Inheriting a Lost Bloodline, My First Task is to have heirs?!-Chapter 664 - The Saintess of Radical Changes (Part 2)
Now that we have tackled a little bit about where they can get more income and more food, I want to now discuss the most concerning thing that I have heard so far based on the reports provided by Noir and Void. They should be prepared since I do not plan on being less blunt than I was from the start.
After they have digested the suggestions I provided for some of their most basic problems, I asked the more heavier question. It was of course directed to the pope himself as I asked, "Why does this religion have to send out their priests in disguise to get pregnant with who knows which woman and return to the church, leaving their supposed to be wife somewhere?"
The pope and even the elders looked stunned at first. I literally heard their hearts skipped a beat at my question. Since nobody answered even after a few seconds, I added another question, "Why can’t you just bring those women here to help you rear the children. Maybe they will have even more children together in the future. Isn’t that a better long term solution to having members or working hands available?"
I know this would be a heavy topic and I might hear even more ridiculous things now that I am inside the source of these all these ridiculousness but it has to be discussed nonetheless. I waited patiently for someone to answer and finally the pope had breathed in to calm himself as he responded, "Only the saintess is allowed to live within the temple premises. We can’t have those women live here as well."
I chuckled at the stupidity of the whole situation as I responded in a mocking manner, the tone of my voice a little annoyed, "Your territory is huge. You can create a village outside the main temple area. The priests can come home to their wives in the evening and just come back to the temple in the morning for work just like normal workers in other places. In this manner, you can also keep the female children and these children will eventually choose one of the future priests as their husband. The women can also take on other tasks like farming, taking care of animals, baking, cooking, sewing, managing store fronts, etc. Doesn’t it solve so many things at once?"
The pope couldn’t help but nod his head in understanding as I described the picture of a future where families did not have to be torn apart, an economy thriving and a steady influx of new members. The man looked at me and responded, "I think that is a viable plan. Can you help us make it happen?"
It is too late for those couples that have already been separated by the previous laws but we can make it happen for the future couples. I am not saying we shouldn’t try to invite the other women taking care of the female children that was left with them or the priests that have chosen to leave the order but we can only try.
All of a sudden, the five elders stood up and then took a step back. Without warning they fell to their knees and made a full kowtow towards my direction while begging for me to take the position of the saintess and that they agree to all my plans to change their way of life.
All I could think of was, "This is easier than I thought." I guess they are really in a very desperate situation already so it was easier to convince them. I think I have a talent of painting a beautiful future too so they believed everything I said.
With five old men kowtowing and with their vow of full obedience, I eventually agreed to accept the position of saintess with the condition that I will not be required to stay in this territory. I will stay whenever I have the time to visit but I will be free to go wherever I want to go when I feel like it.
They looked reluctant but they still agreed. I did not miss that glint in their eyes though as if they have already been planning of ways to make me come back more often or even stay longer whenever I visit.
I naughtily burst their bubble with a chuckle and told them that this time, I will only be staying for a week which included my wedding with Clarence and also my honeymoon. I did promise to do as many tasks as I could during my stay to get the plans started.
As I was too engrossed with the discussion, I totally forgot about the koala that is currently hugging my right arm. I looked sideways to see what he is busy about and I was surprised to meet Clarence’s eyes which were looking at me with adoration and fondness that it felt like he was bathing in honey.
It felt weird but I was not grossed about it one bit. I actually found it funny and kind of endearing. I would never say that to him though because I do not want him to feel overconfident.
Since the difficult topics and one of the main reasons I visited this place was out of the way, it was time to present the gifts I prepared for my soon-to-be husband’s huge family. I never thought that my gift would be such an appropriate answer to what they needed the most.
I changed the topic and asked about when the wedding would be and I could feel Clarence shiver next to me. As to which is it between fear or excitement, I do not know since he seem to fear his grandfather more than respect him.
The wedding was set 3 days from today so that there will be ample preparation for the rituals and the wedding hall. The pope honestly told me that this is the first wedding they will be having in the church since the previous saintesses never married any of their partners and only had children with them. They knew it was inappropriate but since they always deemed the saintesses as reincarnation of the goddess they vowed obedience to, their word was final.
