Isekaied Into An Eroge, Time To Have Fun!-Chapter 128: Back On The Grind (2)
"Is this really the best way for me to go about this..? Forcing this sort of type matchup without a lot of experience feels sort of-"
"It is a very good and effective way to learn because there is no room for error now. Besides, these are just Spirits; most of your magical attacks will override their own defenses far before the type matchup even takes effect. Also... you asked me to help you train and get better at magic faster. This is how I did it."
I glanced back at Sera and immediately received a raised brow as she added "Except I didn’t fight little Spirits; I had to deal with the Kobolds that were crawling out of a Dungeon near my home. Y’know, monsters that are actually a threat on their own.", making me smile wryly while counting my blessings.
Thankfully she couldn’t force me to fight stronger opponents, but the ’threat’ was there as she stood just behind me, blocking the only exit from this cavern and making that message abundantly clear as well.
It was either clearing out this cavern and pushing through with just Earth Magic or getting reprimanded by the scary, busty blonde behind me who had a sleek, dangerous looking wand in her hands.
While a small part of me did want to get ’reprimanded’ by Sera because I apparently was just that submissive of a person, more of me understood that the blonde wasn’t really into me like that, so if I did piss her off she would genuinely reprimand me.
No ’fun’ to be had in it, and being yelled at by someone like Sera did not seem like a pleasant time... especially not when she had a potent weapon in her hand, but that was true for pretty much everyone.
"Look, Earth Magic has its strong suits and its weak points, and I want you to start learning them both at the same time. It’s a powerful, simple kind of magic that can overwhelm most things, but when used against Water or Wind Mana based monsters it starts to lack in some areas.
Sometimes the extremely physical magic that comes from making use of the crust of the world is inefficient and unideal, but it never is useless. Everything can succumb to its prowess, but learning how to make that a reality is hard.
I don’t expect that from you because even I haven’t done that yet, but getting a start is never a bad idea. Now, go on and start taking care of these various Spirits with just Earth Magic. Try to use more than just arrow spells too; diversify your magic and get used to casting all kinds of spells."
I nodded and focused on the nine Spirits that were floating around the area, wondering how to go about this before just going with what felt right; to start, there was a Fire Spirit lazily floating above a crystal, enjoying the glow and just existing.
That made me feel a little bit bad for what I was about to do, but it wasn’t my fault it wasn’t paying attention; pooling my mana into my hands, I created a pebble and began to spin it before zipping it straight at the Fire Spirit, feeling a mixture of adrenaline and reluctant pride as I watched its head explode as soon as the ’bullet’ collided with it.
Very simple and super effective; something that was used in pretty much every world no matter what was small, fast projectiles, and this one was no different, especially against lower level monsters since it took so little from you to do.
Bringing the total down to eight, I turned towards the duo of Water Spirits that were gathered above a plant and idly wondered if they were the reason there were so many herbs and the like down in the Dungeon, but I shook that from my head since I had more pressing matters to worry about.
How was I going to take care of two monsters that resisted my selected magic type while they were also a fair distance away from me?
Such a dilemma... one made even ’worse’ by the extra restriction placed upon me by Sera, who warned me to not use my currently most used spell.
So with no arrow being formed what else could I use the Earth Magic gathered in my hands for..?
Another bullet would be ’cheating’, the lash spell doesn’t really work that well with this element... perhaps a spike to impale them from below..?
Or I could just chuck a larger rock at them and squash them beneath it like they were bugs... that could technically work as a ’different’ spell...
Going with the first idea that popped into my head, I crouched down and pressed my hands against the ground, sending my mana into it and gauging the distance between me and them so that I could accurately force the mana up out of the ground in the form of a spike.
When the rumbling happened they both looked down at the rocks beneath them only to end up staring right at a jagged point rushing towards them, and neither were quick enough to react, causing them to get impaled on a thick spike of rock that I was controlling from afar.
Releasing my control over the mana didn’t even have it crumbling away, instead leaving it there and allowing the monster’s bodies to just bleed out over the plant that they had been tending to, which seemed rather... morbid.
Now there were six left, and I felt rather... stupid since there was nothing coming into mind at the moment, ideas for spells alluding me for now as I stared at the remaining monsters... only to then reluctantly realize there was an entire category of magic I had been somewhat ignoring.
Physical enhancement spells existed, and with Earth Magic I could turn my arms into weapons or simply use the mana to create a weapon for me to use, and on top of that I could create armor for myself if I felt the need.
Centering my attention on the dagger I just unsheathed, I encased it in a thick layer of rock and turned it into a proper sword, which was jagged and rather heavy compared to what I was used to but definitely wieldable still.
Now I could use this as another of my ’spells’ to pass Sera’s test, while at the same time trying to figure out what else I could do so that I didn’t ’disappoint’ my new teacher; she might be strict and we might be the friends with benefits for someone else, but I did find her attractive and I wanted to be close with her, so disappointing her wasn’t on the table.
With a stone blade in my hand I charged forwards at another duo of Spirits, using the length of the weapon to breach the gap between us and give me the edge over these smaller monsters in close quarters combat.
The blade was actually less of a blade and more of a heavy club that just so happened to also slice some of the flesh of the monsters, leaving them in a rather... sorry state after I got that first swing off.
A horizontal slash that caught them both resulted in them flying backwards and smacking down against the ground, bouncing once and letting out these pathetic and shrill cries as they got severely damaged.
Getting both of them at the same time was nice, though having to walk over and finish them off was very much not something that I wanted to do... but it was necessary, so with a quick stab I brought the total populace of Spirits down yet again.
Leaving myself with four final Spirits, I had to come up with yet another method to kill them that wasn’t a blade, arrow, spike or bullet, and that was making this very hard... before I just decided to say ’fuck it’ and went for a repeat spell.
I wasn’t going to agonize over this and learning how to better refine them was preferable in all honesty since they were ’universal’ spells for me to use, and if I could figure them out even more then there was no issue in my eyes.
Honestly the flexibility that Earth Magic had came from its incredible ability to control large crowds of monsters, alter the terrain and as a defensive powerhouse that no other element could match, so it lacking in offensive capabilities sort of made sense.
Especially against monsters that weren’t walking on the ground; they were taking away one of the primary ways to use Earth Magic in combat, so I had to rely on a select few spells to actually get things done here.
Whether or not Sera would accept that as an ’excuse’ was yet to be seen, but what really mattered to me was getting this cavern cleared and heading into the next, because that was where I could start trying out the other elements...
