Chapter 113 - Chilling out

I flipped through my mail. For once a normal Courier delivered my mail. I was forming a theory about who that weird Courier was. Next time I see them I think I will just ask. As for my actual mail though.

Most of my mail was updates from Sorex, the Caravan and even Derkeethus had sent a letter. Apparently they are already excavating and the Caravan has sent members to help.

General Tullius congratulated me for my supposed antics. Reports of a squadron of soldiers on the back of a dragon flying past the Stormcloaks caused them to back off the mission for the jagged crown.

This confirmed that there was no player within the Stormcloaks at least. Although his note was encrypted again. It hinted at Stormcloak reinforcements to Winterhold. Telling me to handle them any way I see fit.

I checked my notepad, I had collected all the ingredients from Enthir. He had managed to get them all in an incredibly short period of time which made me impressed. I took the research note I gave Arniel back. I had even collected the Shalidor's Insights I had given to Urag. Apparently Glamoril wasn't an artifact, but a scroll. The insights were encoded in a riddle so I would need to solve it to find whatever Glamoril really was.

I marked off several check marks and was left with the tasks Viree was doing. She had yet to return, but it made sense as I was pretty sure she was traveling the ice fields to the Signus outpost. Kyne was with her too, so I doubted the two would get into any trouble.

I found Stephan on the bridge of the college. "What are you doing?"

He tossed a stone into the ground far below. "Just throwing rocks. Bored out of my mind."

I raised an eyebrow, "Couldn't you just train?"

He waved, "You can only train so much until your arms hurts. What are you doing?"

I raised my notebook, "Going over my checklist. Adding somethings, marking off others."

He laughed, "Man, you know exactly what you want to do."

I sat down next to him and pulled out Patchwork Cloak and some of the dragon skin I picked up off the ground. The skeleton still sat in the center of the college and some of the members were studying it.

The source of this c𝐨ntent is freeweɓnovēl.coɱ.

Stephan looked over at me and choked. "Oh god, what is that cloak?"

I raised up a sewing needle I made from a chip of dragon bone. "Got it off a giant, it is made up of varying leathers."

He laughed, "That is clearly human skin."

I nodded, "Some of it is, but I plan on adding some other leathers to it."

He pointed, "Like dragon scales?"

I nodded once more, "It has an effect based on the leather it is made of. By adding new leathers, I hope to unlock the needlework skill tree and increase the effect the cloak gives."

Stephan pointed, "Looking at it makes me sick."

I nodded, "I keep it in my belt, it prevents that feeling."

Stephan turned away and threw another rock. This time it splashed into the water below. I worked the needle through the dragon scales as he spoke. "Tell me about the games."

I paused my work as I looked over at him. "Which part?"

Stephan tossed another rock, "Tell me about Kyne, what his destiny would be if I couldn't help him."

I stretched the needle through the cloak. "Let's start with where we are now. Normally he would've needed to acquire the horn of Jurgen Windcaller. However currently we are using our location to skip that step for now. You two will have to return to this step, however if we go in sequence."

I nodded my head back and forth on how to describe the most annoying quests of the main quest. "You would get to where the horn is located and find it stolen. Following a note you would meet a bitch named Delphine. She would force Kyne to prove he could absorb a dragon soul despite obvious proof. After this you would infiltrate the thalmor embassy and locate a man named Esbern. You can skip this step too, I will just tell you the location of Esbern so you don't have to do all that other shit."

Stephan nodded, "Which is?"

I continued, "Esbern is in the Riften Ratway Warrens, you will likely have to negotiate with the Thieves guild, the Thieves guild player or just blitz the place. After Esbern you talk about plans eventually heading to this sky temple haven place. To cut a ton of events short, and remove some spoilers you may want to find out yourself. You learn you need an Elderscroll to teach Kyne an ancient shout invented by humans."

Stephan seemed to recall something, "Could you teach him this shout?"

I stitched another part of the cloak together and nodded. "I can teach the words, not the understanding. The shout isn't completed for me. So you get the idea."

Stephan nodded, "What part do you not understand? Shouts are made of three words right?"

Most were, but I didn't correct him. "Yeah, ironically apparently I don't have a deep enough understanding of the word mortal in Dovahzul."

He laughed, "What part of mortal do you not understand."

I shrugged, "Likely identification of my own mortality. Getting back on track though."

Stephan nodded as I continued from before. "The acquisition of the Elderscroll is a whole process, but during it the dragonborn gains the attention of Hermaeus Mora."

Stephan paused, "I thought you said there was something else to be acquired there?"

I nodded, "A book, by the way, you two will deliver it to me."

He looked, "Why?"

I laughed, "Kyne will tell you why, Trust me. As for the Elderscroll the process doesn't matter to much, but you two will likely need to acquire it. Though I have a feeling that will be much harder to get than in the games. From there Kyne reads the scroll at the Throat of the world."

Stephan interrupted me, "I'm going to guess you are going to skip ahead to the shout?"

I nodded, "Kyne learns the shout after using the scroll, Alduin shows up to try and kill the dragonborn. He fails, thanks to the shout, and runs of to Sovengarde to eat tasty human souls."

I paused, "In your quest you should complete the companions quest before this. You will get a powerful ally during the fight."

I ran out of dragon scales to sew and took out the defender's hide. While I paused Stephan spoke, "Should we really just leave him to do that as we complete the Companions quest?"

I looked at Stephan, "What? Oh, complete the companions quest before using the elderscroll. After killing Alduin, well you would be home free. Kyne though..."

Stephan shifted, "Hermaeus Mora comes for him or something?"

I shook my head as I continued my work. "Nah, cultists. Hermaeus Mora has a disappointing son named Miraak. The guy is planning a rebellion and Hermaeus Mora plans on replacing Miraak with Kyne."

Stephan frowned, "Which is where I come in?"

I nodded, "Theoretically Kyne can skip being bound to Hermaeus Mora if you take his place."

His frown grew, "What do you mean?"

I paused and thought about my words. "Black books, you will need to read them for Kyne and kill Miraak alone."

He blinked, "Won't that mean I replace Miraak?"

I laughed, "No, this is where it gets complicated. You will need to write down some Thu'um for Kyne to learn. This will teach him the shout Bend Will, he should be able to just mediate on the words to learn them. While you fight Miraak, Kyne would be using Bend Will on you to prevent any madness, enslavement or death within the realm of Oblivion. After all it is your mind that is transported not your body."

He frowned as he stared at me, "I want you to know that sounds fucked up."

I nodded, "I never said it was easy."

I lifted up the Patchwork Cloak and inspected the effects. I smiled at the two added species. I didn't unlock needlework though. Perhaps I needed to do a little more. "Hey, want your armor fixed?"

Stephan looked over at me, "Wh-What? I mean, why do you ask?"

I tilted my head, "Trying to unlock a skill tree called Needlework. You see I can make armor and stuff with smithing. However I realized thanks to another player that smithing was just one piece of creating armor."

It was likely why my armor wasn't exactly special. "That and I figured it might help in other aspects. Such as stringing bows and crossbows, patching clothes and sleeping bags, perhaps embroidery."

Stephan nodded, "You could likely stitch wounds too."

This was true, but I denied his idea. "Possible, not ideal though. Healing spells and potions are better. While stitching wounds might help the process, I would need a compound silk that could be safely absorbed by the skin or removed from the wound."

Stephan nodded and returned to facing forward. "Any tips on how I can get stronger?"

I laughed, "I already told you how, complete the companions guild. I don't want to spoil it, but let's just say you might want to pick up a blunt weapon rather than that sword."

Stephan suddenly snapped his head toward me, "Wait, are the companions werewolves?"

I began to laugh even harder, "How did you get there? I mean you are right, but damn."

Stephan shook his head, "Is that why Viree used those hammers?"

I nodded, "Nah, she just likes smashing stuff."

He stared down below us before he paused, "She smash you yet?"

I punched Stephan in the ribs. "Gah!"
