Chapter 40: Starting Some Training

Shaking those thoughts out of my mind and instead focusing on something else - something more important - was surprisingly easy when compared to last night; maybe I had done a little too much gooning last night or perhaps my mini panic attack had set me straight.

That’s not to say that I wasn’t still feeling all sorts of tingly down there as I thought about the smooth, unblemished chocolate skin that glistened beautifully when wet, or how soft she had been when I had been massaging her shoulders and feet...

Or how nice she had smelt and how there was definitely a few things I would be willing to do to get an even better whiff of her scent...

Those thoughts were very hard to get out of my head, but thankfully just stepping out of the room seemed to give me a soft reset of a sort that helped clear me right up and give me the brainpower to think of useful things.

There were a few different objectives I had for today, and their order didn’t really matter as much as I would think they would; there were a few people that I should meet today to hopefully start establishing bonds with, there were some more items I could get before my classes started - ones that were given by the Academy and others that were hidden - and then there was my training.

Last night was just proof to me that I needed to get better quicker, and that wasn’t just in the categories that I was thinking of focusing on entirely; the desire to just be a glass cannon mage was strong, but it was pure idiocy that I needed to nip at the bud immediately.

There were plenty of monsters that would chew me up and spit me out without any issue whatsoever if I went full mage, and that wasn’t even counting the conditioning that I needed to do so that I wasn’t useless on any expeditions period.

All that walking with all sorts of gear and loot on me would take a lot of stamina, and although it was very hated as a game mechanic it was something that was real and needed to be thought about well in advance.

How much you could carry and for how long would determine a lot of what you could or couldn’t do in those Dungeons, and the last thing I wanted was to be a liability to my party and incapable of - at the very least - looking after myself should things go wrong.

I still was going to be stubbornly focused on improving my magic, but getting some simple conditioning in would be a requirement; on top of that I should likely improve my overall strength a bit too since there was inevitably going to be close quarters combat that I would need to participate in.

I wasn’t planning on taking the lead in a charge anytime soon but there was the real risk of someone charging at me, so at the very least knowing how to handle myself in a close up fight was another requirement...

Which to that end I needed to find myself a good short blade and get to work practicing with it until I not only feel comfortable with it but can also be threatening with it if need be; on top of that I was going to want to start thinking of the various things I should prioritize purchasing soon since... well...

I wasn’t exactly the most prepared student at this Academy, and the things that I was going to need - the items that would become the foundations of my power - were locked behind some arduous tasks that would require preparation.

A good blade, some potions, perhaps a good wand or staff as well as some enchanted robes for armor... though that brought me the problem of being a completely broke Academy student that had little means of making money right now.

That was for later though, and what I should do now... well, without a clearcut plan in mind I just started walking through the dim, quiet halls of the early morning, brushing past the various nocturnal students that were heading to bed while also avoiding any of those who had just awoken and seemed... irritable.

My feet took me to the place that I was honestly least expecting, but with it being relatively empty I just sighed and looked around for a nice spot to occupy for myself; it was the giant gymnasium that had a myriad of spells laced into its four walls, floor and roof.

Currently it was set to be a peaceful meadow with a gentle breeze; dirt and grass under our boots and fluffy white clouds overhead seemed impossible since we were still inside, but to that I just say ’magic’.

Like many other areas in the Academy the inside was larger than it should have been, giving an ample amount of space to work with and allowing me to claim a quiet corner for myself as I began to stretch, looking around at the few other occupants and wondering if any of them were of importance. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

A Draconian was bench pressing an absurd amount of rocks that she had likely created herself, a group of Elves were practicing some swordplay and magic together and then there was a fluffy Wolfkin running laps around the edges of the room.

Folding my outer robe and adjusting my sleeves, I lowered myself to the ground and started with some push ups again, trying to do more than just five in a row but stopping right when the burn felt like too much.

I managed to push to ten this time, though that was likely a bad idea since my arms felt weird - and they shouldn’t - while my shoulders ached a little, which made more sense; after that I switched to sit ups, doing twenty five of them smoothly and without too much issue.

Perhaps the rest from last night and my body soaking in some more mana got me feeling better, or maybe I was just an idiot; either way I sprang up and just did a few squats because it felt right before dropping back down for more pushups.

I had no clue whether this was efficient, a good workout or if I was even doing these all right, but until someone could show me otherwise I was just going to keep going until I was soaked with sweat and felt happy with myself... which might take a little while or it might be any minute now...
