Chapter 208: The Round of 8, Cao Xian Versus Hu Lili! 1

The aftermath of Lin Yan’s death was not explosive, but rather deathly silent, and it was the kind of silence that was left when a person suddenly came face to face with a predator that was near them, freezing in place as they rapidly processed how best to react.

Li Ling casually looked at the stunned Divine Deva Overseer, who was more shocked than terrified, and spoke calmly. "Senior, aren’t you going to call it?"

The Divine Deva Overseer snapped out of his stupor and looked at Li Ling deeply before turning to glance at the Sect Master to see his reaction.

Ming Yue was calm as always, seated in a lazy posture as he overlooked a bunch of peons competing against each other, with only some special ones that caught his eyes giving him any form of entertainment.

When the fellow looked over, he simply raised his eyebrows and waved a hand lazily. "Call it."

Getting confirmation from the Sect Master, the Divine Deva Overseer felt a tremor in his heart because this also confirmed Li Ling’s own words that sect rules didn’t matter to him.

"The round of sixteen has come to an end, and the following candidates have advanced: Cao Xian, Wang Feng, Hu Lili, Bei Dongshi, Shi Gaolin, Bai Yegui, Shen Jian, and Li Ling!"

Usually, there would be cheering and clapping by this point, but the silence remained as everyone showed deeply complex expressions.

It might seem strange for a demonic sect to be hung up on such behavior, but they were labeled as a demonic sect because they practiced cultivation methods that required harming others for their own benefit.

Just because one was a demonic cultivator didn’t mean that they needed to be cartoonishly evil and harm everyone for the sake of just being bad. It was more about calculated harm and being ruthless more than anything, but Li Ling’s actions were, in the eyes of others, purely malice for the sake of malice.

Did that make him a ’true demonic cultivator’?

Not at all, for it simply made him a madman.

And madmen were usually feared and hated by both righteous and demonic factions alike, for there was no telling what they would do next, and they were often the greatest calamities faced by the Tian Ming Continent.

The Divine Deva Overseer manipulated the arena formations and narrowed the rings down into four solid ones, calling out names one by one.

"First match, Cao Xian versus Hu Lili!"

The crowd finally buzzed slightly, seeing the two pure beauties approach the arena with their confident demeanors, not believing they would lose out to any of their peers.

"Cao Xian, huh? She is rich and has created a lot of crazy tools, but most of them are expendable. Can she really overwhelm a crazy brawler like Hu Lili?"

"I also doubt her chances, to be honest. Hu Lili simply has more untapped potential that none have been able to bring out so far."

The majority of spectators felt this way, and so did the upper echelon.

"Hall Master Cao Tian, it seems your little sister has encountered quite the obstacle this time, hahaha!" Hu Wulei laughed uproariously, not giving any face to his fellow peer.

Cao Tian harrumphed coldly. "Of course, a brute like you only sees pure strength and doesn’t understand nuance. Don’t worry, my junior sister will soon carve the lesson onto you and your daughter’s bones."

In the middle stands, there was a bit of chatter.

"Path Elder Cao Ling, aren’t you going to advise your daughter to step down before her pretty face gets clawed to pieces?" Path Saint Wang Kuangnu asked with a grin.

Cao Ling glanced at Wang Kuangnu askance. "I hope you can smile the same way in a few minutes."

And on the stage, the two ladies faced off directly.

Hu Lili entered her Tiger Battle stance with her claws unfurled right away. "Hey, you are one of the top talents of this competition, and I watched your fights. You have been holding back a lot, haven’t you? Let’s go all out and have fun!"

Cao Xian saw Hu Lili get serious and felt deeply emotional. "Too many people misunderstand the power of the True Human Hall and call us the weakest without understanding that we are the hall that props up the entire sect in the shadow."

Cao Xian closed her eyes and released a breath. "Today, I will show you all why we are the strongest hall among the Six Paths!"

Saying this, Cao Xian shocked everyone by charging forward toward Hu Lili, an act that was seen as suicidal by all viewers, as her best action would have been to stay back and unveil her tools and equipment slowly to pressure Hu Lili.

Hu Lili was also startled, but grinned widely as she charged forward with even faster speed, staying close to the ground and almost running on all fours.

Seeing this, Cao Xian smiled and made a hand sign that was half of the ’heart’ symbol meeting a flat palm, her Dharma Power surging crazily out of her body.

Immediately, Li Ling, Bai Yegui, and Bei Dongshi, who had been casually watching, jumped to attention with looks of shock on their faces. After all, they were the only ones with Daoist arts that required hand signs, a sign of comprehending a power that was not only somewhat unique, but transcended normal Daoist arts.

"Impossible!" Bai Yegui called out with bloodshot eyes, not believing that a girl like Cao Xian, whom he had thought was the weakest among their ’named talents’ group, was actually a divine-level dark horse.

"The threads of karma... I see. Truly... shocking." Bei Dongshi murmured to himself as he glanced above Cao Xian’s head to watch her karmic lines, but what he saw left him confused.

"Hmm, now that’s how to surprise a crowd! But it’s not enough to know a special Daoist art; it has to actually be useful," Li Ling commented casually, watching with a little bit more interest.

Cao Xian neared Hu Lili and seemed defenseless, still mustering power that surged around her body and entered an unknown void.

Hu Lili did not pause or second-guess her opponent’s intentions, immediately unleashing her own casual strike to probe what kind of defenses Cao Xian had before she would unleash her truly hard-hitting blows.

Finally, Cao Xian spoke. "True Human Way: Hungry Ghost Simulacrum!"

Just before Hu Lili struck, a pair of pink-colored, translucent hands made of yin power emerged around Cao Xian, striking forth to clash with Hu Lili’s attack.

THUMP!

One of the two conjured hands shattered into pieces, but Hu Lili was knocked back a few steps, her arms trembling from the recoil while her eyes showed shock.

It wasn’t just her, but the entire crowd as well.

"What!! What the hell! How could this even be possible!"

"Am I losing my mind, or did I just witness a True Human Hall disciple utilize the Hungry Ghost Avatar?!"

"How?! I can sense she still has the True Human Way Dharma Power in her, so how can she manifest the Hungry Ghost Avatar at this level?!"

The disciples were completely in an uproar, many standing to their feet in shock, while the elders were suspicious but less shaken.

"It can’t be, can it? How long has it been since one of them popped up in our sect?"

"A miracle! I never thought we’d get to see another disciple master this truly difficult art in my lifetime!" 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

The Hall Masters were shocked as well.

"What the hell is that? Is she cheating or what?" Hu Wulei asked with wide eyes, not willing to believe what he was seeing.

Meanwhile, Cao Tian snorted arrogantly. "I don’t blame you for thinking so, because I only recently learned of this secret Daoist art of our hall. Now witness the superiority of the True Human Hall!"

The Path Elders and Path Saints, though, were completely shaken but not clueless.

"Tsk, old Wang, it seems you have kicked an iron plate today," Sha Ren teased with a grin.

Wang Kuangnu narrowed her eyes coldly. "Indeed, who knew that those sketchy fellows of the True Human Hall would hide a talent with this ability."

Pang Po chuckled. "Come on, Sister Wang, you can’t say it like that. Every tournament and sect gathering between the Six Paths, my hall is always treated like beasts of burden. It’s about time to show our fangs, isn’t it?"

Meanwhile, Sect Master Ming Yue raised an eyebrow, his eyes finally showing some light.

"What is with this generation? The Immortal World announces the Seventh Inter-World War that will start in a hundred years, and in less than a decade since then, the Heavenly Mandate Dao Child is born, and my sect also begins spitting out supreme talents in each of the Six Paths."

Despite saying this, Ming Yue didn’t smile, but his expression became somber.

"They say the emergence of talents precedes the arrival of calamity, which is true. But we have never seen so many talents born on this scale across the continent, much less in one place."

Ming Yue wore a difficult expression on his face. "Just... just what kind of calamity will this war bring to our world?"
