Chapter 245: The World Can Wait

"But if we don’t get up now, I’ll never leave this bed," Elowen whispered, voice low against Ethan’s shoulder.

"Yeah," he murmured back, smiling faintly. "Maybe not a terrible idea."

"Except the fact that the rest of the world doesn’t exist when I’m with you."

"It could exist. Later."

"Mmm. Tempting. And I would love to stay, but... if I do, then you’re getting no breakfast."

"I wouldn’t complain."

"Yes, you would."

Ethan chuckled, running a hand through her hair. The strands slipped between his fingers like silk.

Elowen leaned up and kissed his cheek, then slid out of the sheets with a quiet stretch. Her hair fell down her back as she padded across the warm bedroom floor toward the bathroom, letting out a small yawn.

Ethan watched her, still half-asleep.

"Coming?" she asked, glancing over her shoulder.

"Yeah, yeah," he muttered, forcing himself to sit up. "You know that I am not a morning person."

"You’re not? I didn’t think that was the case when I woke up" she laughed as she looked at where his cock is still semi hard as one of her hands turned on the water.

"You’re the one who got spoiled first thing in the morning."

He stepped into the bathroom and wrapped his arms around her waist from behind. "True."

They didn’t take long—just a quick rinse—warm water, soft skin, sleepy glances. No rush. No dragging either. It was just... easy.

Elowen handed him a towel, which he was already drying off with. "You’re always this slow in the mornings?"

"Only when I sleep too well."

She smirked. "You’re welcome."

Once dressed—him in a simple dark shirt and pants, her in a soft tunic and loose braid—they stepped out into the hall together.

The sunlight poured through the high windows, stretching long across the polished floor. The scent of breakfast was already drifting up from below—something with eggs and bread, probably warm fruit too.

They walked side by side down the staircase. Elowen’s hand brushed his once or twice, but she didn’t hold it.

Not because she was distant. Just because she didn’t need to, the air between them was already warm.

In the dining room, Evelyn and Everly were already seated at the long table.

Evelyn looked up first. "Morning."

Everly grinned. "Took your time."

Ethan gave a lazy grin back. "Slept in."

Elowen added calmly, "I take full responsibility."

The twins exchanged a glance, a flicker of surprise in their eyes, but nothing more. No teasing. No questions. Just quiet acceptance.

Everly patted the empty seat beside her. "Come eat. The eggs are still warm."

Ethan slid into the chair across from them while Elowen took the one beside him. The table was already full—steamed greens, fruit, roasted potatoes, and a mild stew kept warm under a dome lid—simple food, but good.

They ate without much talk at first, just enjoying the food. Eventually, conversation returned—light, casual.

Everly discussed a new book she discovered in the archives. Evelyn mentioned a letter from the academy confirming final riot scores, though she hadn’t opened it yet.

Ethan leaned back, relaxed. "Feels weird," he said. "Being this calm."

Everly sipped her tea. "You’d prefer it not being peaceful at breakfast?"

He laughed. "Not exactly. But I’m not used to this much peace without something exploding after."

Evelyn reached over and flicked his forehead. "No explosions, just soup."

It was the kind of morning that didn’t pretend to be special, but somehow still was. Calm in a way that didn’t feel empty.

When the meal ended, Elowen stood up, brushing her hands lightly. "I’ve got a few things to check on in the garden."

"Want help?" Ethan asked.

She smiled softly. "Not this time. You’ve got somewhere else to be."

He nodded.

The twins didn’t say anything, but Everly gave him a tiny thumbs-up before returning to her teacup.

Ethan left soon after. The air outside was crisp but not cold, the kind of fresh that made your lungs pause.

The path to the Nocturne estate wasn’t long, but he took his time as he made sure to let the vehicle AI go slow.

And with him not having to think about the college exams, it felt like it was a completely new him.

By the time he reached the mansion gates, they had already opened as the cameras near the mansion were under the AI bulter of the Nocturne family’s control so it could tell who is coming and who is going.

Inside, the sitting hall felt still. Lilith was there, lounging in a velvet chair with a book in her lap, one leg crossed over the other.

Her silver-white hair was tied loosely back, a soft glow resting on her skin from the nearby fireplace.

She looked up. "Back already?"

Ethan nodded. "Yeah. Had breakfast with Elowen and the twins."

Seraphina entered from the side hall, tablet in hand. "Was it good?"

"Yeah," he said. "Peaceful. We even slept in."

Liliana’s voice came from the top of the stairs. "A rare miracle."

Ethan looked up. "Yeah. Guess I needed it."

He paused for a second, then exhaled.

"I made my choice during the selection day," he said. "I’m going to Astralis."

No one looked surprised.

Isabella stepped in from the west corridor, pulling on a glove. "About time."

Lilith gave a slow nod. "We knew."

Seraphina added, "The evaluation board tried to contact you three times after the final offers came in. I rerouted them."

"Thanks."

Liliana started walking down the steps. "Any reason in particular?"

Ethan shrugged. "A few. But mostly... it just feels right." freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

Lilith stood up, stretching slightly. "Then it’s done."

Ethan tilted his head. "That’s it?"

She stepped closer, lifting one hand to cup his cheek. "You’ve already earned your rest."

He let out a small breath. "Feels like something big just ended."

"It did," she said softly.

Then she turned to the others.

"For the next few days before the college starts, it is just relaxation time and family ’bonding’ time."

Isabella raised her hand lazily. "Canceling my plans."

Seraphina nodded once. "Fine. I could use the break."

Liliana didn’t argue.

Ethan blinked. "You’re all being serious?"

Lilith smiled. "The world can wait."

And for once, Ethan didn’t argue either.

Because deep down... it really could.
