Chapter 211: She is going to return him

"Y-Your Majesty...!"

"Something terrible has happened—"

"The young master... he’s been returned!"

"He’s back..."

The Wolf King, who had only just recovered from his injuries after the war with the insectoid armies and had hoped to finally enjoy a peaceful sleep, jolted upright in bed the moment he heard those words.

"What did you just say?" He grabbed the First Elder’s arm tightly. "Xarion... has been returned?"

The First Elder looked as though he might burst into tears. "Just now, some clan members rushed over to report it. They said the young master has come back. What else could it mean except that he was returned?"

The Wolf King felt a sharp ache in his chest. His head throbbed too.

For a moment, he thought he might meet the Beast God on the spot.

After a brief pause, he quickly ordered the First Elder, "You’re good with words. Hurry and contact Xarion’s female master. Ask her why she sent him back. If there’s anything she’s dissatisfied with, she can tell us! The Snow Domain will meet any condition!"

"Just ask her to take Xarion back with her!"

Before he could say anything else, a voice suddenly boomed from outside.

"Ray! I’ve brought my female master back. Why haven’t you come out to greet her yet?!"

The Wolf King nearly died from sheer filial devotion. He turned to the First Elder with a furious expression. "Did you hear what that brat just said? He told me to come out and greet him? This is complete disrespect!"

"Don’t stop me—I’m going out there right now to beat him to death! Today I’ll show him exactly why the Snow Domain is so cold."

The First Elder watched the king, who was fuming and pretending to storm out. He knew the Wolf King was only putting on a show for the sake of dignity.

With Xarion’s bizarre and terrifying abilities, who would actually dare hit him?

The king certainly wasn’t foolish.

"Your Majesty, please calm down first." The First Elder hurriedly stepped forward and pretended to restrain him, giving the king a graceful way to step back.

"Your Majesty... I believe the young master just said that he... brought his female master with him?"

The Wolf King froze mid-stride.

He blinked and stared blankly at the First Elder. "What did you say? Xarion brought his female master here?"

The First Elder nodded. "Yes, that’s exactly what the young master said." "Disaster... this is a disaster..."

The Wolf King began pacing in anxious circles. "This must be a face-to-face return. What are we supposed to do now? The Snow Domain has only just enjoyed a short period of peace!"

Even the insectoid invasion hadn’t been as destructive as Xarion alone.

From outside, Xarion’s voice echoed again like a demon’s roar.

"King! What are you dawdling for?"

The Wolf King looked as if he might cry. "What should we do?! First Elder, think of something!" We can’t seriously make the entire clan move away, can we?"

After all, what place could possibly suit the Snow Wolves better than the Snow Domain?

The First Elder was anxious as well—but he truly couldn’t think of a solution.

"Your Majesty... perhaps we should go out first and discuss things with the young master’s female master? When I escorted the young master to his marriage before, I met Miss Roanna. She’s very beautiful, gentle in temperament, and quite reasonable. We can’t keep hiding in here forever."

The Wolf King pressed his lips together, as if making a difficult decision. "...You’re right. Let’s go out. We can’t keep a lady waiting. We’ll talk to her properly. As long as she takes Xarion away again, I’ll give her every treasure the wolf clan possesses!"

Consider it paying money to avert disaster.

Anything was better than relocating the entire clan.

"Oh—and I should pretend to be weak. Pitiful. If I look miserable enough, the young lady might be easier to persuade."

After saying this, he instructed the First Elder, "You must cooperate with me. Say that I was severely injured during the war with the insectoids. Don’t let anything slip."

The First Elder nodded solemnly. "Don’t worry, Your Majesty. I’ll support you fully."

***

Outside, Rory sat beside Yuel, quietly observing the grand hall before her.

The house built from black spatial stone was astonishing.

Inside, it resembled the Hunter Alliance headquarters she had seen before.

There were miniature landscapes—mountains, streams, enclosures filled with exotic beasts and plants—and in the center stood an enormous, elegant residence.

They were currently seated in the living room of that house.

Xarion had explained that his father built it for his mother.

However, fifty years ago, his mother had gone to live with another mate and would not return for another ten years.

"Father, you—"

Seeing that his father still hadn’t come out, Xarion opened his mouth to call again.

But Jasper quickly stopped him. "Let’s wait a moment," he said calmly. "The Wolf King may be busy with something else."

He knew Xarion’s mouth rarely produced anything remotely polite.

Still, he did not expect Xarion to speak to his own father like that.

Frankly, he couldn’t blame the Wolf King for not wanting to come out. If he were the Wolf King, he wouldn’t want to deal with Xarion either.

Beside them, Nix leaned toward Xarion and whispered quietly.

"Xarion, you talk to your father like that and you’re not afraid he’ll beat you to death?" Nix asked under his breath.

Xarion was sprawled lazily across the chair that clearly belonged to the Wolf King. Without even opening his eyes, he replied in his usual lifeless tone,

"He can’t beat me... and he wouldn’t dare."

Nix looked at him with undisguised admiration. "I wish I had an ability like yours."

If he possessed powers like Xarion’s, he thought, he could cause trouble all he wanted—no one would dare lay a hand on him.

Rory, however, watched Xarion with a curious smile.

"Xarion, what exactly did you do to make the wolves this terrified of you?"

When Xarion claimed he had done nothing, Rory simply didn’t believe him.

Just as Xarion straightened up to answer, the First Elder suddenly appeared from the inner hall, carefully supporting someone as they walked out.

It was the Wolf King.

Bandages wrapped across his body. His complexion was pale as snow, and he looked gravely wounded.

The moment Xarion saw his father, he sprang out of the chair and strode toward him.

"What happened to you?"

The lazy tone from before vanished. His voice now carried a sharp edge of danger.

"Did the insectoids do this?"

Even Yuel was startled by how serious the Wolf King’s injuries appeared.

He had been closely monitoring the situation in the Snow Domain. The Wolf King had indeed been wounded during the war—but those injuries had been minor.

Moreover, Yuel had already sent his healing flowers long ago. Logically, the Wolf King should have fully recovered by now.

Seeing Xarion’s expression turn cold with concern, the Wolf King felt a flicker of unexpected warmth in his chest.

Although that troublesome son drove him mad most of the time...

Well. At least there was still a trace of filial feeling in him.

"Ahem..." Supported by the First Elder, the Wolf King coughed weakly and waved Xarion off. "I’m fine. Don’t worry. It looks worse than it is. A few days of rest and I’ll recover."

Then his gaze shifted to Rory standing beside them. His expression softened immediately.

"You must be Miss Roanna. The First Elder told me about you after returning last time. He said you are a wonderful young lady. For my son Xarion to have a female master like you... that is his good fortune."

"It’s nice to meet you, Father. You can call me Rory."

Seeing how severely injured he looked, Rory quickly motioned for Xarion to help him sit down.

But the Wolf King weakly avoided Xarion’s outstretched hand.

"I’m fine. No need to sit."

He turned back to Rory, his voice growing even more frail.

"Miss Rory, I sincerely welcome you and your companions to the Snow Domain. However... I heard from my clan members that you came here to send Xarion back."

"Miss Rory, I have only this one son. Yes, he can be rather troublesome. But his strength is undeniable. And the Snow Domain has a long-standing rule—once a son is married out, he cannot return. If you truly send him back..."

The Wolf King sighed deeply, looking as though he might collapse at any moment. "...then I will have no face left to remain as Wolf King. In that case, I can only take him and leave the Snow Domain... and wander the world in exile."
