, and as such we had a bit of a hiccup in progress before we even really began.

"Hopefully that is where the information delivered verbally will help convince them of what we are showing them. After all that is the primary purpose of these demonstrations we will be conducting."

We all looked back at Jacklyn’s notebook to see if we had missed anything that we might need, and after a few moments we were pulled away from it as our Professor walked on over and stood at the edge of our table.

"Is everything going well? Any questions or concerns that I might be able to help you with?"

Looking at us one by one, Professor Maryanne reassured us with that gentle smile of hers before focusing on Anwen as the Harekin asked "How would you best show the effects of your mental state in your magic without using offensive oriented magic? Burning or otherwise causing damage to the library is obviously something we want to avoid..."

Her smile widened as she replied "Well, firstly that sounds like you want me to do your work for you, however... this is as good as any a time to remind you that ’offensive magic’ is only that because of your mental state going into it. Perhaps you should start there and work your way back towards something else, hm?"

"Oh, and Professor, you wouldn’t happen to have a Grading Sphere that we could use for our research, would you?"

My hopeful question earned me a smile as Professor Maryanne shook her head, the older librarian dashing those hopes before reigniting them as she said "They aren’t mine to give freely, however the Mirabelle Atoma Library does have a few Grading Spheres available for borrowing. I will say though that they tend to be checked out quite frequently, so there is no guarantee they are currently here."

I let out a sigh and tried to think of where or who else I could get a Grading Sphere from since it would be the easiest way to complete the meditation segment of our presentation, and because it would be helpful for me regardless since I wanted to see where I fell compared to some of my peers.

They were no longer able to display a stat sheet that told me all of their strengths and weaknesses, all available spells and weapons they had... this was something in the game I had never memorized because I never felt the need, so their ’exact’ strengths were definitely unknown to me.

And now I wanted to try and understand the correlation between my stats in the System and what was readily understood by everyone here, because if I could do that I could make far more accurate decisions going forwards about quite a lot of things.

"Natalie, if there are none in the library then you can go and ask Professor Hollishire, Professor Beaumont, or Professor Vivi Catan if they would be willing to loan you theirs. I will warn you though that they all tend to require some form of compensation and or guarantee that you won’t damage their items... and are willing to repay them in one way or another if you do end up breaking them."

I now had a list of people I could go ask if there weren’t any remaining here, and of course I was going to test my luck with Professor Hollishire first since she was the one that I ’knew’ compared to the other two...

Especially Professor Beaumont, who was an extremely uptight and proud woman from a fallen Noble House renowned for their power... so much so that a few of their ’rivals’ decided to band together and become full blown enemies overnight just to wipe them out.

She still acted like she was above everyone else, even the other Nobility, and as such she was quite the irritating woman to talk with, let alone be around for long periods of time...

"Is there anything else that you wish to ask? I assume this notebook is acting as your planner too, so... Hubs, meditation and intent. They all flow together quite nicely, and they are the fundamentals of the fundamentals... very useful knowledge to have! I look forwards to your presentation~!"

We all nodded and basked in her warm smile before letting her know that that was all, and with that we were given the free time to go back to planning out the rest of our presentation as well as begin taking notes on the subjects that we have chosen.

Every single bullet point that we made was a noteworthy piece of information that we were going to have to weave together into a larger, informative presentation that would help not only us but our peers as well...

That alone had us all feeling a little antsy since this was our first assignment for the year, and anything less than excellent would leave a sour taste in our mouths going forwards that we would be working hard to scrub away.
