Invincible through Touching Corpses-Chapter 134 - 133: Probing
Everyone’s heart jumped at Lin Xinghai’s words. Even though no one had noticed anything amiss, the convoy immediately came to a halt.
"What’s wrong?" Fang Tianhe quickly scanned their surroundings and checked all the sensor equipment. After finding nothing abnormal, he asked his question.
"I don’t know. I just feel like something is off," Lin Xinghai said, frowning in thought.
Despite what Lin Xinghai said, Fang Tianhe didn’t feel he was making a big deal out of nothing. After all, a Mercenary’s intuition for danger could be crucial.
That kind of intuition had saved his life several times before.
Normally, the stronger a person’s Perception Power, the stronger their intuition for danger.
He didn’t understand why Lin Xinghai could sense danger when he couldn’t, but then again, Lin Xinghai defied all logic. So, Fang Tianhe didn’t dwell on it.
"Should I send people to scout the area?" Fang Tianhe asked after a moment’s thought.
"Hold on. A wide-ranging search will only thin our numbers. If the enemy is lying in ambush nearby, they could exploit that opening," Lin Xinghai countered. At the same time, he was constantly trying to alter his Perception Power.
Lin Xinghai’s understanding of how to apply his Perception Power was actually quite shallow. Aside from the special application for his Gun Technique granted by the system, he relied solely on instinct to even release his Perception.
As a result, the Perception Power he released simply formed a circle centered on himself.
Now, he wanted to release his Perception Power in a single direction. That way, if his Perception moved toward a certain area and he felt that sense of dread, it would prove that was the source of the danger.
It sounded simple, but for anyone else who had broken their second Genetic Lock, it was completely unthinkable.
To be precise, even for one of the Optimized with a Genetic Optimization Level of 100%, it would be impossible.
Unless they could break through to the Blood Qi Realm, causing their Perception Power to undergo a qualitative change.
But Lin Xinghai was different. For one, his Perception Power already surpassed all of the Optimized. More importantly, he had already grasped a method of using Perception Power that should have been impossible at this stage.
Under these circumstances, it might just be possible for him.
Soon, Lin Xinghai tried again and again. 1 attempt... 10 attempts... 50 attempts... 90 attempts. As he neared his 100th attempt and had used up over half of his Perception Power, Lin Xinghai finally got the hang of it.
After a few more attempts, he successfully released his Perception Power in a designated direction.
Lin Xinghai breathed a quiet sigh of relief and opened his eyes.
Although he had made nearly 100 attempts with his Perception Power, releasing and retracting it was extremely fast, so only a little over a minute had passed.
"How did it go? Did you figure anything out?" Ling Xiu quickly asked from nearby when he saw Lin Xinghai open his eyes.
He had just used his Thousand-Mile Eye Superpower to scan the surroundings again, but he hadn’t found anything unusual.
"That cluster of low buildings at our three o’clock. Use your Superpower to take a closer look and see if there are any problems," Lin Xinghai said, pointing to the buildings over 500 meters away.
"Uh... I’m not seeing anything," Ling Xiu replied after a careful look.
The other members of the Mercenary Corps could also hear their conversation over the comms channel. For buildings over 500 meters away, one didn’t even need Ling Xiu’s Superpower; the eyesight of the Optimized was enough to get a general idea.
But after everyone took a careful look, they all exchanged bewildered glances.
Finally, Xu Haishui spoke up hesitantly. "Brother Hai, that doesn’t seem like an easy place to hide, does it?"
In fact, Xu Haishui was being quite tactful. Among that cluster of low buildings, almost none were intact. At least half of them had collapsed.
The parts that hadn’t collapsed were riddled with holes. While you couldn’t see right through them, it was certainly impossible to hide an entire Mercenary Corps in a place like that.
What’s more, the enemy didn’t just have Mercenaries to hide, but Mechas as well.
An experienced Mercenary would rule out a place like that with a single glance.
Lin Xinghai’s brow furrowed. He didn’t answer Xu Haishui, but instead said to Ling Xiu, "Then look further along that direction. See if there’s anything wrong."
"Okay," Ling Xiu agreed, then immediately activated his Superpower, scanning inch by inch in the direction Lin Xinghai had indicated.
Although the Thousand-Mile Eye Superpower couldn’t achieve true x-ray vision, it could use light refraction to see objects behind buildings.
"Along that direction, within a five-kilometer radius, I still don’t see anything unusual," Ling Xiu said after a minute.
"If it’s not behind it, then it must be there." Far from being discouraged, Lin Xinghai’s tone became certain.
He said over the comms channel, "Zhang Meiling, use your Superpower to scout it out."
"Okay!" Zhang Meiling nodded immediately.
Even though everyone felt there was nothing unusual about the location, no one refuted Lin Xinghai’s judgment. Unwittingly, he had already established a certain authority.
Worst-case scenario, if his judgment was wrong, they would only waste a few minutes. That was far better than walking right into an ambush.
Zhang Meiling created a doppelgänger, which quickly jumped off the vehicle and ran into the distance.
Sitting in his Mecha, Fang Tianhe watched Zhang Meiling’s doppelgänger, his expression filled with amazement. Whether it was what he saw with his own eyes or the data from his sensors, he couldn’t find the slightest flaw.
At the same time, he realized the value of the Superpower Users in Lin Xinghai’s Affiliated Mercenary Corps.
In a volatile situation like this, the role they could play was undoubtedly huge. In Fang Tianhe’s opinion, Superpowers like these were much better than those of ordinary Superpower Users.
Ordinary Superpower Users only added combat strength, something he could easily replicate by just hiring more Mercenaries.
But these special Superpowers were not something that could be made up for by simply recruiting more Mercenaries.
Soon, Zhang Meiling’s doppelgänger reached the semi-collapsed buildings. Without a shred of hesitation, it fearlessly charged inside, disappearing into the visual blind spots.
However, to her disappointment, there wasn’t a single person in sight.
But out of trust for Lin Xinghai, she didn’t jump to conclusions. Instead, she did her best to find any trace or clue, like looking for footprints or signs of battle on the ground.
But the surroundings were perfectly normal. It was just a few dilapidated houses, without even a single Zombie.
However, as soon as she had that thought, Zhang Meiling realized something was off.
It wasn’t strange that there were no Zombies here, but it was strange that there wasn’t even a trace of Zombie activity. That seemed a bit abnormal.
After noticing this, she began observing even more meticulously.
The only thing she regretted now was that this doppelgänger couldn’t use Perception Power; otherwise, she felt she could have truly discovered something.
SNAP!
Suddenly, not far away, a wooden slat broke. It was a piece that had fallen off a wooden chair.
Although it had been severely corroded over the past 20 years, the break revealed that the core of the wood was still intact. For it to snap under these conditions, it was clearly caused by an external force.
Zhang Meiling’s pupils contracted at the sight.
But before she could even process it, the doppelgänger’s body was riddled with bullets.
