Invincible Snake Emperor-Chapter 61: Multiple Factions
All at once, the two groups of Snake Catchers began to argue. To them, the Supreme Profound Snake represented far more than just a snake—it was a mansion on the move, and they had just spotted its tail.
In the face of absolute profit, any rules were as good as fiction.
The scene instantly descended into chaos. The two groups of Snake Catchers looked ready to come to blows, completely ignoring the Supreme Profound Snake at the center of it all.
"AARGH..."
No one knew who had screamed, but following the cry, a Snake Catcher collapsed.
"Damn it, the snake bit someone!"
The two groups were jolted back to reality. They had been far too dismissive of the Supreme Profound Snake. There it was, its petite body reared up, shimmering and translucent white. Its crystalline eyes shot out a cold glare.
A snake is one of the jungle’s most ferocious and insidious creatures. Even if you’re a Snake Catcher, and even if your target is a mere sixty centimeters long, you can’t afford to ignore it.
This was especially true for the Supreme Profound Snake, a rare, ancient Snake Species. Its miniature size by no means indicated a lack of ferocity.
The Supreme Profound Snake’s strike seemed to send a clear message: ’There’s a price to pay for ignoring me.’
Perhaps modern Snake Catchers had never witnessed the terror of the Supreme Profound Snake, but ancient Snake Catchers would never have been so careless around it. Its fine, all-white scales radiated a ghostly, cold dread. When it reared up to face you, it wasn’t a sign of provocation or vigilance; it meant that in its eyes, you were already a dead man.
Its venom was so potent it could kill a person with ease.
Only when a Snake Catcher collapsed did the two groups come to their senses, rushing to inspect the injured man’s wound.
The wound was on his calf, showing two distinct and very deep fang marks. In less than a minute, the area around the bite had turned dark.
Everyone’s brows furrowed. This wound was completely different from that of an ordinary venomous snake, and the speed at which the toxin spread was unprecedented. The venom had to be neutralized at once.
But the problem was, if this was the Supreme Profound Snake’s venom, there was no antivenom for it.
"Quick, take the antidote!"
A black pill was shoved into the injured man’s mouth. But after he swallowed it, his face only grew paler, and the dark patch of skin on his calf began to spread.
"Damn it, the antidote’s useless! We have to get him down the mountain, now!"
One of the leaders spoke up. "Let’s stop fighting. We’ll capture this Supreme Profound Snake together, and we’ll split the money from the sale evenly. If we keep this up, we’ll just attract other Snake Catchers, and things will get even more complicated."
First, catch the Supreme Profound Snake. Then, get the injured man down the mountain.
"WHEE... WHEE..."
The Supreme Profound Snake’s cry was quiet, almost a whisper, yet it carried an unmistakable chill.
"You little monster! How dare you hurt someone! You’re asking to die!"
Several Snake Hooks appeared, striking out at the Supreme Profound Snake.
...........
Meanwhile, a kilometer away, Tu Xiao’an was still without a single clue. He was starting to worry that the Supreme Profound Snake had already fallen into the hands of other Snake Catchers.
’She Mountain is huge. Catching a snake here depends on luck. If you can’t even find one, all the skill in the world is useless.’
Just as Tu Xiao’an was starting to get frustrated, a glittering golden bee flew in from the distance and hovered before his eyes.
"BZZZZ..."
Tu Xiao’an’s Snake Pupils instantly brightened. ’Excellent! I’ve found the Supreme Profound Snake!’
His gaze snapped in a specific direction. With a twist of his serpentine body, he shot forward like a bolt from a crossbow.
’As far as Tu Xiao’an was concerned, dealing with the Supreme Profound Snake was never the issue. As long as he could find it, it was as good as his.’
In just a few minutes, Tu Xiao’an covered the kilometer and slithered into a jungle clearing. He looked up and was stunned by the sight: six or seven Snake Catchers were all brandishing Snake Hooks, attacking a single tiny snake.
The miniature snake was as slippery as an eel, weaving and dodging between the Snake Catchers.
"Damn it, this snake is too nimble! Grab it, quick! Don’t let it break through our circle!"
The two groups of Snake Catchers had reached a consensus to share the Supreme Profound Snake. For them, time was now of the essence. They had to act fast, for two reasons: first, one of their own was injured and poisoned. Second, the area was crawling with other Snake Catchers, and more were bound to show up soon.
And sure enough, just as a certain Silver White Snake was quietly approaching, a new crowd of Snake Catchers arrived on the scene. The moment they saw the small, all-white snake, their eyes lit up with a crazed fervor. "The Supreme Profound Snake! It’s the Supreme Profound Snake!"
The faces of the Snake Catchers who had yet to capture it turned pale. ’It’s over. We’ve been discovered.’
In the span of a dozen breaths, a flood of Snake Catchers appeared from out of nowhere, surrounding the Supreme Profound Snake in layer after dense layer.
A glint of excitement flashed in every Snake Catcher’s eyes. To them, catching a snake wasn’t particularly difficult. You just had to grab it by the tail and give it a sharp flick; the snake would go limp, powerless to resist, and be easily captured.
Tu Xiao’an didn’t reveal himself. His Snake Pupils focused on the small snake in the center of the crowd, and his eyes narrowed.
DING!
Supreme Profound Snake, Level 9. An extremely rare ancient Snake Species. Incredibly venomous. A bite from it is incurable by conventional medicine.
’What? This tiny snake’s Level is even higher than mine?’ Tu Xiao’an was flabbergasted; his pride took ten thousand points of damage.
’He had seen all the Snake Catchers show up and was planning to just envelop the Supreme Profound Snake with his consciousness, silently absorb it into his system, and then slip away without a trace.’
’But now, it seemed he had been too naive.’
Since the Supreme Profound Snake’s Level was higher than his, he couldn’t use his consciousness to forcibly absorb it.
’If that’s the case, things are going to be a bit tricky.’
’As expected of an ancient Snake Species. It might look small, but good things come in small packages.’
At the same time, a new figure arrived in the jungle clearing: a young man with an extraordinary air about him. His attire was different from that of a typical Snake Catcher; dressed in casual sportswear and sneakers, he looked more like a tourist out for a hike.
This was Jiang Xingze, apprentice to Dr. Snake, Chen Mo, who had rushed here from Wencheng.
On his master’s orders, Jiang Xingze’s objective wasn’t to capture the Supreme Profound Snake. Instead, he was to use the commotion it caused to see if the rumored Vampire Snake would make an appearance.
After all, for a Vampire Snake, a rare Snake Species like the Supreme Profound Snake would be an incredibly nourishing prize.
But the moment he saw the Supreme Profound Snake, Jiang Xingze couldn’t suppress his own desire. He watched the crowd of Snake Catchers surrounding the miniature snake, unable to capture it after all this time, and sneered inwardly. ’These Snake Catchers from Bai Town are all talk and no action. Nothing special at all.’
’If I step in now and capture the Supreme Profound Snake, my reputation will skyrocket.’
’Besides, capturing the Supreme Profound Snake myself would make it even easier to lure out the Vampire Snake, wouldn’t it?’
Jiang Xingze prepared to make his move. And in the shadows, Tu Xiao’an prepared to do the same. ’I can’t just watch the Supreme Profound Snake fall into the hands of these Snake Catchers. With so many of them, its capture is only a matter of time. There’s no way it can escape.’
At the same time, many of the newly arrived Snake Catchers were also preparing to make their move. ’Whoever catches the Supreme Profound Snake gets to keep it. Move too slow, and you won’t even get the leftovers.’
Just as all sides were about to make their move, a fiery red shadow shot out from the grass in a fleeting glimpse, its speed like that of a phantom.
