Invincibility Begins with Mastery of Fist Techniques-Chapter 183 - 177: Setting Out
WHOOSH!
He shot to his feet. His immense Life Magnetic Field expanded violently, instantly enveloping the entire villa. The slightest disturbance could not escape his will.
However, there was nothing out of the ordinary, no suspicious individuals present.
If the voice hadn't been so real, he almost would have thought he was hallucinating.
He couldn't help but recall what Zhang Dongwei had once told him in the Kunlun Immortal Palace.
Back then, when Zhang Dongwei was old, his will had connected with the Natural Magnetic Field while he was practicing his Fist Technique. He, too, had heard this kind of unknown message. After receiving it, he had searched the entire mountain but found nothing unusual, as if the voice itself was some kind of law woven into nature.
And it was that very voice that revealed the existence of the Elixir of Immortality to him, ultimately leading him to the Kunlun Immortal Palace.
Now, the voice he was hearing seemed very similar to the one Zhang Dongwei had encountered.
'A Celestial Demon? Or some other entity with ulterior motives?'
This ability was simply inconceivable. Even he, who could guess some of the principles behind it, was completely incapable of replicating it.
A glint flashed in his eyes as he sat back down. He slowly spread out his Life Magnetic Field, allowing his will to reconnect with that special magnetic field suspected to be the National Fortune.
The anomalous magnetic field he had triggered had already vanished. However, another one was now floating in his perception. It seemed he had been disconnected for too long, as this new anomaly was already on the verge of disappearing completely.
"I am... at... Zixiao Mountain... waiting for you."
Zhou Yuanjue touched the anomalous magnetic field with his will. Because the fluctuations were about to fade away, most of the message was lost, and he could only make out a small part of it.
"Zixiao Mountain..."
Zhou Yuanjue narrowed his eyes slightly. He seemed to have heard of this mountain; it was in the outskirts of the Capital City. Apparently, it wasn't open to tourists, suggesting it housed some sort of secret agencies or units.
He mulled it over, considering the meaning of the message and whether he should go to Zixiao Mountain to meet the person who had sent it.
TAP, TAP, TAP!
Just then, the sound of footsteps approached, and Ning Muqing quickly walked in. Seeing the unusual expression on Zhou Yuanjue's face, she was a bit surprised and asked, "What's wrong? Did something happen?"
"It's nothing. How did your inquiries go?"
Zhou Yuanjue shook his head and asked Ning Muqing.
"I've found out. The Chief Commissioner left a message for you. He said he's waiting for you at Zixiao Mountain and that you can go see him anytime."
Ning Muqing said, a hint of anticipation in her eyes. 'The Chief Commissioner of the Secret Inspection Bureau... Just what kind of person is he?'
"Zixiao Mountain?"
Hearing the name of the place, a look of realization dawned on Zhou Yuanjue's face, yet even more questions flooded his mind.
'What is the background of this Chief Commissioner of the Secret Inspection Bureau?'
'Zixiao Mountain is at least several dozen kilometers away from my current location. To pull off something like that from such a distance...'
Zhou Yuanjue grew even more interested in this Chief Commissioner.
"When are we leaving?"
Ning Muqing asked.
"Now."
Zhou Yuanjue said, his expression calm.
...
...
On the way to Zixiao Mountain, Zhou Yuanjue had Ning Muqing use her security clearance to pull up some relevant intelligence.
The area within a ten-kilometer radius of Zixiao Mountain was indeed a restricted zone, requiring an extremely high-level pass to enter. It housed the research facilities of the Secret Inspection Bureau. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
In other words, all supernatural research—on Celestial Demons, Symbionts, Dharma Artifact development, and so on—was conducted within that secret restricted zone.
This seemed somewhat incredible. After all, this was the Capital City. Celestial Demons, especially Void Celestial Demons, were extremely dangerous. If an accident occurred at such a research lab and a Celestial Demon escaped into the Capital City, it would create a massive hidden threat.
If a Celestial Demon possessed some high-ranking official, there was no telling what kind of terrifying things could happen.
It could lead to a national catastrophe.
And yet, this very research base was built right next to the Capital City.
Perhaps it was the presence of that Chief Commissioner that led the higher-ups to make such a decision. From this, one could also see the trust the leadership had in this person's abilities and character.
A titan among men, a cornerstone of the nation.
Zhou Yuanjue recalled Tu Junshan's description of the Chief Commissioner, and his understanding deepened.
'To think that such a person still exists in this day and age.'
'It's truly incredible.'
Ning Muqing drove, passing through checkpoint after checkpoint, until the two of them finally arrived at the foot of Zixiao Mountain.
"Come up the mountain."
Just as they crossed into the restricted zone, a voice suddenly echoed in Zhou Yuanjue's mind as he sat in the car.
This time, the voice was no longer a faint fluctuation like that anomalous magnetic field, but a clear message transmitted directly into his mind.
Zhou Yuanjue narrowed his eyes. At that moment, he seemed to sense something and looked toward the summit of Zixiao Mountain.
Faintly, he could detect some kind of immense presence coiling at the peak.
He seemed to see a long dragon, formed from the same heavy, immense, special magnetic field he had felt before, wrapped tightly around Zixiao Mountain.
A coiled dragon, a crouching tiger.
He glanced at Ning Muqing driving in front of him and saw her expression was normal. Clearly, she couldn't hear the voice. 'Perhaps only a Saint Awakening like me, with such a keen sense for changes in the Natural Magnetic Field, could perceive that anomalous sound.'
The car stopped at the foot of the mountain, surrounded by a research base. Ning Muqing was waiting for staff from the base to receive them, as trespassing in a restricted zone of this level would cause huge problems.
"You wait here. I'm going on ahead."
Just then, she suddenly heard Zhou Yuanjue's voice.
"Go? Go where? Don't do anything rash! This place is heavily guarded, with sentries everywhere. They don't know who you are; there could be trouble."
Hearing Zhou Yuanjue's words, Ning Muqing was shocked and quickly turned back to dissuade him.
However, when she turned around, she found the back seat empty. Zhou Yuanjue's figure was long gone.
'When did he leave? How did I not sense it? Did he affect my Life Magnetic Field to cloud my senses?'
Ning Muqing hurriedly got out of the car and looked around. The surrounding guards looked normal; one even gave her a salute.
Zhou Yuanjue had vanished like smoke.
'This kind of ability...'
Ning Muqing took a deep breath. She finally understood why the higher-ups were as wary of people like him as they would be of a tiger, and yet also invested heavily in cultivating them.
'This is no longer human. No wonder people like this in ancient times called themselves Immortals.'
