Invincible through Touching Corpses-Chapter 121 - 120: Strategic Discussion
When Lin Xinghai heard Fang Tianhe say that, he couldn’t hide his surprise. Twice their overall strength—that was an enormous gap.
"Is it really that bad?" Xu Haishui couldn’t help but ask. "They have more people, but they only have one more Mecha than us."
"Actually, twice as strong is just a conservative estimate. The reality is, the gap might be even wider," Shen Han spoke up this time. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
She looked at Xu Haushui and said coldly, "Don’t forget, our opponents this time aren’t Zombies that only know how to charge forward mindlessly. They’re Mercenaries."
"They use firearms. They take cover and use the terrain to their advantage. They even employ tactics and schemes. We have no experience with any of that, but the people the Morgan Conglomerate sent to the Wild Wolf Mercenary Corps have absolutely received professional training in these areas."
"And as for the Mecha, they’re not nearly as effective in a fight against humans as you might think. A single man-portable missile is all it takes to destroy one."
After hearing Shen Han’s analysis, the expressions of everyone present changed, except for Fang Tianhe’s.
"Man-portable missiles... How could they possibly..." Xu Haishui started to argue, but he trailed off and shut his mouth.
He had suddenly remembered that while their Mercenary Corps couldn’t get its hands on such advanced weaponry, that didn’t mean the Morgan Conglomerate couldn’t provide it.
Seeing that Xu Haishui had caught on, Shen Han continued, "That’s just one possibility. But even if they don’t have a trump card like man-portable missiles, attacks from their Hand Cannons alone can still have a significant impact on a Mecha."
At the mention of using Hand Cannons to attack a Mecha, Xu Haishui opened his mouth to object again, but he immediately shut it.
Normally, a Mecha is built from a specialized Alloy and should be able to completely withstand an attack from a Hand Cannon.
But that only applied to a single Hand Cannon Bullet. If they charged into the enemy’s formation during a real battle, they would definitely be hit with concentrated fire.
If a Mecha was hit by dozens, or even hundreds, of Hand Cannon Bullets, it wouldn’t come out unscathed, even if it wasn’t completely destroyed.
In short, fighting Mercenaries and fighting Zombies were two completely different things.
When fighting Zombies, they only needed to watch out for Mutated Zombies. But when fighting a Mercenary Corps, they had to be on guard against every single enemy Mercenary.
Because there was no telling which Mercenary might be holding a weapon that could turn the tide of battle.
Seeing that everyone now understood the difficulty of the coming battle, Fang Tianhe finally took the floor again. "So, in the plan we’ve devised, our priority is to attack the regular Mercenaries. In the best-case scenario, we’ll use the Mechas’ Micro Missiles for a wide-area bombardment..."
Fang Tianhe went on to explain a great deal more, even running several battle simulations on his wrist-mounted computer.
These simulations all led to one conclusion: if they could quickly eliminate most of the enemy Mercenaries in the Early Stage of the fight, they could seize control of the battle.
However, if they failed to achieve their strategic objective at the outset, the battle would drag on into the Middle or even Late Stage. At that point, the enemy’s numerical superiority would come into play, and the tables would be turned against them.
It was worth noting that in the parameters Fang Tianhe entered for the simulation, he set the combat effectiveness of the Mecha on both sides as equal.
In other words, even though the enemy had one more Mecha, Fang Tianhe was still confident he could handle it.
No one had any objections to the plan Fang Tianhe proposed. Lin Xinghai, however, sat to one side, listening in silence.
’This is all too sudden for me.’ He was only just beginning to adapt to the cruelty of this post-apocalyptic world.
Before, his opponents had been Zombies. Killing them didn’t give Lin Xinghai any psychological burden whatsoever.
But now that he was facing living, breathing people, he felt a deep-seated reluctance to confront them.
But he also knew that some things were simply out of his control.
Even if they didn’t want to fight, the Morgan Conglomerate and the Wild Wolf Mercenary Corps wouldn’t let them off the hook. If they wanted to live, they had to fight for their lives.
All sorts of thoughts raced through Lin Xinghai’s mind, and he quickly became a little distracted.
And just then, the topic of the meeting turned to him.
"Since the general plan is set, let’s discuss the details. Our Mercenary Corps has three Mecha in total. Shen Han and I will each pilot one."
"Who’s going to pilot the last one?" Fang Tianhe asked.
He seemed to be asking everyone in the room, but his gaze was actually fixed on Lin Xinghai.
It wasn’t just Fang Tianhe; everyone else’s eyes also fell upon Lin Xinghai.
Previously, they hadn’t considered letting Lin Xinghai pilot a Mecha because, as far as they knew, he had only broken one Genetic Lock and would have trouble unleashing the Mecha’s full power.
That was why Roger had been tentatively chosen for the role.
But now Lin Xinghai had also broken two Genetic Locks. And while he hadn’t undergone systematic training to pilot a Mecha, everyone had witnessed his uncanny ability to create miracles.
If Lin Xinghai were to say he wanted to pilot the Mecha, no one, not even Roger, would object.
Being the center of everyone’s attention made Lin Xinghai feel a little uneasy.
But he also understood that his decision could very well determine the course of this battle, so he had no choice but to consider it carefully.
’With my Perception Power, which is far beyond that of an ordinary person, I have a natural advantage when it comes to operating a Mecha. That was clear during the test drive when we bought it—I was able to draw out 100% of the Mecha’s performance.’
’But I also know Roger’s piloting skills are nothing to scoff at. After breaking his second Genetic Lock, he started practicing under Fang Tianhe’s guidance. He’s quite proficient with all the piloting techniques now.’
’I’m confident that with the advantage of my Perception Power, my combat effectiveness would be more than double Roger’s.’
’But without systematic training, that’s all it would amount to.’
’Would that really impact the overall battle?’
’It would, but it wouldn’t be decisive. It would only be equivalent to adding one more Mecha to our side.’
’If I pilot the Mecha, I’ll definitely become one of their main targets. That would severely restrict me.’
’But even without a Mecha, there’s a lot I can do with my Gun Technique and Speed. Especially against regular Mercenaries, I wouldn’t be much less effective than in a Mecha, and I could even make full use of my high mobility.’
’But Roger is a different story. If he doesn’t pilot the Mecha, the most he can contribute on the battlefield is the equivalent of two or three Mercenaries.’
So he quickly made his decision. "I suggest Roger pilot the Mecha. I’ll use high-speed flanking maneuvers to eliminate the enemy Mercenaries as quickly as possible."
Fang Tianhe looked at Lin Xinghai and, after a moment of thought, asked, "Within five minutes, how many members of the Wild Wolf Mercenary Corps can you take out?"
